FBI Investigating Companies at Heart of Meltdown

The Associated Press is reporting:

WASHINGTON: The FBI is investigating four major U.S. financial institutions whose collapse helped trigger a $700 billion bailout plan by the Bush administration, The Associated Press has learned.

Two law enforcement officials said Tuesday the FBI is looking at potential fraud by mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and insurer American International Group Inc. Additionally, a senior law enforcement official said Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. also is under investigation.

The inquiries will focus on the financial institutions and the individuals that ran them, the senior law enforcement official said.

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

is there a way to use this, though?

Are there any laws/regs which require the FBI to take testimony from someone? Could we use this to get something "onto the record"?

It's a witch hunt for some scapegoats

Yay, if the FBI finds some "crooks" we get to throw them out and then pretend that they were the problem and not the Federal Reserve. These statist/socialists are real clever in putting the blame elsewhere. The most amazing thing they ever did was to create the Fed, then cause the depression and blame it on Capitalism, then create New Deal programs that prolonged the depression to over a decade and started the worst war the world had ever seen, then fool everyone into thinking their New Deal programs were a success. I mean, if they could pull that off it should be easy to make people think the Fed isn't responsible for this mess.

Oh, there just going through the typical government motions

On the one hand, the government (FBI) is investigating these shady financial institutions for fraud, and on the other hand, they're bailing them out with billions.............this is what you call the height of hypocracy! But hey, we're about used to it by now. Don't look for anything too earth shattering to come out of the FBI investigation.

Wasn't it the FBI that refused to

listen to many of their agents that had vital info of "terrorists" operating in the U.S. before 9/11?
I just can't seem to muster up any confidence in this "investigation".

Stalin once said

"The dictator of the future will rule with a dictionary." or words to that effect. So when it is said the FBI will "investigate" they really mean something else. So let's see what may be meant:

What did we, the tax payers, get when they "investigated"

Randy Weaver?
David Koresh?
Oklahoma City bombing?
Mena, Arkansas?
fraud of the FED?
fraud of the IRS?
WTC?
death of MLK?
JFK assassination?
the Israeli art students?

By their fruits you will know them....

About time

Where were they years ago, and by the way they better start at the top. That is where the worst criminals are.

How about this theory....

Congress was threatened by Paulson that if they DID NOT sign his bill they would bankrupt all the banks and the people would blame CONGRESS.

BUT, the huge majority of their voters are telling them that if the DO vote for this they will vote them out of office in 5 weeks.

So, if they DONT vote for this bill, (knowing the economic havoc that the Fed and the Treasury are going to cause..... and how angry the hungry people will be)... they need more "cover".

SO, one of them LEAKS the fact that these guys are under FBI investigation. THIS gives them their excuse to NOT vote for the bill, and make it "not their fault" ..... AND, when the economic catastrophe's hit, that is "not their fault" because CLEARLY it is the fault of the crooks that are being investigated by the FBI. (This is the scenario I am hoping for)

... ... ... ... ... ...
"Not armies, not nations, have advanced the race; but here and there, in the course of ages, an individual has stood up and cast his shadow over the world."

Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. Ayn Rand (1905 - 1982), Atlas Shrugged

I thought about that for a plot as well.

But it didn't make too much sense. For starters, there's too much vertical pressure from the emperor and the royal banks. They're demanding that congress make the decision they've been told to. So I don't see the debates on this lasting beyond the next week. I honestly believe that the script reads like this:

- Congress & the Senate will debate a bit, mostly for show. There'll be some genuine concern for the American people from certain inconsequential (to the elite, anyway) Congressmen/Congresswomen & Senators, but they'll predictably lack the numbers to keep the bailout from passing.

- The 'Investigations' will reveal wrongdoing, including several 'key' executives at certain private institutions. No FRB insiders will be touched, nor will any of the true power elite in govt. As a plot twist, there may be a sacrificial lamb or two from govt. offered up for prosecution. It'll most likely be someone in the Senate, but possibly a Congressman/woman as well. This/these politicians will have accepted enough to outrage the public when revealed, but their true power in their public service was nothing more than a pawn role.

- The public will pay for it all, begrudgingly. There'll be cursory media mock outrage, speeches will be given decrying the the vote, all while pointing to the 'necessity' of it.

- The public will vote the same assholes back into office, in droves. For those close races for the truly influential and powerful seats, it'll be Diebold to the rescue for the ruling class.

What do you think? Could we make it a mini-series? I don't think it'd be a problem selling it, cause most of America will buy it, I'm sure of it.

I did say that there'd be the necessary public 'sacrifices'

What, the Fucking Bureau of Idiots is involved now? Wow... I guess dem bankers will be runnin all a'scared now! Gee willerkers!

The FBI is full of obedient lapdogs who will do as they are told by their masters when/if they happen to stumble upon any evidence which would prove the guilt of anyone in the gang of 535 on the hill or the people who finance them.

Otherwise, there will be 'sacrifices' of inconsequential greedy bastards who thought they were insiders and those who agree to go to a federal country club for a while 'for the cause'.

Shall I write the script for the upcoming drama to be revealed on the nightly news?

Fox guarding hens

It sounds like a case of the fox guarding the henhouse. When some hens come up missing, the fox tells the farmer that he is conducting an investigation.

Headline: Chickens File Complaint

Foxes agree to conduct investigation. Details at 11:00.

funny

Yours in funnier!

you'd think a real FBI investigation

would not be "learned" by the Associated Press from law enforcement officials. More govt planted news swallowed whole. It does look good to the citizens to read this for propaganda purposes, and thats the reason for the "investigation". Your tax dollars at work getting the evildoers!

Better title?

FBI privately vows to protect those at the Heart of Wall Street
Patsies-R-Us

A great way to start the day

LOL

Unfortunately

This is like the case of choosing between two evils (I have a family member, whom I admire as a person, in the FBI). If they take down bankers and investers then they should also take down those in the Legislature, Senate and Executive Branch (retired or not) that passed legislation in support of said people and their lobbiest. Down with lobbiest and PAC money.

Yeah, if

they are convicted they'll just be pardoned by the next president. Just like Bush pardoned Scooter, but refused to pardon Ramos and Compean the two border agents.

Where else, but in America does the government want to throw money at alleged crooks who are under investigation? Why not, it's not their money?

What's it going to take to wake up America.? Do all the people have to be living in cardboard boxes and standing in line for a crust of bread and a bowl of watered down soup? Will America wake up then? Or will they still think whatever party they support walks on water? I certainly hope not.

simply

get indicted and fake your own death.

I know the outcome of this one..........

the same as the other investigations end up, going to court because the administration will sue to stop.

Let the Banks deal wih it!

If these very bankers were to decide your fate, they would outsource your job, sell off your company to foreign invesors, and deny you unemployment insurance without so much as a second thought.

Then when you were homeless and sleeping on the street, they would drive over you and sue for any damage to their vehicles.

Let them sell their worthless assets to India, Korea and China, that's what they would do to you in a New York minute!

Ah well doesn't it just boil

Ah well doesn't it just boil down to the Fed? Someone is going to insist on not taking the fall...and eventually it will have to be the Fed. They are responsible.

Paulson tried to write amnesty into his bail out my buddies bill

Paulson tried to write amnesty into his "bail out my buddies" bill.

Now its pretty clear why.

This whole thing (bail out) could just be about saving his hide.

ZZZzzzzzz...

This investigation is designed to give the appearance of a sound justice system and puts people to sleep because they think the government is working for them.

Just like Congress pretending to reject the bailout plan. We know it is going to go through with some minor changes. Some of them might even be worse after they get through with it. I expect a bad day real soon in the markets so that Congress can justify pushing this through. Heck, most people will be screaming for them to do something. "My 401k is sinking, pass a law, regulate or print some money quick"

The appearance of a sound justice system

My first thoughts excactly, revolutionready!
But will people be fooled, after all the brouha about the very strange secrecy, surrounding the bailout money?

The bailout plan proposed by the Bush administration would give the Treasury Department and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson - a former Wall Street CEO himself - the power to buy up extremely risky mortgages and other dangerous debt using taxpayer dollars. Because the US government continues to run a deficit, under the plan, the Treasury would have to borrow money to buy this private sector debt - essentially using the taxpayer's credit card to buy home loans that are currently weighing down Wall Street firms.

Members of Congress point to a severe lack of oversight in the proposed Bush administration plan. Section eight of the draft bailout plan states: "Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency," essentially stripping Congress of its responsibility to oversee the how these tax dollars could be spent.

Fooled - no, apathetic- yes

When talking to many people trying to wake them up, I find that a lot of them agree or know what I am saying about government corruption. However they still don't want to do anything about it. Many of them say "what can I do about it?" Even after I tell them some steps they can take, they come up with another excuse. Most people are going to have to feel the "pain" before they take action. Unfortunately it may be too late by then.

I 2nd that! FBI, CIA,

actually.
