Like today, the arrogant Senate tried to pass a bill (amnesty), against the will of the American people. (This would have ultimately cost Americans trillions of dollars.) Like today, their bill was supposed to be a done deal.

On June 28, 2007, myself and another dozen activists met with Barbara Boxer's L.A. Office staff, in what we called the Boxer sit-in. For several hours we voiced our concern on how this issue was personally affecting each and every one in our community.

In massive numbers across the country others unprecedentally called, faxed and ranted...and killed the bill! We can do it again.

SENATE AMNESTY BILL IS DEAD

DING DONG THE BILL IS DEAD! In a resounding defeat that saw as many as 15 Senators reversing their vote the Senate Amnesty Bill went down in defeat on the Senate floor in another cloture vote designed to advance the bill to the Senate floor for final passage.

In a 46 - 53 vote Senators voted to limit debate on the bill which by Senate rules kills the bill since a vote of 60 was needed to advance the bill to the Senate floor. The Senate server and phone lines were crashed yesterday and this morning in anticipation of the vote.

The American people have made it loud and clear that amnesty is not the answer. They have also in a nearly unified voice told Washington to close the borders first then fix the problem of illegals already in the country. You have to stop the flood before you can fix the results of the flooding.

This is not only a defeat for Senate Democrats and Republicans who have supported the bill like John McCain and Lindsay Graham but also a defeat for the President who put the weight of the Presidency behind this bill and has been lobbying Senators heavily over the past two weeks.

Senate rules will not allow the bill to be brought back to life in this session of Congress and with next year being an election year Immigration is not likely to return to Congress for at least two years.

Though the bill is dead Congress and the President do have the Constitutional authority to do what the American people are demanding. CLOSE THE BORDERS AND ENFORCE CURRENT LAWS NOW.

Additionally the bill which passed last fall that appropriated funding to build 700 miles of border fence has yet to be completed. To date only two miles have been erected leaving a whopping 698 miles left to build.

Our voice has been heard and now we have another opportunity to make the will of the people known in Washington. Continue the pressure. Crash phone lines and servers expressing the closing of the borders and building the fence. We have prevailed once and can again. Again I quote Winston Churchill, "Never give up, never give in!"

i sent about 15 faxes today and quoted andrew jackson. I told them they have no authority to do this action and called them if they vote for it terrorism. I also quote the constitution and reminded them of thier oath of office. I also faxed all week all kinds of different letters.
What really makes me mad is how obvious the media is, they have been talking like its already been passed and selling it to us. We need people to go to prison over this.

We can't stop just because it's the weekend or we'll surely lose.

to be attempting to divert the effect of many of the calls, emails and faxes that they've received regarding the bailout issue. They respond with something that says that they don't agree with the "original" Paulson/Bernanke proposal or that they don't agree with the notion of "no oversight" or "giving" money to Wall Street without "protection" for the taxpayers, etc. Whenever I've called or emailed, I've tried to convey to them that I am completely against *any* bailout/rescue/insurance plan for Wall Street, regardless of the clothing that they or anyone else is trying to put on this or that proposal. The responses I've read, for the most part, seem to be covered with way too much ambiguity (not unexpected or unusual of course) in order to draw any kind of positive conclusions from them. Without wishing to take on an attitude of paranoia, I remain convinced that most of them are trying to transmit false signals of "concern" to citizens while, at the same time, attempting to put enough underarm deodorant on some legislative nightmare in order to give the final poison they produce a more acceptable smell. I wonder if others here have gathered the same impression.

Thank you for expressing your concerns with the problems in the financial sector and proposals to address them.

A lot of Ohioans, including me, are angry at the thought of bailing out people who made a lot of money making bad business decisions that created problems in neighborhoods across Ohio.
I agree that we need to avoid rewarding excessive risk taking. These institutions made unwise decisions, and taxpayers should not be expected to simply cover their losses.

Treasury Secretary Paulson this weekend sent a proposal to Congress that would give him almost unfettered authority to spend $700 billion purchasing troubled assets from financial institutions. On Tuesday, my colleagues on the Banking Committee and I held a hearing at which Secretary Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke, and others testified.

They made a strong case for the need to act quickly to prevent further damage to our economy. The turmoil in the credit markets has the potential to do great damage to a lot of innocent bystanders. I am afraid that if we do not act, the economic instability could affect thousands of American jobs and the savings of countless middle class families.

But Secretary Paulson’s proposal is not the right answer. No Secretary should be given a $700 billion blank check. Taxpayers must be given an opportunity to recover their money, and assurances their tax dollars will not fund lavish pay and golden parachutes. We need strong rules to guard against abuse, and to ensure all types of institutions and regions are helped.

In the days ahead, we need to focus on containing the damage to middle class families and local businesses as much as possible. In the months ahead, we need to take a hard look at how financial markets are regulated so we never find ourselves in this situation again.

We know that the MSM may try to influence people and distort the numbers of who is for or against the bailout. What if we somehow spread around that all people who are against the bailout, put an American Flag on their front door, or tie a yellow ribbon on a tree or something like that. This way, no matter what the news reports, people will see that they all agree, no bailout!
