If you go back through some of the articles about Spitzer you'll find the op-ed piece he wrote about AIG. He could of brought this all out into the open way before Bear Stearns started to crater. That's why I believe he was brought down.
Another thing to consider is that the government itself knows things we don't. It's actions are always mired in weird contortions that never seem to make sense until long after the fact. Could it possibly be that the crisis serves more than one purpose (changing power, money supply etc.)?
I'm leaning toward the idea the we could be seeing this slowdown to help postpone the loss of oil. This only works IF "peak oil" theories are correct. I'm not fully sold on those ideas .... yet. Mike Ruppert gave a good case for so called peak oil also being the impetus that gave way to 9-11.
Interesting to consider nonetheless.

The question you need to ask yourself is, WHY wasn't this a problem before? answer: we've never had interest rates so low and credit requirements so lax thanks to the Fed.

Don't think that I am discrediting the idea that this crisis was manufactured. However, I have not seen any clear evidence. This situation reminds me of a scenario where we knew that people would benefit from a big terrorist attack like 9/11, yet we knew with reasonable certainty that the attack was executed by terrorists from Iraq. We see the fruits of the crash as something the powers that be have lusted after for a long time, yet we know with reasonable certainty that the methods used to create this crash have a lot of backing in legitimate non-malicious economic theory(wrong as it may be).

If you study you will find that a fraction of the "sub prime market" failed. The total sub prime market is a fraction of the mortgage market.
Telling me that three of the largest investment banks in the world went illiquid because a fraction of a fraction of ONE investment market coughed up a fur ball is affirmation that the crisis was engineered.

Maybe this crisis was artificially rushed, but I do believe that it was unavoidable.
The central bankers know that their FIAT currencies were one day sure to implode so I think they used the Bush/Cheney presidency to accomplish their "one world government" agenda.
I have a feeling we are witnessing their final part of their "plan", but I also think that they're losing control of it.
Their plan to unify the world's banking system is extremely difficult and in my opinion practically impossible. Billions of people worldwide are being affected by this, and I think many countries will back down from this push to unify the world's banking systems.
People around the world will soon start to demand commodity backed currencies... I also think that many central banks will be shut down around the world.
