"There are no necessary evils in government. The Treasury to you, gentlemen, is closed."

Here is a great speech by Thaddeus McCotter, Republican from Michigan. Let's all take a minute today to thank Mr. McCotter for his tremendous courage, and remind him that he is not alone in this fight. His website is: http://mccotter.house.gov...

Full transcript below:

by Thaddeus McCotter,
Michigan 12th District

Thank you. I rise today not to change anyone's mind but to express to my constituents my reasons for opposing this bill. There will always be time and pretext enough for people to compromise their principles and put forward poor public policy that may in the short run be popular but in the long run will be detrimental to the long-term interests of the American people. We learn this through history.

In the 1832 Bank Panic, Andrew Jackson had the question of whether he would remove the Bank of the United States' charter. The people in the bank did not like that. They threatened the prosperity of the American people and in the middle of the panic Andrew Jackson looked at these bankers and said: "There are no necessary evils in government. The treasury to you, gentlemen, is closed." This was an act of courage on the part of President Jackson because he understood what was at stake was not merely an ephemeral prosperity or a panic caused by the very people with their hand out. Andrew Jackson understood this was about majoritarian rule. It was about the faith in the people's representative institutions and those who inhabit the seats in which they are entrusted.

Today we are in a global financial bank panic. It is the first of our global economy. We are seeing a leveraged bailout of the United States Treasury. And in the end, these interests that want your money are threatening your prosperity. And the choice you face is this: You will lose, potentially, for prosperity for a short period of time, at the expense of your long-term Liberty. Once the federal government has got you to take that risk and pass it onto you as a quote-unquote moral hazard, they will be in the marketplace and as the free market is diminished your freedom itself is diminished. And as your Congress does not stand up to these and put forward a better plan that truly protects the taxpayers, and truly has the long-term interests of the United States at heart, you will be in jeopardy of losing both your prosperity and your Liberty.

The choice is stark and it was put forward in the book by Doestoevsky. In the Brothers Karamazov the Grand Inquisitor came to Jesus and he said, "If you wish to subject the people, give them miracle, mystery and authority; but above all give them bread." And it has always been the temptation in a crisis especially to sacrifice Liberty for short-term promises of prosperity. And it was no mistake during that during the 1917 Bolshevik revolution the slogan was "Peace, land, and bread." Today you are being asked to choose between bread and freedom. I suggest that the people on Main Street have said they prefer their freedom, and I am with them.

I yield back.

Where's He Been On The Fed All This Time?

Nice speech, but why was he not endorsing RP then, if he truly realizes the sinister nature of the Fed?

And yes, he needs to realize the war is the result of the desire to perpetually milk the taxpayer.

WJR Detroit radio interview

For those who are interested, Congressman Thaddeus McCotter was interviewed on WJR in Detroit on Monday, the mp3 can be downloaded here:

http://www.wjr.com/Articl...

He was interviewed again today, Oct. 1st, on the same show, I'll post that link when it becomes available.

Link to Oct. 1 interview on WJR

Here's the link I promised in my previous post for today's (Wednesday's) interview. Same channel, same show, same host, different day:

http://www.wjr.com/Articl...

Note: This is a different interview than the one I previously posted.

Excellent interview...

I like this guy... I like him a lot. He's smart, dislikes our monetary system over the last several decades, and mentions my personal favorite President (Andrew Jackson), what more could we ask for... :)

His war position will change over time. If he is right on 90%, I am willing to wait for him to come around on the last 10%. And contrary to popular opinion here, monetary policy is about 10 thousand times more important than Iraq. With correct monetary policy, Iraq and other things will fall into place.

I think he did great here, BUT...

he seems to have bought into Iraq

Great speech

McCotter knows some of the history of this long battle. The Banksters are bloodied. Can we put them on the ropes?

--------------------------
"I killed the banks"

I think

I have a new crush...

Hooooo

....Rahhh!

However, for some of the same folks - if they would have had a $700 Billion dollar bailout to continue occupying countries who's people all want us to leave, they would have been behind it 100%.

The great irony in that is that while the Necons look down their noses at us and tell us the Iraq situation is very complex and we don't understand, I disagree. I think it's pretty simple in some ways ...

For a thousand + years there have been basically three groups of people in the land now known as Iraq. For that thousand years the following has been true to this day ... The Shia hate the Sunnis. The Sunnis hate the Shia. They both hate the Kurds, and the Kurds hate both of them.

Ironically, our occupation has revised 1,000 years of history in that we, by our occupation, have gotten these three groups to finally agree on one thing ...

They all want us to leave.

My opinion of the congress is much higher after yesterday.

I've got to say, I didn't expect so many of them to do the right thing, in the face of pressure from their parties.

I think it's hilarious the way that the media are spinning this as "congress failed to pass the "rescue" bill". More like, congress succeeded beyond our wildest dreams at protecting the country from the biggest robbery ever attempted.

emailed and asked a favor

I looked over a couple of things on youtube concerning the gentleman from Michigan. I'm beginning to like him.

Wrote him an e-mail,thanked him, and asked him to cosponsor HR 2755, the Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act. Already called my empty suit of a congressman and asked him to cosponsor.

Now is the time - tora, tora, tora.

now that's the man I can allign myself with

Too bad there are so few brave men like this. What the hell is this stuff these two democrats on Lou Dobbs have been talking about? Why does everything communists (dem. is just a cute word for it) rave about have to sound so gibberish?

I rewatched and sent to all my friends with long lists

This should go to everyone we know. The wrong people are running for the seat of the Presidency.

Help Put An End To Financial Fabrication

Author: Jim Sinclair

Dear Friends,

Please stop being spectators and put an end to financial fabrication!

Get involved in the Wall Street Bailout Bill.

If this bill is passed financial institutions will be freed from fair accounting rules that require them to reveal the true market value of the value-less paper they hold. That would allow them to continue lying about their solvency.

You simply must not let that happen. It legislates financial fabrication!

This is the first time in my 67 years that legislators are listening to the public, so please tell them what you want on this bill, whether it be yes or no, but do not support lying as an economic tool.

Have we not already had ENOUGH of fabricated, spun, mistruths?

Vote No against a change in Fair Accounting Rules. Vote any way you wish on the rest of this meaningless exercise.

The following is a contact list of Republicans who voted for the Bailout. Contact them and voice your opinions!

Click here to view the contact list in PDF format...

My email to Congressman McCotter

"Thank you Congressman for being a Patriot.
Thank you for your courage in opposing the bailout bill.
Thank you that you understand the true nature of the issues at stake in this bill.
Thank you for standing for liberty and for the Republic.

I want liberty not bread. I want a truly free market system. I want sound money that cannot be subjugated to the control of those who would subjugate the citizenry of this Republic. This is a truly pivotal moment in our history.

Please stand with your fellow Congressman Ron Paul and support his efforts to audit the Federal Reserve. Ultimately, this unconstitutional, despotic and immoral institution should be abolished and dismantled. Please enlist in the fight to return us to sound and honest money.

Thank you Congressman McCotter."

Do you like the bailout plan?
And could you be its biggest fan?

I do not like the bail-out plan

Oh, in your whining stick a cork!
Won't you eat it with a fork?

I will not eat it with a fork.
I think this Bill is full of pork.

But do you not like Goldman Sacs?
And don't you think we know the facts?

I do not care for Goldman-Sachs
Those CEOs should get the axe.
We do not trust you know the facts
Your oversight was far too lax!

Don't you trust us with your dough?
If we don't do this we'll not grow.

You should not get taxpayer dough
To make your Ponzi project go!
Growth, you know, was getting low
It's time to reap what you did sow

Say!
The Whip!
The party Whip!
We should trust the party Whip!

You're losing votes at such a clip
I'd hate to be the party Whip.

Do you not hate the price of gas?
You want, you need this Bill to pass!

This bill won't drop the price of gas.
I do not want this bill to pass

It should be as such

This guy's great!

Another true patriot in Congress. How come someone like this votes Yes on some of the really bad bills? It doesn't make sens.

You ask how someone can

You ask how someone can speak like this and vote for bad bills?

Notice what he highlighted in his speech?

He said that the MAJORITY should rule. It's very subtle, but significant. In the US the majority decides, but the law (aka US Constitution) rules.

He seems to be a patriotic and well meaning person, but he's probably in a vulnerable seat being from Michigan, and thus populist politics is smart business.

Michiganites should continue to encourage him to continue to support liberty.

Yep

There's a Libertarian; John Tatar and a Green Candidate against him this year.

Called his office and said

Called his office and said good job, thank you, I support you.

McCotter calls for Paulson resignation!

Thaddeus McCotter

I am a newly elected precinct delegate from Michigan (not in Mr. McCotter's district), but I called his office today and told them when he's ready to run for President, I'm behind him. What an inspirational speech!

Applause

That got me to clapping!

I posted this last night

3 minutes of heaven in Michigan, oh well...

I posted this late yesterday afternoon also

and not one person said boo :( oh well....luckily someone finally noticed and I'm glad for that since I was terribly proud. I also sent Mr. McCotter an e-mail yesterday as I said on Wolfe's post; I am in his district and when I get a reply (he is very good about mailing letters) I will post it. I sent it out to everyone I know locally and I think it has really got around.

It's a great speech-here's to Michigan's 11th District!

Thank you, ladalang

Such things happen to many of us -- we post something and nobody notices, then someone else posts the very same thing and BAM! - tons of attention.

The good news is, the information gets out to us, whichever the vehicle. It's not about us and our own glory, it's about the r3volution. Sorry we missed your post, and keep putting up pertinent information!! :)

I posted his other speech.

Would be nice to have it added.

No Bailout!

My congressman sent me a reply saying they needed to pass the bill so that no more Washington Mutual would happen, and to that I responded.

“Sir, as far as Washington mutual being the U.S biggest bank failure, I could care less I’m a current customer of Washington mutual and I still say No bailout! No bailout! No bailout! As far as trying to minimize taxpayer exposures, passing any measures dose not minimize them, it will only prolong the inevitable, if you would consult the experts they would tell you that passing any bill would be a waste of time in fact, I would suggest taking a few lesson from one of you’re fellow congressman that being Ron Paul, he could teach you a few things.

p.s. “being stupid is not the same as acting stupid” witch one are you.”

Good for you. That was great.

p.s. “being stupid is not the same as acting stupid” witch one are you.”

Wow.... that was good. Gut check right in the gut. Good for you. Tell folks you know to keep that pressure on them.

which...

not witch....

though i liked witch better! :)

We need a few more patriots

We need a few more patriots to speak words like those in Congress.

Liberty or Death

Thank you

Just, thank you.

Probably the best speech

Probably the best speech I've heard while watching C-SPAN for the last few days. I am writing him now to let him know he is a true patriot in this fight.

Stock up, it's gonna be a long winter.

Good speech

Now, if he wasn't so pro-war....

Another great speech.

There is still hope for the united States.

Freedom brings People together

Pres. Jackson explains

“It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes. Distinctions is society will always exists under every just government. Equity of talents, of education or of wealth cannot be produced by human institutions. In the full enjoyment of the gifts of Heaven and the fruits of superior industry, economy and virtue, every man is equally entitled to protection by the law; but when the laws undertake to add to these natural and just advantages artificial distinctions, to grant titles, gratuities, and exclusive privileges, to make the rich richer and the potent more powerful, the humble members of society--the farmers, mechanics and laborers--who have neither the time nor the means of securing like favors to themselves, have a right to complain of the injustice of their Government. There are no necessary evils in government. Its evils exist only in its abuses. If it would confine itself to equal protection, and as Heaven does its rains, shower its favors alike on the high and the low, the rich and the poor, it would be an unqualified blessing. In the act before me there seems to be a wide and unnecessary departure from these just principals.”
