Friday Night at the Truck Stop

I was talking with a friend of mine tonight when some things clicked for the two of us. We are constantly trying to come up with ways of getting information to *groups* of people in the form of dvds such as Fiat Empire, Freedom to Fascism, etc… Well it dawned on us that a possible place would be truck stops. There is a large truck stop in every major city in the U.S. and a lot of smaller towns as well.
Every single night in the major cities there is a new *group* of truckers just "passin' through" and most of them have TV's and dvd players in their trucks already. Most of them have probably already seen the dvds they brought with them and probably wouldn't mind getting a FREE dvd (or six lol) to watch on this trip to where-ever they're headed.
My understanding from a discussion with another friend with over 18 years of marketing is that it is through truck stops that "fads" are born. Let's use marketing 101 here and apply a new "fad" of learning about our country. There are so many good dvds already and most of us have them at home ready to burn. This could be implemented rather quickly if people in other cities think that this is a valid idea.
I do think it is a valid idea and will begin this Friday in Fort Worth, Texas (yep that's right… Cowtown) by giving out free copies of Fiat Empire. I'm going to give a new movie each week until I'm tazed or the truckers just tell me to stop giving them free movies.
I just wanted to share it here at my favorite RP site and see if anyone else thinks this is a valid idea or if I'm a kook. Not to worry though, I'll pass them out even if everyone calls me a kook. ;-)

I've got a stack of blank DVDs (collecting dust) and a burner in my laptop ... I think I'll do something with this. Great idea!
What about also leaving DVDs at gas pumps? I think I'll try leaving a few at my next fill-up. Hopefully people will also feel compelled to share alike.

If you are providing the DVDs in paper sleeves, try writing or printing something like this on each sleeve:
"If you find this information to be important and informative, please consider donating some money to the producers of the film. Their information can be found in the credits or by searching the internet for the name of the film. Don't forget to pass this movie on to someone else too. Thank you!"
Perhaps a custom made rubber stamp would be the easiest way to do it.

I live up by the Pilot in Roanoke off 35. I will try and get some of my friends one night and try it. Which movie is best to burn? I have a stack of Freedom to Fascisms I bought and been handing out at church.

That would be fantastic if you could get it going on I-35. We are on I-20 and that would cover two MAJOR highways in Texas.
As far as which is best to burn? We have been giving out: Fiat Empire, Freedom to Fascism, Overview of America, and Washington, You're Fired!
A meetup member loaned me his dvd replicator and it's bad. So, I mass produce them and then the meetup members help put stickers on them and put them in sleeves, so everyone is a part of this effort.
I truly hope you will get this going on I-35. I'm sure that like us, you will find that the truckers are very easy going and very receptive to the information.
Latest Update
Last Friday, we gave out 156 movies to truckers. The truckers apparently know WAY more than I had assumed and were very nice and willing to take the information.
The security guard at the truck stop had been given a movie from us the Friday prior and he came up and shook my hand and said he had NO IDEA that things were this way. He had watched Fiat Empire and was giving it to his family to watch.
I gave him the others to watch as well. I'm hoping others will take up this initiative as well. I just wish there was more than one major truck stop near my home, because this is really fun talking with the truckers.

I love it! I truly believe many eyes will be open....and that the beauty of this is that these truckers will share this info to the average person in a way that will be easy to understand.
That has always been a problem with Dr. Paul....he is just so smart and forgets to use simple language to communicate complicated terms.

Trucking firms that are independent could feasibly paint their trailers any way that they wish. Could money be a way of buying mobile billboards? An agreement from a firm to do so would put me on the yes list of donors if a money bomb of sorts was used to fund it. First you need a heck of a salesperson and a message that was common. Not paying taxes to a government that can print as much as it needs, even against the outspoken wishes of it's own populous, is a good start. Albeit a bit forward at this point. A statement of understanding by the truckers themselves, combined with the obviousness of necessity for truckers and their shipments. Primarily food, medical supplies, and materials to make shelter, should make it clear that lifeblood of this country is boiling, and someone is about to get burned.

Well,
Last Friday night was excellent. Just two of us were able to get out 68 copies of Fiat Empire in just two hours.
We also have set an appointment to talk with the Manager of the truck stop to try and get *our* DVDs into their rental library.
The truckers were MOST receptive to the DVDs after a brief mentioning of the billion dollar bailout.
This is much easier than I thought, and I want to thank everyone for the positive feedback and great ideas to take this truck stop initiative to the next level. I appreciate it.

The manager of this rather large truck stop has taken this week off! Go figure... Anyway, I'll be talking with her asap.
Most truck stops...
Have entire sections dedicated to DVD's and audio books. Prices are outrageous and there are only so many times you can listen to Outlanders or Deathlands... :)
They also have rental sections setup where the movies can be returned at any truck stop along their route.
This is an excellent idea. Maybe see if you can talk the truck stop into stocking the DVD's for you so that you don't have to pass them out and set it up as a "Free" rental, so that they return it when they are done to whatever truck stop that they are at.
This would save in cost since many of these movies cost money to legally distribute.
The trucker version of the Gideon Bible... Put one in every stop... :)
Start up a trucker library, containing all the various movies in the movement. Excellent idea. I hope it takes off!

That is a MOST excellent idea!!! I will be going early this Friday to try and catch the manager before the night shit takes over and see about starting the "Freedom Library" hahaha.

I was just commenting on it. Keep us updated as to the progress because this could really mean some good things for us, and this is a cause I would absolutely donate to. For instance, if you come back and let us know that you have an agreement with the truck stop, I would be willing to purchase a small bulk order of The Money Masters and send them to you for inclusion in the library.
Leaving a phone number and short description of the project with each CD/DVD would allow a trucker to maybe drop them off at new truck stops and they might sign up and come on board. There are so many things that you can do with this, and I think it is one of the best ideas I have heard in a long time.

I have been doing this since last fall
and not one driver ever refused! I useally open with" So do you like the irs?" Of course they say H@@L NO! Then I slip them F2F,a Ron Paul dvd and whatever I might have. In parting I tell them to spread the message and they say they will. Only be prepared to talk sometimes, some of them like to talk.

Another thing my wife and I do is when we eat out before we order we go into the rest rooms and leave some dvds by the sinks etc. When we are done eating we go back and grab any if at all that are still there.

I work late and I pass 2 truckstops on the way home. I think this is something I will work on too! Have to wait til payday to get some dvd's to record, but then I will be doing this too! Thank you for the idea!

Truckers also chat extensively by CB during their long drives and I know they arrange meetups at truckstops with other truckers. I expect your DVDs will change hands extensively from trucker to trucker. CB radio being essentially an RF partyline means many truckers overhear the discussions of a few. Also, I know that a large percentage of truckers listen to Coast to Coast AM so most should be open to hearing information that many would dismiss out of hand because it is not "mainstream".
Really a Great Idea! Please report back on how it is going, perhaps C4L may want to make it a coordinated and ongoing effort.
