Can't get a car loan without the bailout?
Submitted by TheRaguu on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 14:29
How about as a country we try to live within our means? I'm sorry, the excess in this country is becoming sickening. I work for a local college and do contract programming on the side. I'm far from wealthy but make a 'decent' living. Here's my breakdown:
1. 95 Caddy - $1200 (paid in cash)
2. 0 credit cards
3. No house yet (about to buy property in cash in South America)
So yeah, I'm not living the 'pimping' MTV lifestyle.. but it's paid for. Why should I have to shoulder the responsibility of this bailout when I was responsible with my money?
I've been traveling through South America for 2 months... so maybe my perspective has changed a bit. I saw families that had much less than the average American.. get this, happy.
Sorry, I went off on a few tangents there.. I'm just so frustrated right now.

Don't use credit, since it equals slavery.
I saved my money from working until I got married then we bought a house, a small house, no mortgage. Don't use credit cards. It is so nice to get the mail and not have to open a bill.
Seems to me that if we want to take power away from the elite who benefit from the Federal government, then people need to stop holding and investing in T-bills and put wealth in their own bank. An investment in T-bills empowers the elitists controlling the Federal government. Remember T-bills are just paper, just like FRNs. Withdrawling our investment is their biggest fear. Holding onto T-bills locks up dollars as they say. I suggest investing in something other than T-bills such as your local economy, food, supplies, silver and gold. These items stimulate our economy and the individual is empowered. But, what the hell do I know?

Nope, you're spot-on.
I've never owned a new car. We carry no credit card debt. Our only real debt is our home, which is substantial since I live in NJ.
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Credit Card Offers
If there is a so-called credit crisis because the bailout is not getting through, how come I'm still getting 4 Credit Card offers a day in my mailbox?

Not really a tangent
People in this country would be amazed to see a poor person who is happy. Like a Jamaican living on a beautiful coast in a tin roofed shanty with enough food, water, and fuel to get by. I am pretty sure they have some special herbs and spices to keep their spirits up too.
I think us at the DP will grind our way through the depression better than most.
And you know this smells bad. Of course they are aiming at something altogether sinister like the Dr. says. They have a printing Press!! and they want more money directly from us? The printing press is failing? They are desperate!!
This is why their talking points don't make sense.
I agree with you. They must be lying about this because all of the reasons they give why we should bail out, do not really work. People don't need to get car loans or student loans. They are not drop dead issues. They are not saying what the real issue is. When alternates are proposed, that would address the illiquid assets, that do not involve the govt. purchasing them they are brushed aside. That means they are aiming at something else but trying to sell it to us with these silly arguments.
It smells real bad.
Just venting a bit,
Thanks.

Pivotal moment
For the citizens.
The "debt based economy" is now front and center, and thousands of people are calling the Senate.
People will drive used cars, college tuition will come down, as colleges won't have any students, Hi-Def TV's will have to be sold in China,
But the dollar might survive.
Ever think the banks are withholding credit to force our hand?
Doen't it sound strange
they won't loan money, Isn't that the way banks make money? If they don't loan their profits go way down?
I hear ya...
about living within our means. A person can pick up nice vehicles at car auctions at a good price. Sometimes I see beautiful trucks and cars come through and the buyers get them at a steal. You just have to know what you're buying (or take someone with you who does). It has got to be better than the so-called deals a person gets at some car lots (new or used), after financing, etc.
I agree, that sometimes we have to witness others having it harder than us to realize how good we really have it. People have become very dependent upon credit and we don't have to have a discussion on the amount of debt it has left so many in.
Live within our means... a very reasonable concept.
Exactly
These politicians who say we are doing it for the college kids are morons. I have paid for my school and work full time without having to take out a loan. I lived responsibly within my means and now I am suppose to support a measure that is a lie?!
We are looked at as the
We are looked at as the enemy my friend. If you're not a good little consumer, how could we possibly prop up this failed system?
I know people that drive around in these 40k trucks complaining they don't have any money at the end of the month. Look, you're free to make your own choices... but don't expect me to pay for you. Try living within your means. Same things goes for housing and anything other credit entity.
