Vice Presidential Debate Open Thread

CNBC is calling it the most anticipated Vice Presidential debate ever. Talk about sensationalism! Anyway, I'm going to be in class tonight so I won't be able to watch it, which is well enough by me.

If you don't have a TV, congratulations! I'm sure you'll be able to catch it live on CSPAN, or even the NY Times website.

Let me know what I missed out on.

I'm thinking

that Palin held her own with the "old Washington big boys".

She did memorize, and not staying on topic is what they did time and again in all the other debates. So what?

She was brought into this mix and I believe she could be a saving grace - just say'n. Going along to get along - we see it all the time.

She doesn't have an evil heart and that truth will eventually become clear.

Remember, the Lord works in mysterious ways. We were due for a "big" one!

Open Revolt totally nailed it

as far as I saw it also. I hadn't planned on watching the BS Fest anyway, but having the flu, unable to sit long periods in front of the pc, so I got stuck watching. Let's not forget "the most dangerous VP we've ever had."

Why has Palin

been talking to Henry Kissenger? Did she speak with all the other former Secretaries of State?

Expectations for Palin were

Expectations for Palin were so low, that the mere fact that she didn't pass out and crack her head on the podium would be enough for her performance to be spun as a "win."

She was far better prepped this time- she memorized talking points and spewed them out (often reciting talking points that had nothing to do with the question asked).

Biden didn't dare question her for fear of looking like a bully, and the moderator didn't force her to stay on topic, so Palin was never challenged.

Biden is normally dull, but he was even worse at this debate- I'm pretty sure they told him to NOT attack her, so he just seemed to be going through the motions.

So we had a dull old political hack (Biden) vs. a candidate who was just spewing random talking points.

All in all, a complete waste of my time...

Watching the re-air

This is painful. Especially for Palin. Simply lost and out of her league.

Only watched a little of it

as a segment of the German news here in Australia and saw that Joe Biden put the blame squarely on Repubs alone for this economic disaster called the housing bubble. He must have forgotten how the Democrats went into it well aware that they were covering up a disaster in the making

Biden totally nailed this debate, but the talking heads are

saying otherwise.

Probably to keep up the illusion going of a close race.

The reality is that Palin needed a knockout punch and to use some leverage to distance herself from Bush, McCain, and big government/business in general.

Instead she came off like the CEO of Exxon at a board meeting with a couple of cheesy rants about she wasn't that bad.

Here's a quick list of her mistakes:

- She defended the Bush admin. about 10 times (even McCain criticized them).

- She copied McCain verbatim with several stances ie, Iran said Israel was a stinking corpse, we can't let the holocaust happen again, we're going to cut taxes to grow the economy, etc.

- She regurgitated her 'outsider/hockey mom' BS about how she is this reformer, but yet we see her going along with the typical Bush Doctrine/Pro War and Global Warming BS.

- Her answer to the energy crisis was 'Drill, Baby, Drill' along with the 'we need all that alternative stuff'. She even let Biden talk about clean coal instead of mentioning it first. She also believes in capping carbon. NEWFLASH: You can't cap carbon and use oil to get out of the crisis.

- No mention of rebuilding and expanding the existing industrial base to counter our trade deficit.

- She supports the bailout and did not tie it to big business or even how it supposedly is going to help us. She didn't nail the democrats or the Bush Admin. for the present economic conditions.

- She didn't go after Obama other than the same way Sean Hannity rants about his anti-war bullshit. NEWSFLASH: Americans want out of the war. It was almost like Sean Hannity was her speech writer. She should have nailed Obama and the democrats for the economic mess and proposed some solution, (IE prosecuting and jailing the criminals in the government and Wall Street).

- And lastly, she spent the entire time defending McCain, which was just pathetic. She should have just said something like, "I'm not McCain and I'm not a senator who's been around for 30 years. McCain already had his debate and he was perfectly able to defend himself. I am a Governor and my focus is on helping and giving back to the people and that's exactly what I will do as Vice President." And then go on with example A, B, C etc.

biden came out as being more

biden came out as being more "vice presidentiable" although palin did better than what was expected.

still, it's the top of the ticket that matters and with the recent financial mess, democrats obama and biden will surely win the elections.

having said that, i think we will see more of sarah palin in years to come. perhaps even as the republican's woman on top instead of number 2 in the 2012 election versus president obama.

it will be very interesting to see "the celebrity" [future president obama] versus "the beauty queen" [future first woman president of the united states of america].

peace!

Why couldn't these two nuckleheads just answer the questions?

All they kept doing is going back to Oboma, and McNuggets, why couldn't they just give us their point of view, or thoughts? It's probably because they don't have any of their own.

failin...

palin did not answer one question...

she wants to expand the roll of the veep...

she is embarrassing...

Eastern Oregon is Ron Paul Country!

Palin is barely qualified to

Palin is barely qualified to be mayor of Wasilla. God help us if this woman gets into office and starts acting like Dick Cheney.

Demopublican

To be quite honest, Sarah Palin performed much better than expected. Especially after her recent debacles of interviews on the MSM networks. At one point during the debate I began to wonder which candidate was the Democrat and which one was the Republican. For a minute there I thought they had switched there R and D pins. It was quite obvious that they have a similar agenda after they agreed on so many things. There agreement on Israel made me want to puke. I also thought perhaps they were running for office in Israel since they fucking like Israel's government so much.

Sad...

At least they mentioned the Constitution this round. McBama didnt mention it once in their debate.

Folks here can hate on me all they want.. If I could only vote for 1 of the 4, Id vote for Palin. I dont agree with her on a slew of issues but Id prefer someone conservative from Alaska over lifelong politicians with a history of stealing our rights and taking our money to give to fucked up people around the world. She isnt perfect, but I like her.

She could end up in our corner. 'One heartbeat away..'

Our movement is going to continue to grow and that gives me comfort. Dont get it twisted.. Baldwin is still getting my vote and Im voting against every incumbent on my ticket.

Ron Paul for President 2009

Palin was chosen because she makes McCain look smart.

I have serious doubts about the Presidential and Vice Presidential from both parties. Could we have found worse candidates? Well, I guess Huckabee and Giuliani would be worse choices.

Darned tootin'

I look forward to an increased use of phrases like "your darned tootin" by the American public, but I'm concerned that her sex appeal will add to the problem of over-population.

Don't worry

it seems to only affect half of the people.

I wasn't aware SNL moved on a primetime Thursday slot!

Tina Fey looked good..but gotta give credit to the Biden look alike make-up job!

Kudos though really goes to the make-up artist...he even got the balding spot right!!

I just got back home.

Who won? The Drudge Poll says Palin, coincidentally, almost by the same margin as last night's Senate vote - 73 - 25!

Please become a fan: www.facebook.com/dailypaul

Been home all night.

Been at the computer, too. Didn't watch. Seriously, I mean...why bother?

But if F.U. Frank said it went one way, I feel confident it actually went just the opposite.

I spent my time finding and researching several sources of UHT milk (thanks, alaskaron!), which was a much better expenditure of my energies.

Palin

Fox News said 86% Palin 12% Biden ( 1 million votes cast they say)
Palin won hands down. Biden said national health care and Palin responded with what's going on in Washington now do you really think the people want the government running health care?

According to Frank Luntz's "focus group"...

I'd guess most people just watch the major networks

if i may give an answer

to the rhetorical question earlier as to ms. palin has been reading DP.

perhaps not, but you better believe her handlers have.

this is a public forum, and there are lurkers everywhere.

don't forget that.

she just forcefed the american public RP talking points

genetically modified of course

p.s. to the lurkers in the weeds --
nice try but too little, too late friends.
pandora's box has been already opened
she's the woman running the show now.

I missed the majority of her

I missed the majority of her spiel... what did she focus on?

But it really doesn't matter anyway, because the GOP supports nothing but bullshit

O'Reilly

Can't believe that O'Reilly just creamed Barney Frank on the "fixed news factor". I don't care much for either one but, it's good to see that they are at each other.

I guess no one cornered her

I guess no one cornered her on her "Creationist" views?

That's a shame.

I lost count of the number of times she said "nu kewl er"

But it was cute when she said "John tapped me". She says "tap" alot- should be a drinking game. We all should start drinking more.

Live Free or Diebold

"Tap" is a term used when

"Tap" is a term used when you are selected to become a Skull.

Is McCain a Bonesman?

I wonder if its "no girls allowed" - 'cept for the corpse of Sacajawea

I thought it was

the skull of Geronimo.

oh haha

youre right : )

Live Free or Diebold

On your main point

she has probably been made at least a probationary member of the triple secret Auxillary Boneswomen. ;-)

I thought he was tapping her

she said it, not me.

PALIN would have been SUCH a GOOD WARRIOR for Dr. Paul

if she hadn't been a "neocon"...such a shame. But, it is obvious she has bought into the warmongering crap AND equally a shame she couldn't criticize OBAMA & BIDEN for voting for that BAILOUT PIG, because I do sense she is honest and probably wouldn't have voted for this pig, if she had been "free" of McCain.

C'mon, she did well, and she has been the only...

...major politician on the ticket who has made positive comments about Ron Paul. I'd vote for her, and with McCain's health, a vote for that ticket might be a vote for her (reality, not judgement). Now we'll see what I get...

Freedom for All

So you must be in favor of

So you must be in favor of McCain's ideas on foreign policy?

By the power of all things good.....

SAVE THIS PERSON!!!!

Saved by the bell

Watched the first question, telephone rang, then I watched the last question. They were pretty good in silence. Biden was giving her much more power than she was giving him-silently. She would seldom look at him and he looked at her constantly. He sounded argumentative as if his listeners were not believing him, she sounded well rehearsed-by George Bush.

The funniest part was "I love Israel." "No, I love Israel." "I love Israel more." "Ok, isn't it wonderful that we both love Israel. That is the best part of this."

I guess I missed the part that this debate was going to be about foreign policy-did I??

Did anyone catch the quote behind them

I want to read what it actually says.
