A lot of folks have begun calling B.J. Lawson the next Ron Paul. The comparison is very flattering. . . for me.
For those who are not yet familiar, B.J. Lawson is a wonderful young candidate running for Congress in North Carolina's Fourth Congressional District. B.J. is a medical doctor, family man, Constitutionalist and a fierce defender of individual freedom. We need B.J. Lawson in Congress to stand beside me in the fight for liberty, and against the corporate socialism that has overtaken our economy!
B.J. is running against an entrenched big government liberal who voted for the $700 billion taxpayer bailout of Wall Street and has a long history of voting for huge spending, raiding your social security trust fund for pet projects, and even voted for the Patriot Act.
A recent poll shows B.J. Lawson within striking distance in this election, but he needs your help!
B.J. needs $250,000, right away, to run the campaign he needs to take this race right down the the wire. I know that if we band together, we can help him get the money he needs.
I am asking you, as a fellow Defender of Liberty, to mark the four week countdown to this November's election and join with me and donate to B.J. Lawson's campaign this Tuesday, October 7th. I know times are tough, but that is all the more reason why we need to send a message and help B.J. Lawson.

Just cause the bomb is over doesn't mean we have to stop giving. If you have not donated yet, please consider doing so. This is a great example of the kind of person we want to fill congress with. This is the kind of person who we will see on the NAY side of Bailout votes and Patriot Acts.

This is too important to sit on the sidelines. I just sent in $200 for BJ. If Lawson wins it will send a strong message that Ron Paul candidates can succeed in Congress. If we can pull out a few minor victories in 2008 then 2010 will be even stronger.

It seems as if he could even meet his target of 500 000 today. Well, he will in any case fare much better than any previous Republican in that district in decades, and that should also send a sign. Yet to win is the aim and is possible with hard work, although Price won strongly in 2006.
If Lawson wins in a difficult very strong traditional Democratic district in a year where a few Republicans may loose their seats and the presidential race like this year, it will send an enormous strong signal that Ron Paul's platform is the winning strategy and the GOP may adopt most or all of Dr. Paul's platform if they are wise and politically smart.

I like what you are saying about the GOP picking up Ron Paul's platform. In 1994 it seemed like they were in favor of most of Ron Paul's positions (under Gingrich at least), so maybe they could turn back to those ideals. I'd personally rather just replace them with a new breed of politician who uses Ron Paul as a template. The ones who are in there are habitually conditioned to compromise and would probably go back to their old ways once reelected.

you need a strong principled leader, and independent thinker and true maverick with a record to back it up. Now that Dr. Paul has said he will unlikely be a candidate in 2012, I think (only) Gary "veto" Johnson fits that requirement. As Johnson formulated it well, most politicians look at what polls good and follow the party line, instead of having a solid set of principles and stick to your principles and rather make the people follow your common sense approach. That wins in the end, as Johnson and others have proven. Dr. Paul is irreplacable and I think his best days as a politician are still ahead of him. He could lead a revolution in congress in 2010, could be appointed majority leader or he could run for senator and then take a leading role there, while his son Robert can take over in his district, Rand in a district in Kentucky etc. Some good possible candidates have already been identified, some that run in the primaries and in the meetup groups.
Dr. Paul's platform goes to the root of the problem of what makes drastically smaller govt. (Gingrich revolution) practically impossible: the Fed and its inflationary policies and powerful special interest groups. With Dr. Paul's individual fundraising success, it means good, principled candidates can be elected without large PAC money. And once a majority is secured, congress can start working on the Fed's position. It will be a hard fight. Eeven a dedicated strong solid group of say 50, 80 congressmen can have a very strong influence and determine others.

If Lawson pulls this win off, if we pull this off. There will be a new term entered into the political lexicon...

I never saw my name during the Ron Paul but that I understand. I wish more people still continued with the revolution which should be just a beginning.

There will be highs and lows, but gradually, we have already started to see a huge increase in numbers. It is natural for people to lose steam after set backs, but I can promise you this: whether it's Bush or McCain or Obama or whoever, each day will present us with more ammunition in the fight against tyranny. Each day we will have yet another example of something outrageous that will open just a few more eyes and add to our ranks. It has been happening all year, and dare I say it has been happening to some degree for decades.
Just hang in there.

I just want to say, that while I do not have the exact figures, last night around 930pm pacific, I am pretty sure he had well under $300k and now he is almost at $426k. That is awesome!
I hope we can push this over the $500k mark tonight. If you have not donated yet, please consider making a contribution, even a small one. It all counts.
I know there are people out there who feel that none of this really matters, and I admit that it is not going to be easy, but remember this: a year ago, there is no way that Lawson would have raised this much money. Every day people are having their eyes opened. There is no denying this.
Let's say Lawson doesn't make it. Is that a failure? A disappointment, to be sure, but hardly a failure. The thing about people who have had their eyes opened is that they rarely if ever go back from where they came. A whole new world is opened up to them and they are changed for good. That's a good thing for us. Let's just keep fighting the fight and see where it takes us.

If anyone out there is sitting on the fence on this, let me throw out this thought...
I heard Ron Paul say in an interview that he wouldn't be doing a lot of fundraising for others because it was so much harder to be effective.
If we SHOW him that we ARE listening to his opinion on how to remake congress, he will be inclined to do this more often and together, we will remake this government in short order!

We're hoping to get a bunch of Ron-like congresscritters elected, to form a constitutionalist faction. Such people will likely pay attention to Ron just out of rationality, because he's THE experienced "old hand" on the subjects.
But if Ron's endorsement brings in votes and funding, this will give him a lot of additional clout. Not only will it, as you say, encourage him to do it more (and thus get more of our kind of congressmen elected). But within the new faction he'll likely become the explicit leader, not just the mentor. The group will be more likely to form a caucus and do group planning.
(It will also give him more clout with the rest of the congress, as it becomes apparent that doing things his way - paying attention to the constitution and the constituents, rather than just (other) party "leaders" and pressure groups / lobbiests, actually helps with reelection.)
All of which is good. So let's DO this thing.

Especially if everyone starts calling friends/family. And if all of us put in another $25. Really, what does $25 buy anymore anyway? I can barely by a fast food meal with that for my family.

Great Patriots, all!
It was an honor to see my name amongst the great Patriots who donated today. I sat there for about 1/2-hour just watching the names displayed. There were several from here in Missouri! Next money bomb I'm going to write down the names of my fellow Missourians and make it a point to meet a few of them in the future. If I ever have the time to meet them, that is... :(

And arguably this money means more since the odds on success here are much higher. If we can succeed here, and prove our power and get another 5-10 allies in along with RP, that will be huge for a few reasons. First, his voice will become louder, and second, other politicians will begin to fear us and therefore maybe start pandering to us... :)
