100 Items That Disappear

March 20, 2003

HOLLY NOTE: This list was first assembled by Joseph Almond prior to Y2K and it is valid to consider these as "extremely desirable items" in the event of nearly any disaster. Modify as you see fit.

Just thought to add these to the list

Something with which to wash the laundry, such as a pressure handwasher (~$48) or the more economical Rapid Washer (~$16).

And depression or no depression, I want my OxiClean!! ;)

How do you melt silver, gold

How do you melt silver, gold & platinum?

Can one use an iron skillet to melt metal at a specific heating (Fahrenheit) and divide into nuggets using a specific tool (hooked poker or something) to dry for trading?

Sorry for being uninformed, I'm curious about the basic metalsmithing down to its ancient roots. Is there a metalsmithing book you recommend?

I just ordered a 25-piece roll of .999 Silver Canadian Maple Leaf. Just bought three old quarters that are 90% silver.

I have been looking for a good jewlery book for a few years now and didnt find anything to be very helpful.

I think that is one trade that has been kept pretty secret.

Or you could order silver hydrosol

(advanced form of colloidal silver) from

http://www.helpingamerica...

Are you going to pay to have your "nuggets" assayed?

Uh, assuming all assayers are gone or DEAD...

...I would have to learn how to be a reasonably competent assayer during the chaos of the panic and depression.

I mean, I wouldn't want to try "jewing" the people in trade. Just be fair and consistent.

I guess I would need a double degree in economics and finance and certificates in assaying & metalsmithing (assuming these diploma papers will survive fire -- stored safely in the portable vault) to be considered trustworthy.

burning stuff

matches/lighters
charcoal
Coleman fuel - sold in gallons at Wal-mart

...

These look like the shopping lists for Oregon Trail II. Ya, it's good to be prepared, but come on people. Didn't you know the sky has been falling for over two millennia now?

There is still an election to be held, and still many candidates who need our support. Some need volunteers, and some need money. Let's make sure our kids and our grandkids will never even have to think about stocking up on honey.

Let's get our country back.

?

???

Walmart was out of canning jars and lids.

Apparently we aren't the only ones who are worried. Don't forget your first-aid stuff. You will need seeds for next year along with sugar, salt, vinegar and lemon juice to preserve the crop. Invest in Kerr and Ball glass jars, lids and assessories.

Walmart's always out of

these things. Our supermarket runs out of canning supplies, but they are restocked by the next day, whereas Walmart seems to get in a shipment, and when that runs out, that's all there is, folks.

parrafin

works in the place of lids on some stuff.
Our local Wallyworld was out too.

manual pump

I installed a manual pump on the formerly abandoned well behind my garage today. One less dependence! = D

That's a very good idea!

That is what we did before Y2K. Our original well is right out our back door and the manual pump is in our basement. You can survive without much food for several weeks, but not water.

what was that stuff the mass gov was lying about?

Maybe they are sitting on top of gas reserves???

Or maybe they live in the desert, where wood may not be plentiful?

LOL.

Just bought:

400 feet of clothesline
lots of clothespins
about 1,000 ft. of nylon cord
lots of sewing needles and thread
thimbles and scissors
seam rippers
velcro in two colors and several widths
6 gals of distilled water and 12 nine-volt batteries for making colloidal silver
five more propane canisters
extra rechargeable batteries and two additional chargers
scopes for rifle and pistol
extra 18-volt tool batteries
down-filled camo jacket
lighter-weight camo jacket
three camo shirts
more extra socks.

Will shop online for:
150 feet of 3/4-inch poly rope
fold-away photovoltaic panels and related system electronics
five gals. concentrated anti-tick/mosquito Permethrin for clothing
extra computer batteries

Will place another food co-op order:
120 lbs. honey

Gun store:
backup rifle & pistol (to be buried off site)

Gotta check for more gold/silver at coin shop too.

Just curious...

120 lbs of honey?

That's all the store had on hand?

Speaking of honey...

My "honey" weighs about 120 lbs too! hehe

LOL

Thanks for the laugh:)

A lot of people use honey as a direct substitute for sugar and honey lasts a very long time (and is much healthier), so that may be why he is wanting to store so much of it.

LOL x 5

Nice!

Knocked a bigee off the list.

I just ordered $713.27-worth of solar electric components from http://www.batterystuff.c...
12 Volt 92 Amp Hour AGM Battery $264.00
Sunlinq and PE compatible 12V 7A controller $41.00
P330watt Solar Panel Military Grade 12V 30 Watt Portable $398.00
plus a small shipping charge

This will allow me to charge smaller batteries and run 12-volt appliances directly off the deep-cycle, long-life, no-spill AMG battery. By adding an inverter that I can get at the auto parts store I can also run 110-volt appliances for short periods. I plan to add more batteries and solar arrays later to increase system capacity. Battery can also be charged with stepped-down house current (to serve as standby power for oil furnace during power outages), my gasoline-powered generator, and a pedal-powered generator I plan to build.

Do you have a place to get

silver wire for making your colloidal silver?

Try Atlas Nova-.9999 pure

food freedom, one seed at a time.

http://www.abeland1.com/S...
For making ultra pure colloidial silver, .999 bars have too much impurity left in them.

Thanks,

appreciate that. Now, for some work so I can buy it.

No

I plan on using a couple of 1-oz. silver ingots. Very long-lasting electrodes! However, I ran across the name of Academy Metals, a company in Albuquerque, New Mexico that makes commercial silver products. Haven't checked them out but I definitely would if I was looking for wire.

Just three things

Cheap litres of whiskey
Cigarettes
Bricks of 22 LR

With these, I can get everything else...

"The question is not who will let me- the question is who will stop me" - Ayn Rand

thanks for the post I'll make a list

generator
gas
store water - I have a good filter so I am bottling tap water this week
organic fruits and veges for their seeds, as I can't seem to find seeds locally this time of year
more treats - to make life easier as I have a lot of basics stored, so I'm buying things like choclolate sauce, canned cream, tobacco, tequila
dog food
cord of firewood
lots of the small propane canisters
duplicate prescriptions of medicines
junk silver
heavy sheet of plastic for a homemade greenhouse lean to
cases of beer (can't seem to keep those around)

More water, canned goods, rice, beans, dried fruit.

I am looking into buying a Weber Smokey Mountain or a Bradley Smoker. Does anyone have any advice or opinions on the best way to get started?

Food - Food - Food

When the 82nd deployed to Grenada in "Urgent Fury" there was a place called "tent city" it is where operational details would be revealed as we got ready to load on to waiting C-130's and C-141's at Pope AFB. We would also be issued mission oriented gear. Such as night vision, live ammo, food rations etc. Well what happened during Urgent Fury is everyone was real gungho, the division had not deployed for some time.

So instead of loading up on plenty of canteens for water and MRE'e everyone grabbed a bunch of ammo, grenades, claymores etc. Well the shooting did not last that long. And everyone just sat around that island hungry and thirsty for a couple days.

Moral of the story: Food - Food - Food Stock up on FOOD!

I have found efoods Direct to be the best by far. Their stuff is fresh packed fresh food. No GMO.

Dog Food

My "security system" needs to be kept in good shape.

Might be a good idea to start working on a system to retain rainwater for use in case the utility goes down.

Yep, first line of defence

I keep as much dog food as human food...

BAKER CREEK HEIRLOOM SEEDS helped sponsor Rally

I made it a point to read the sponsor acknowledgements on the back page of the Rally to the Republic booklet, and make it a point to give them my business.

Thank you so much.

I just spent the last hour on here. I ordered over 35 different varieties of seeds (all different fruits and veggies) and my order only came to $68. I thought the prices were good and I like to support businesses that support the cause. Here are some reviews of Baker Creek.
