Black Monday! Hooray!

Maybe sending all the manufacturing overseas was not a good idea after all. *Don't worry, America, you're a consumer nation. You don't need to get your hands dirty. Let others do the work for you!*

Welcome to your reality check.

What we shoud have been doing is eating them a new ...

rear-end! It's never too late!

I hear they shut down the Russian stock market...

AGAIN!

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

"The Russian stock markets stand in utter ruins. The RTS index closed Monday down over 19%, finishign at a truly jolting 866 — down 64% from its May high. The Oil & Gas Index closed down over 22%. Gazprom, Russia’s leading business entity, was down nearly 25%. Norilsk Nickle, another leading industrial enterprise, was down nearly 40% in just one day of trading. Sberbank the leading bank (state owned) was down 16%. The market broke through not only the 1,000 point psychological barrier, but 900 as well. The Kremlin panicked once again, and shut down the market so further carnage could not occur. It reopened them for just 25 minutes, saw more horrific bloodshed, and then shut them down again permanently. Very similar to the way the USSR made bad news go away by burning newspapers."

they will use this as an excuse to return

firmly to the "old" ways. The majority of the people will support Putin.

I've been contributing 10%

I've been contributing 10% of my salary to my 401K (with matching company funds of 3.5 %)since around 1990,I have been pretty active as far as moving my funds around over the years. This has made/saved me a lot of money.About a year ago I
(just like most others here)
began to read the writing on our economic wall,
so to speak.
I cashed out a good portion
(at about a 40% penalty/tax loss)
to buy metals as a hedge against
the dollars future worth.
I still have a few hundred thousand in this account ,and expect to lose most ,if not all of this money because it would KILL me to give the fed any more of my money (they have STOLEN enough this year already)Thanks hAnK. Best of luck to you all!
Also...
Other than my physical metal holdings ,my gardens and general preparedness (thanks to all of you,by way of the rEVOLution)I will be monitarily broke, but I say LET IT BURN and let's start anew!

Hooray????

Why are you cheering? I see no joy in anyone's losses or misery.

Double-Edged Phenomena

We cheer the fever that will expunge the virus even while it threatens to cook the brain.

We cheer the storm that shakes the dead wood out of our trees even as it threatens to rip the roofs off of our houses.

We cheer the turbulence that churns and cleanses the stagnant waters even as it threatens to capsize our boats.

We cheer the coming economic meltdown that exposes the fraud of the Federal Reserve and our credit based markets even as it threatens to impoverish and bankrupt many of our neighbors and employers.

Silver linings are all around us, sometimes inextricably mixed with terrible dangers. Work hard, rest easy, be flexible and alert, and stay diversified in both your investments ad your talents.

"May you live in interesting times."

There is nothing wrong with

There is nothing wrong with getting our hands dirty and working. It isn't the working class that is going to suffer, they always find a job. It is those who have never produced for a living that will suffer. Can you imagine a stock broker bailing hay.

LOL

No I can't picture that...without laughing anyway...

No, but unfortunately I *can* picture him stealing the farmer's

wallet...

Or selling him some snake oil... or arranging a loan for seeds & fertilizer and then coming back to foreclose on the farm...

Or executing any one of 1,000 other "Flim-Flam" style con jobs.

Alas.

How long do you think it will take

To reestablish the industrial base ?

Only as long as it takes...

For Americans to remember who it is that they are. Resilient, peace-loving, hard-working souls who have done this sort of thing before. Pretty soon we'll remember what it is like to be proud again!
Happiness is not a state of arrival, but a mode of travel.

This is the time

for people to come forward and start small businesses. If your willing to barter, and not try to get rich in these desperate times, you will come out ahead. Then when times get better, if you have treated people right and run a tight ship, you could really make a move in the business world.

In the rolling wheat growing country in Washington state

I have driven through many small towns that are dying. They buildings are still there, but vacant. These towns used to be thriving communities with a couple of churches, a few taverns and restaurants, a grocery store or two, a few service stations, and a bank or two, plus a K through 12 school.
The last time I drove through this area with the knowledge that our country is going down, I realized that the opportunity to start small businesses close to home may be now! The empty homes and businesses could be filled with families fleeing the cities for a more simple life.

Exactly...

we bought 40 acres outside of a very small town..it has four bulding down town, and a burned down old gas station. Very rural, and there are actually quite a few people that live around there. Our land at one time had a small refinery on it in the 20's...my dream would be to be able to refine or make alcohol for fuel, sell my fruits and veggies, and buy up the buildings downtown..one stop for your gas, veggies, fruit, etc etc etc.. We would like to open a small restaraunt in town and use all of our own produce in it, that way we could keep prices down low and still survive..

This is also the time..

To remove the restrictions that make it impractical for small businesses to sell shares to the public. Thanks to FDR and old Joe Kennedy, public funding is only an option for companies that need to raise tens of millions of dollars at least.

Think of what kind of market we'd have if you could invest in your local bowling alley or bridal shop, instead of only being able to choose from the companies listed on the NYSE or the NASDAQ.

Should I buy gold and silver

Should I buy gold and silver now?

Barter

In a depressiion, gold and silver are only good if they have something of value in an every day context. If you need to get food from someone down the street, he is not going to want gold or silver, he'll probably want something more useful. Learn how to make something useful instead. Use your dollars like you would firewood and gold as a paperweight.

Happiness is not a state of arrival, but a mode of travel.

exactly

my thoughts....

And learn how to grow food!

That is the best way to earn a living in hard times!
Happiness is not a state of arrival, but a mode of travel.

that is exactly what we are doing

we bought forty beautiful acres and go get our first goats this week, and we'll have a huge garden and cattle this spring...it's time to do things more locally.

We can sell our veggies or barter them for goods, and at very reasonable prices. With anything we can't sell, we can help take care of the poor and aged population. I've even thought about bartering in this way.... sell veggies for say $2 a pound if I pick them, or have certain days where people can come pick their own for $1 a pound..either way I break at least even, and those who are willing to get their hands dirty will be able to feed their families very cheaply.

good post.

Thanks for your posts

My husband and I love to hear your updates about how you are managing. Just sending you a virtual pat on the back and thanks for inspiring us to learn more and plan.

Thank you!

I never knew that all the lessons on hard work, helping your neighbors, and being generous would ever come into play in my lifetime. My Grandparents raised me to understand that there is only a depression, if you let it happen. We are going to try and do our best to not let it happen around here...I can deal with people dressing their kids in hand me downs, but I can't deal with people going hungry.

Thanks for the encouragement! (sp?)

Trying to learn more

Trying to learn more and understand what you are learning is frustrating Lol.
