Daily Paul are not falling for the financial scaremongering and it's predecessor...warmongering, many Americans are very afraid.

Those in power know exactly how to get the people to beg them to solve all their problems. The masses today are no longer self sufficient. They continually look to government to make it all better. Of course, as pointed out by tstorey they get plenty of help ginning up the fear from Fox, MSNBC, CNBC, etc.

Propaganda Technique Series - Topic #1 - Appeals to Fear - How to Apply

Appeals to Fear:

Usage: This is best used when something really is urgent, and people aren't responding. It's also very useful in cases where you have no logical argument that would appeal to the majority, so you need them to abandon reason and act quickly.*

Steps::

1.) Convince people that they or their interests are in immediate danger of some sort.:

- This cannot be an implied threat of something too far in the future, or they will lose interest.

- Remember also that this has to effect their lives directly, or most people will not care.

- If it is urgent, but they wouldn't understand or agree, then you may want to tweak the truth a bit to catch their interest.*

2.) Propose a solution to the problem that is causing this threat.:

- Make sure your solution benefits everyone in some way. They won't agree with a plan with no perks for very long.

- People do not like huge changes, so try to make it sound as familiar as possible, maybe speak of "good old days" and compare your proposed results to them.

- You, obviously, need not disclose every minor detail to everyone. Some things won't even be noticed after the fact, so it's not always the wisest thing to do to be completely honest.*

3.) Convince the people that this can be done.:

- This has to be (or seem like)* a viable option. You must present a plan and the resources to accomplish this plan. The majority of people will not follow a side that they think will lose.

- They must believe that this method will be effective. Your method can not only solve half of the problem. It has to be a big step, or else people will find it to be futile and not worth their time.

- When using the fear appeal, remind the people of those more vulnerable to this threat than they are. Everyone has a weaker (younger or elderly) friend or family member. If you do not mention these dependents, many people may ignore your cause because they feel as though they can handle it. When the more vulnerable are brought into the picture, they realize they might need to do something now, instead of waiting until the threat is at their door.

Remember kids, the fear appeal is never the most ethical tactic to use. However, it can prove the most useful in many situation, and it is certainly the most effective.

Everyone here knows what's up. Be afraid if you like, but the people on this site are the most informed people in the USA. I think pissed off would be a better way of looking at the posts on this site.

Your title scares me. And your writing scares me. It feeds on my terror, anger, despair and helplessness.

Our economy is on the brink of collapse, and the Daily Paul is the one place that for over a year you could hear a group of people scream from the top of our lungs that change must come now! And now that it's too late for change we don't know what to do but scream louder (and hoard gold, silver, ammunition and food).

There are frightening things going on right now, let this be a place for free speech and let us vent our fears to others here. This is one place where I can value a stranger's opinion, because I know that at our core (soul, or whatever) we're similar. We might disagree on some stuff, but we're all in this same fight for liberty, peace and prosperity.

The fear displayed on this sight is not in an effort to control any reader. This is not FoxNews. We are intelligent enough to gather here. If something bothers someone, then take it as food for thought. Nobody here profits from invoking fear on others. This is just a difficult time to go through.

By the way, FDR was not President in 1929, I believe that was Calvin Coolidge. And if we decided to "focus on a responsible discussion of the people who have hijacked the election", that would invoke fear on people.

I don't own a tv. I quit watching it when we invaded Iraq because I too hated the propaganda machine that just rolled on while I was screaming "NO!!" from the sidelines. I feel as though there are a lot of people here who are similar. Maybe you should stop watching tv too.

Us Ron Paul supporters are upset with the world around us. We might worry about things and discuss them, but that should be natural for us. We don't like what's going on.

Please don't try to control us with your simplistic reasoning that we're being controlled by fear. We are smarter than that. We control the fear, and here is where we can all scream "NO!!" from the sidelines together.

Even if nobody else out there reads this, I feel a lot better :)

We may be on the brink of a financial disaster, but we may pull through, but:
Be prepared. Stock up on what you can. Be vigilant and ready for the worst and hope for the best... ( I am sure I plagiarized someone there!)
Just plan ahead and do all you can to be ready to survive if tshtf. Hey, if it turns out you didn't need those supplies in an emergency, you still have a lot of great items that are usable. But keep trying to increase your supply of needed items. It never hurts to have extra on hand.
One thing I am investing in for next year is a pressure canner. Do I think I really need one? I don't know, but I like the garden and if I am able to can the excess then it is a good investment. I may not need to can my own foods but I may as well have the capability. Those foods will be edible regardless of there being a crisis or not. I also am splitting the cost of purchasing and raising some pigs. I have 1 1/2 acres and figure I may as well raise some meat to put in the freezer. That meat will be good with or without a crisis.

We seem to be generating the same fear the federal government generates. I'm all for our keeping each other informed (that's a wonderful thing; gotta be ready for anything). But a I think a steady diet of gloom & doom can be mighty counterproductive!

I don't like fear mongering, either, but give me the TRUTH, whatever it is. I'm tired of people sugar coating and hiding what we need to know and be aware of (I'm talking about MSM, etc). I want to know WHAT IS, so I can make appropriate decisions, and then live knowing I've done all I can.

I have also become dismayed at how The DailyPaul has degenerated into a rude, name-calling, fearmongering forum. It used to be such a pleasure to come and dialogue with like-minded patriots. Not anymore.
What a shame and disappointment it must be for Michael Nystrom who has devoted so much time and effort to provide a venue for discourse.

At this point I have recognized which people are consistently negative and abusive, and I don't bother to read them anymore, though they are usually the ones who post most often.

Nah!! Nothing lasts forever. Change is inevitable and you just have to roll with the punches. The U.S. in the dumper due to corruption and the shenanigans of the Fed and willingness of the government to let them do it. One way or another this empire is crumbling. Is that bad? Kinda depends on us. This world could be plunged into a thousand years of darkness, or "We the People of these United States" can seize upon this as an opportunity to take our nation back and to rebuild it on the Constitution. To do that, we have to be prepared to resist the NWO. We have to expect and prepare for the worst while planning to rebuild our nation to the highest standards of freedom.

I was getting pretty spooked myself, I like this site, but sometimes the information does cause me some anxiety once in awhile. However I think i've been misguided my emotions, or rather taken over by them. I now use this information to open my eyes and plan better for the future. I plan on being more self-reliant, less focused on material things and even more so now, praying with my family on a daily basis. I even include prayers for our administration and the leaders of other countries such as China, Russia etc. After all weren't we told to pray for those that do us wrong? But I also know that martial law will be imposed if we do lose it and lose our civility. After all, weren't some of the greatest wins in the Bible done by non-violence, or rather non-fatal means? We have to remember this throughout the coming years and be aware, but not afraid. And above all pray for those that do us harm.
