I must say she seems like a wonderful woman and her books are right on... up until she says shes voting for Obama... I just don't get it!

Please decide using your own best reason and instinct whether Divide and Conquer serves Us or Them? But first decide who's Us and Who's them.

For me and my home, Naomi WOLF is to be celebrated as fighting the good fight. I think she is a friend to the movement positioning to be loyal opposition to mainstream democrats in maneuvers to accomplish our antifascist common goals. These people of good faith exist among progressives, just as certainly as Paul and Baldwin exist among the conservative camp.

I couldn't stomach their role, but I respect the endurance of these subverters from within. When I tried, I remember the most biting affront was the friendly fire of those I attempted to align with on ideological mutual concerns because of unfounded trite labels ascribed due to politics of party necessary for one to be a player.

I don't mean to suggest Naomi Wolf is a double agent. I don't sense she is conniving. But I also don't see any evidence Wolf is your usual smarmy liberal, any more than Baldwin is the typical smug jerk from the neoconned brute Christian right. These stereotypes exist because they are more often represented in the rule than the exception, but we need to be open to relationships with, and cultivate collaboration with, exceptional people of all camps.

As for me and my home, we'll try harder to understand you can't reason with those that bark, howl and growl.

Pat Buchanan recently published an oped which came as close to an endorsement of John McCain as I can imagine. That doesn't mean Buchanan is wrong about desiring a republic, not an empire. Barry Goldwater, Jr. endorsed McCain, yet is Ron Paul's running mate on the Louisiana ballot. I think McCain is worse than Obama, but I wouldn't vote for either.

Whether you love her or hate her, she like Pat Buchanan, has a stance that is revealing. I'd rather listen to someone that is consistent despite whether or not I agree with that person in totality (which never occurs). Again, like Buchanan, I respect her because she truly believes what she speaks; in other words I know where she stands.

To summarize, both her and Pat "get it". They both "get it" in their own respective ways and I'm fine with that. My advice to readers of DP is to take a percentage approach at times. If the majority of the things a person says can be agreed upon over 7 out of 10 times, for the greater good, one can at least observe that the person is generally trying to do something or say something for that greater good.

None of us agree 100% of the time. That's the beauty of debate and discourse, in a free society, when trying and work through those disagreements. Please keep some of these things in mind before having such knee jerk reactions to what one says or does.

I actually agree with Naomi Wolf, that she's not crying wolf (lol) and things need to be done now before it's too late. If you get anything out of her message maybe that's the one to keep in mind.

Naomi Wolf is a courageous and intelligent woman and I have great respect for her. If she believes that a vote for Obama is best for her, well, she has to live with that, not me.

...Not fully awake either. She's getting closer though. Let's do a recap. Originally she supported Ron Paul. Once it became clear Ron wasn't going to be on the ticket she chose what she thought was "the lesser of 2 evils", like most people we know. Since then, she spoke at the Rally for the Republic I think, and just this weekend she came out with a 30 min youtube vid of an interview with her in Seattle where she is saying there is very little time remaining to do something to stop this closing down of our "democracy"

My biggest problem with her is that she keeps spouting "democracy, democracy, democracy", all while talking about how great the founders were, totally forgetting they gave us a "Republic". I do think that if someone could show her the 45 min film "Overview of America" by the John Birch Society, that she would instantly become much more educated on what form of government we actually are, and the differences between a democracy and a republic.

I do not think that she understands the serious damage done to our Republic by Woodrow Wilson, who spouted the phrase "making the world safe for democracy", like it's our duty to bring a form of government to other countries that our founders abhored, which led to our involvement in WW1, with a little help from the Lusitania false flag event.

Her only faults are the same ones that almost ALL Americans have:

1) Choosing the lesser of 2 evils is still choosing evil,

2) The word "Democracy" is no where to be found in our founding documents, except the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, where the founders made clear they abhored it for good cause, instead choosing to give us a "Republic, if we can keep it", and

3) She may still be influenced by the false left/right paradigm. I say "may" because recent comments she has made has indicated progress in this area.

In my view, Naomi Wolf (not Klien, this thread is about Wolf), is not an "idiot", but could use our help to be more effective. You know, she probably comes here! The last thing we want to do is alienate her when she is directly responsible for waking up 10's of thousands of Americans to the growing threat of Fascism through her books, interviews, and speaking engagements, and she very well may be a fellow member of the C4L. She is scared to death for her childrens lives, and I see insicators of stress in her last interview that could be construed that she may be afraid for her own life for waking people up. If this is true, then this is 1 very brave woman who needs our help.

She is dead on accurate regarding the 10 steps to closing down an open society, and she is dead on in her view that all 10 steps are in play, and little time remains, weeks, maybe only days. This is an article which explains all 10 steps.

In closing, I hope she does see this thread, and I hope she takes my points as constructive criticism. For our part, I would advocate we stop taking a holier than thou approach because it alienates people and does nothing to win allies, and we need 'em. Insults are counterproductive to our mission. People are actually listening to us right now due to the credit crisis and the economy taking a dump. Let us use this breif opportunity wisely. Thank you.

Man, there's just something about inflammatory language that gets the juices flowing when civil language doesn't. I'm as guilty of this as anyone else, I am sure. I wish it were otherwise.

I like some of what I know about Naomi Wolf because she has a mind to defend individual liberty. I just cast an early ballot yesterday for a Christian, of all things, because I had the notion that he also had a mind to defend individual liberty.

For me, right now, that is plenty to admire in a public person.

these are times you can't be too chosy about your allies. In a broad sense you may call Nader and McKinney 'socialists too. But they seem to be honest people. And its the same with Naomi Wolfe. And she has taken personal risk by calling for the arrest of Bush and his cronies.

I wouldn't say she is an idiot. I like her. I read her book. She's misled I think. I wouldn't give up on her. There are a lot of people who don't quite get it yet but are half-way there. I wouldn't say she is a left-wing gatekeeper although her support for Obama may appear that way. I think there's hope for her.
