I need Some Advice on preperation

I think they had a booth at the Rally for the Republic, so they are Constitutional friends! I just did an order for Christmas gifts for family--books, music, hats, t-shirts, seed collections, gift certificates, etc.

Great Depression One lasted a decade. Repeat that to yourself a couple times.

A worst case hyper-inflationary collapse of the dollar followed by years of inept meddling from Washington that prevents the economy from recovering could easily last a decade or more.

You are not going to store ten years worth of food, fuel, etc.

The inescapable conclusion is that you are going to have to be able to participate in a simplified, localized, near-subsistence economy unless you want to starve or lick government boot for a loaf of bread.

How will you do that?

What goods or services will you offer to your community that they will be willing to trade for? If you, like me, have a job that is likely to be seen as pretty useless in really hard times, then you need a backup.

Try and figure out something of value you can do in the post-collapse economy to support yourself and buy the equipment, training, and supplies NOW.

A bunker mentality is short term at best. It is an IMPORTANT short term for sure. Obviously you need to be able to survive the times of riots and mayhem and complete economic standstill. But that will be short-lived. The people who survive will form a primitive economic system. Those who figure out how to participate in that economic system will survive or even thrive. Those who try to hold out on their own with their stored goods will eventually fail.

I'd look into storing fuel. It's cheap now. I do not believe it will stay cheap. Even if it stays in its current oil-per-barrel range, inflation will drastically change the price soon.

There's going to be an inflation wave coming. Don't believe the people who say otherwise. We are in a deflationary period only because of bank failures and emergency reactions to same.

Also, do you have land, and if so, is it fenced and being grazed with livestock?

First, seeds, open-pollinated (OP) varieties. Assuming you have a safe place to be (whether that's at home or on the back side of some national forest) you'll want to grow some food of your own.

Second, canning jars for preservation and any multipurpose cooking utensils you can imagine you'll need (a couple large pots especially - they can double as anything from raincatchers to gametraps).

Third, a good topo map of a local wilderness area. You can find a spring and hunker down for a while if need be.

Fourth, anything necessary for your climate. Where I live now winters get to -40, sometimes for days or weeks on end. I lived most of my first 30 years in NC with a much warmer climate. Those two places require completely different preparation plans. And no matter what your climate, I would suggest a good supply of firewood.

Fifth, a reasonable store of gasoline, just in case you need to travel. Otherwise it can be a solvent, an emergency firestarter, a weapon, or traded. Be sure to use stabilizer.

Sixth, a good working knowledge of your local plants and animals. The SIMPLEST skills are what are important in such a situation.

Lastly, right now I wouldn't put but just a portion of that cash into gold, maybe 2-5 oz of scrap or coins (something small and easily carried/traded). There is nearly complete confidence in the dollar since most people don't know any better. What I mean to say is that barring a TOTAL collapse of the American government our currency will still be accepted by many people. The only fear then is massive inflation. But you didn't have kindling on your list, did you?

BTW if the economy totally collapses don't listen to these silver bugs .... FOOD & WATER will be king and nothing else except for guns and ammo .... I don't think many stores will sell you goods with gold and silver .... Oh and You're coin shops might go out of business.

You better get some heirloom seeds and possibly more food to feed your family if You are going the survivalist route. More people the merrier especially if they will use the guns. I would also get some solar and wind to give you a little bit of electricity.

You know there are laws against "hoarding". Why go ahead and tell everyone what you have?

And why make yourself a target if someone knows who you are and reads what you have? In the event of a huge emergency, those who have everything and are known.. will become targets of those who need everything.

How much food, how many guns, how much ammo, etc... in my opinion should remain a secret. And especially how much silver, cash, and how much you intend to put into gold.

I think it would be a wiser thing to just ask how much percentage of extra cash... no matter waht the amount, one should put into gold. It has to basically be disposable income.

A windmill for your own power?

I hear Berkey is the best. I'm getting one tomorrow afternoon. About $225 + which should last you about 11 years. You can buy back up filters for it for another 11 years. (usage would of course vary for more people or the size of the unit, as would cost, but you get the idea for an entry level system) Can also filter chemicals like flouride.

What's your electricity source? Consider a sizable battery bank and solar panels. Don't put all your eggs in one basket though. Consider a tri-fuel generator. This is a generator that can run on gas, natural gas, or propane. This gives you 2 ways requiring 1 of 4 resources to make electricity.

Seeds might also be a thoughtful idea. Even if you don't grow anything They might be handy for trade and barter.

A gas mask and bullet proof vest might not hurt either.
