That modern "liberals" are often cranky & pessimistic, and sometimes even arrogant or holier-than-thou... while "classical liberals", libertarians, and true "conservatives" are almost always easy to talk to and comfortable to be around, even if they don't always agree on everything?
The "politically correct" mindset has become as stifling as a bad two hour "off Broadway" play that is about one and half hours too long.
Modern liberalism is dying as a popular movement. Obama will drive the final stake in it as his true colors continue to show, as evidenced by his recent FISA and bailout votes. The recent uptick in his popularity is due only to McCain's lacklusteryness rather than anything that Barack has accomplished recently.

Modern liberals - the two old guys in the balcony, Miss Piggy, Dr. Bunson Honeydew, and the go go girls in the band.
Classical liberals/libertarian - The sax player, Kermit, Animal
Neocons - Beaker, George the janitor, Sam the Eagle (Joe Biden)

The popular mind set is that conservatives want to force their thoughts and ideas on people, but yet it is actually the liberals that want to FORCE their ideas and polices on people.
Way way back in college I was in, I think, a finance or accounting class and the discussion got around to liberal vs. conservative, I stated that the liberals were the ones that were acting the way that the professor had just classified the conservatives, wanting to force their ways on everyone, and that the conservatives were much more tolerant than the liberals. I was laughed at told that I just didn't get it.
This was prior to me figuring out I was actually a libertarian, I believed as a libertarian I just didn't want to admit to being one. This was also before the neo-conservatives got entrenched and before I realized that the liberals & the conservatives, democrats & republicans were both the same.
Thank you Dr. Paul for making my act on what I already knew was right.

If you disagree with a liberal, then they assume you're an uneducated, low class, stupid, racist redneck who clearly doesn't know what's best for yourself.
This is what I find most infuriating about Obama supporters. They love to claim that "intelligent" and "educated" people prefer Obama which carries the implication that anyone who disagrees with Obama clearly does not have those two qualities. And then they wonder why this race is so close. Because carrying such a condescending attitude towards anyone with a different opinion is clearly going to win votes.
I don't like Bush, McCain, or the GOP, but their supporters tend to be a hell of a lot nicer and more humble than any self-proclaimed Democrat that I've ever met. They might not agree with your political beliefs, but they'll still respect you and won't immediately jump to the conclusion that you're an idiot for thinking differently. I think this is one major reason why the Republican party still wins lots of votes despite seven years of the Bush regime--not many people want to vote for the arrogant guy who acts like he is better than everyone else.

I totally agree with your assessment. I have found most (but not all...a rarity) diehard libs...and I was one! ...to be highly intolerant and judgemental...and I've all but given up on them. You cannot save everyone, but I guess they will finally be forced to wake up when they see the Faustian bargain they have made by voting for Obama. It's going to be such a shocker for them!
They are hard-wired towards socialism and what you told me before was very accurate...
It's hard to have a political discussion with them because they get so emotional and never delve that deeply into issues.
