Critical mass has just about been reached. With enough states not participating, the overall effectiveness of REAL ID has been compromised.

I just started thinking. I think the best way would be to cut the card, right through the chip and then just taping it back together with scotch tape. Tell them it is cut because you were not going to drive anymore, but then changed your mind.
Maybe they dont need it now
Now that passports worldwide are becoming biometric IDs the Real-ID may have served it's purpose.

From the Homeland Security website:
Under REAL ID Compliance, describing “benchmarks” to comply with: ‘Issuance of driver’s licenses or identification cards that contain integrated Level 1 (overt), 2 (covert) and 3 (forensic) security features.’
The digital watermark (digitally read chip) is required by the ‘COVERT’security features. (Covert defined in the dictionary as: covered over; concealed; sheltered; secret; veiled) Hmmm!
The (forensic) security feature is digital face, iris, recognition photos!

Well, I nuked my AMX card to see what would happen as they gave it to me with "speed pass" capability, which MEANT that all my info could be read from feet away without even swiping it. The thing IS that the metal strips ran through the magnetic strip. So once the metal was fried, the strip would not work either. You could try 3 sec. 8 was way too long. The thing is, once they have you in their facial recognition etc etc system, whether you carry a card around is sort of a moot point.
I was a Ron Paul delegate to the RNC, and we all noticed
that we had cameras shoved in our faces with square lenses---I can't remember seeing any McCain delegates being photographed that way--and some of the more tech-aware delegates thought they were facial recognition cameras! We were considered dangerous at the RNC, you know!
So they probably already have my digital facial image in the terrorist watch file.

Missouri has rejected real ID?
I thought MO was the "hub state" for real ID.

Also keep in mind Kit Bond and Clair McCaskill voted to bail out wallstreet, and Todd Akin voted against FYI
