New Hampshire Resident Within 1 Year
I am doing everything I can to stop the downward decline of USA to socialism but suspect the end battle may be fought in New Hampshire among people of my kind.

...by the Free State Project right now. I think this is a great idea. We need overwhelming numbers to wake up to take the country back, and perhaps a living breathing example of effective, constitutional local government will be the way to do it. There's no better way to convince someone of something's value than by demonstrating how effective it is.

The property taxes vary by community. Some towns aren't too expensive. Even without state income tax or general sales tax, the overall tax burden per capita is among the lowest in the empire.

Taxes
I was thinking today that without a sales or an income tax, our NH might weather better than those states that rely so heavily on these taxes for revenue. Obviously, if unemployment gets major and with sales down exponentially already, these states that lived to fat off the tax pig might get pretty damn lean fast.
states that rely on sales
states that rely on sales taxes are the ones that will get hit earliest and hardest - they are the ones that will have to go "on bended knee" to the federal government for assistance. In the northeast, MA, CT and NY will be crushed by the financial burden they have been created by their large state governments that are funded by sales taxes. NH is in much better shape in this regard for two reasons - relatively small state government and property taxes.
While I'm not a free stater, I've been to their website and they make a compelling argument for a life in NH. Check it out, then come on up!

I'm a life long resident of NH. The advice I've been giving my friends that live in urban areas (Boston, NYC) is to have a fall back plan. If the SHTF with the economic meltdown, the last place you want to be is in a city. I've been trying to convince them to at least buy land in NH. They don't have to move now - but if things get bad, they have a place to go where they are safe. And where there are plenty of Liberty loving Americans - most NH towns still have town hall meetings for heavens sake!
I see people on this site giving investment advice to buy gold - I say, if you live in a city - buy rural land. Have a place to go where you and your family can be safe. Gold won't do you a lick of good if you live in a city and there is rioting and unrest. Land will hold its value. Land offers you the opportunity to farm, hunt, log to sustain yourself.
There is plenty of available rural land in NH. If you love liberty and you're concerned about the future - consider NH.
wyoming FSP?
I am looking at the tristate area. Idaho, montana and wyoming. I agree that if nothing major happens this winter, and I think the jury is still out on that one......we are going to have to band together to get thier attention. I do think america is a sleeping giant. I also think whomever is behind this knows that too.....
if anyone lives near yellowstone, I am going to be making a run up there this winter. 4 weeks leaving around x-mas.
