Pleasantly surprised that Ireland is so high (where I am right now) - hopefully it has some basis in fact. I don't know if you guys heard but last Monday the Irish Finance Minister guaranteed ALL (no upper limit) Irish bank deposits. The limits had originally been €40,000 and then upped to €100,000. The latest move came as one or more Irish banks were in danger of collapsing - there had been a slow motion but ever intensifying run on the banks in Ireland in the last few months.
Canada has the safest banks?! Who knew?
i guess that's we're I'd be putting any spare cash if I were in North America.

Don't be a fool.
The best banking system is right in your own home and the only time you should lend or invest your money is when you know where the person lives and can look them in the eye. Otherwise you are just risking your wealth in the hands of "honest" men.

Get smart, will you?
ANY BANK THAT PRACTICES FRACTIONAL RESERVE LENDING IS LENDING AND CHARGING INTEREST ON THAT WHICH THEY DO NOT HAVE!
Try it sometime....lend someone something you don't have....let them create the secuity by signing for what you have lent them...then try to collect principal & interest from them....if they don't pay, threaten them....first to take away their stuff....then physically, by holding them against their will to 'work off' their debt' at less than minimum wage rates while charging them for the cost of their incarceration.... see what the 'government' would do to you if you tried.
The govt. hates criminals....they just can't stand the competition.
That said...'safe' is a relative term. If every depositor asked for their money back at ANY bank in ANY country, that bank would not be able to give all their depositors all their money back. Why do you think the banksters lobbied so hard to make it a crime to 'run' on a particular bank?
yes i know all of the above
but since we are not using silver or gold coins yet as a medium of exchange and people still need cash for simple transactions - people are still gonna need a place to store any spare cash they have left over after putting most of it into metals and food.
If you're living in North America people might like to know that Canada has the safest (yes i know it's a relative term) banking system.
That's it! The end.
Wow I would have guessed Swiss first
*bump
