Recession...NOPE, Depression Indicators...Volvo Truck Orders Down 99.7%
outputThe depth of the recession was revealed today as truckmaker Volvo admitted demand across the Continent has crashed by 99.7% as it took orders for just 115 new lorries in the last three months.
That compares to orders totalling 41,970 in the third quarter of 2007.

Good Christ! Didn't we *want* the market to work itself out?
When the bailout bill sprung up, nearly all of us screamed "No!"
We didn't want to prolong the credit bubble...we wanted the market to work itself out.
Well it turns out that the bailout bill won't prolong the credit bubble.
Isn't that a good thing?
The sooner the market works itself out, the sooner this credit bubble is behind us.
Did you not realize that the market working itself out means businesses going under and people getting laid off as the market works itself out?
Basically, this site seems hypocritical when it screams against the bailout bill AND screams about the market working itself out.
I'm betting people are screaming about the economy because of a sad sad premise: to justify all the Revolution talk of how the government is leading us to doomsday, they love to point out when things are going bad.
Well, let me say that this market correction, this credit bubble burst, is a good thing. Yeah, it will be rough for lots of people. People will lose their jobs. But in the long run, most of these people will learn to be more independent...these and many more will start saving more and trusting banks/government less...which means more people joining the Revolution.
There are two paths to the Revolution: the kooky path of conspiracy theories and the school of hard knocks. I'll take the later over the former any day of the week.

This is a depression, not a recession.
Unfortunate that our media is so dishonest now that we can't even hear hard economic facts--because the media is not just corrupt, but owned.

H'mmm
Not sure that volvo should be a gauge. I've driven semis and the thought of drivin' an ugly volvo turns my stomach. I have some pride, gee. Possibly more sickening than a Freight-shaker.
Carry On
Laugh, freight-shaker=freightliner, there known too shake=crappy ride!

Relevent.
For whom. I don't plan to buy a volvo stock anytime soon nor am I a share holder..
As for this being an indicator to hang the fact that we are in deep shit.. well yah. People don't put up survival posts because they are bored.
Oh and you're a dipshit.. I read your post about what of relevance should be talked about on the daily paul..
The freemarket of ideas should dictate the relevance of said topics.. So yeah didn't feel the need to bump your whiny ass thread.
Call me trollish or childish with that response.. I don't care. It's called my right to free speech and I am going to use it like it's going out of style cause I'm not real certain how much longer I'll have that luxury.

Banking crisis becomes economical crisis
German news over the weekend are full of dire news of car companies reducing production and planning redundancies. Daimler for instance plans a unpresedentdent five weeks christmas break from 11th of Decemer on. As an exporting nation Germany is to be hit first by the sharp decline in demand from the US. Though 'experts' now dare to speak of a recession, it all looks more like a heavy depression.
Please be nice and follow Dr. Paul's living example of kindness, respect and humility.
Freedom brings People together
The numbers that creep me out most is the 41,970 orders in the
3rd quarter. If thats any indication of just how many automobiles are currently in circulation- for all companies from all years- then...damn.

But I was at the store yesterday buying some munchies for a gold panning expedition and King Soopers had a big sign over their Mothers Cookies that said effective immediately they would no longer be selling Mothers cookies or certain 'Kroger' brands as Mothers was going out of business.
Sad. I really like Mothers cookies and they've been around for a long time. The depression is really about to start having an effect on things.

This kinda isn't the same
Giant Eagle used to carry my favorite hot sauce "Sontava;" damn good sauce. Out of nowhere they just quit carrying it. Company still makes the sauce, but I was pissed when they took it off the shelves. It was the only place in my area that had it. Oh well, I been planning on buying a case of it off the internet, get a nice supply stocked.
I'm sorry about your cookies.
I worked on the Mothers brand
when it was owned by Parmalat. I'm sorry to see it close. I loved those Taffy Sandwich cookies.

It's coming fast...folks, buy food and tangibles, because the hyperinflation wave will hit soon, especially after the collapse of US retail markets in the next four months.
We are definitely going into a depression, to be quickly followed by stagflation.

i've had my disagreements with you in the past...
that being said...you know, most of us here think that america is in trouble and have been saying so for a long time...
i just think, that for you to put a solid time table on it, it is just not appropriate...
the fed, the treasury, someone or something or some entity will manipulate it well beyond what we all think is the breaking point and you just cause everyone to grow weary by predicting time tables
isn't it well enough to say we are being manipulated, we no longer are in control of our free market system and someday, when all the "tricks" have been used to prop it up...it will fail?
...prepare!
O Captain, My Captain, rise up and hear the bells!
The only timetable I'm
The only timetable I'm putting is the crash of the retail sector, which is almost certainly going to happen in a few months.
You're right, though...there's a lot of manipulation behind the scenes that throws logic off.

I've fallen victim to these manipulations (when I've predicted)
when the free market would dictate otherwise. The thing is, these manipulations are propping up of markets, which cannot go on forever.

The case for Depression
Mike (Mish) Shedlock (http://globaleconomicanal...) makes the best case for the coming Depression that you're likely to encounter on the Web. Unfortunately, he fails to disclose who planned the Depression and why. Another financial guru who understands what is really happening is Karl Denninger (http://market-ticker.denn...). He, too, conceals the truth when he blames 'Greenspan Idiocy'. Greenspan is anything but a DUMMY when it comes to studying Depressions - and causing them! There are more shills in cyberspace than you can shake a schtick at.
