Hemp in our gardens

They should be growing hemp in Afghanistan instead of poppies. Who’s in control over there, anyway? We could benefit worldwide from changing the largest cash crop in that country from the opiates it produces now to food, fuel, paper, textile fibers and abundant uses for which hemp can be a resource. Let’s get out of that nation and trade with them as we reestablish our national currencies.

Why aren’t we growing hemp here in America? How is it that in the “land of the free” we cannot grow whatever we like in our gardens, smoke whatever we like in our pipes, burn whatever fuel we want in our own vehicles, and have our paper taken away through credit schemes? Can we not get the seeds? It’s time to make some rope.

Are we all growing hemp next year? We should cover this country with green in 2009 to show how resilient we Americans and our native plants really are. Eradication of our constitution and of the rights protected by that document(written on hemp paper) and its Bill of Rights merits the civil disobedience of growing hemp everywhere we can. States can grant licenses to grow industrially if need be.

Our states must establish their autonomy in the current political atmosphere. We the People ARE the States and we need an honest currency standard to trade with. It is Congrefs’ constitutional DUTY to set the weights and measures for our lawful money. If Washington fails to perform their monetary duties, the States really should take up the task.

Their gold and silver holdings can back hemp paper certificates of deposit for trade. Silver and gold certificates or lawful money(actual coin) would free us in so many ways. The Liberty Dollars group already has the right idea in motion. Coppercards is another outfit with the right idea. Certainly there are others.

New State monies can tie directly to the standards currently in place, with note denominations as low as a penny(or 1/100th oz. Ag) if need be, but would be much more valuable than their FRN counterparts, not to mention hold their value. A fifty dollar gold certificate(1oz. Au) would be valuable indeed.

The bottom line is we need a new cash crop in America and elsewhere. I know of one that will fuel industries. Fuel, textile, and food industries can be revitalized. Hemp, imo, is an answer we cannot afford to ignore. We need no subsidies, only seeds and the will to plant them. I hope that I may plant some with this rant.

Robert Taft

It's about abundance and scarcity

Hemp grows at such a dramatic rate it creates abundance and is hard to monopolize. Corporations need scarcity to manipulate demand and price.

The real reason it was abolished in1937 was that hemp was competing with DOW Chemical as the medium in rope production just before the WW2.

Had to allow introduction and profit of synthetic fiber and not cut into Mr. Hearst's fortune from timber and paper production.

beephree

still is a billion dollar crop....

Just not used for rope as much.

It beat out corn, wheat and cotton COMBINED as far as revenue. And that is just people growing it in their bedrooms, garages, and backwoods plots.

Lets just say that someone had some seeds....

Not that I would know anyone like that!!! Could someone give me some advice on how I should go about planting outside, untended to ensure that they have the greatest chance to grow and survive... SO I CAN PASS IT ON TO WHOMEVER THAT PERSON WOULD BE THAT IS CLEARLY NOT ME.

Behind the tomatoes in full sun

Don't know what your climate is like, my friend had hers behind the tomato plants, the leaves are somewhat similar. Early on nobody saw it unless it was pointed them to it. As it matured, it got about 6 feet tall and everytime there was a breeze, the aroma wafted throughout the yard. The plant, and the tomatoes, were fertilized with guinea pig litter. Not kidding. Worked like a charm. As the buds start to appear, cut off all the leaves as they are putting shade on the buds. You want more sun on the buds. Once the buds turn slightly orange brown, it's time to cut and dry. Dry in the shade with a slight breeze. Maybe the garage with a fan on low? This resulted in about 4 gallon sized baggies full of dried bud.
Here in New England, you have to cut the plant down to about 4 inches above root, pot it, and bring itiin for the winter if you want to keep the plant going for next year. If you need any recipes, let me know, I can ask my friend.

I think we're talking about Industrial Hemp

I remember on Sanford & Son

Grady had some growing in an herb garden, if it was kept trimmed down to around 1 or 2 feet tall, it would blend in pretty good with a couple of big rosemary plants, and some thyme, and a big sage plant or two.

Good info but

I was looking for growing tips to pass on, to a friend of a friend, for growing with no tending. Like where to plant, what conditions, time of the year, etc...

You know, I thought for a long time that the Libertarian Party overemphasized the drug issue..and I think until Columbine, they did. But now the issue seems to have dropped off the radar. It's perfectly ridiculous that marijuana, which is less dangerous than the weakest beer sold, is still illegal nine years into the Twenty-First Century.

What about hemp?

You can't even catch a low-grade buzz off of hemp and it's still illegal to grow if I understand correctly.

Hemp is too competitive

Of course we should be growing hemp!

I think the reason it's not legal today is due to corporate interests, which have fought it since the Thirties with the passage of the Marihuana Tax Act.

Hemp is such a versatile and viable crop that it out-competes others.

Hemp is a threat to:

Forestry (for making paper or fiberboard)
Chemical (adhesive for making paper from wood)
Cotton (hemp is cheaper and lasts longer)
Fertilizers (hemp doesn't need it)
Pesticides (doesn't need it)
Herbicide (doesn't need it!)
Plastic (biodegradable plastic can be made from it)

And can also be used for:

Bio diesel
Cement (of a sort)
Food
Rope
Fodder
Food

But thankfully North Dakota and Vermont (and maybe others?) have passed legislation to allow hemp farming. If enough states can do this there could be a chance to change the law at the Federal level too.

We could

start a sort of Johnny Apple Seed project. Maybe call it The Patriot Hemp Weed Project. Plant the seeds all over the country. Why is it illegal anyway? It's not like pot. Jeez. Did'nt they make Levis Jeans out of it years ago? I made some accents for my curtains with hemp cord I bought at a craft store. Is that illegal?

It grows wild

in some parts of Kansas. The county goes out and sprays along road sides but it keeps coming back.

Doesn't hemp start as weed?

Like the first crop or something?
I think we should all plant AK-47 all over the country and keep all male plants in yucca mtn

I've thought for many years

I've thought for many years that people should spread these seeds in the forest and plains and everywhere. Some kids at my highschool in the 80's spread MJ seeds everywhere on campus...lol...imagine the 'distraction'. Imagine if small cessna's would just open a door and scatter randomly small baggie after small baggie of MJ and/or Hemp seeds across the terrain? This idea has brought smiles to my face for years. They would not be able to keep up. If hemp was spread just as much...they would have a hard time discerning what was hemp and what was MJ...same stuff effectively...less the high THC levels in hemp. This stuff is a weed...imagine if people scattered small amounts slowly while out camping, hiking, fishing, flying(especially in small private planes).

LOL! They would go CRAZY...they don't have the manpower! The stuff would go everywhere ROFL!

Do you know what happens when
you give a procrastinator a good idea?
Nothing!

As it stands now

Hemp in your garden and you in jail......unfortunately.

Plant those seeds

-- wherever weeds grow. Mayor's backyard, public places, wherever you think the weeds will grow - get creative, but plant the seeds. Along the highway, at the golf course, whatever - grow it.
If you have seeds for sativa, ativa, etc., don't let them go to waste. Plant them! We NEED to have a GREEN 2009.
Cudos to those states who have opened the floodgates of FREEDOM and can already grow god's gift to humanity openly. They will be reaping the benefits first and others will follow.
A new(old) industry is coming to America. Let us be productive.
