Ron Paul Rachel Maddow MSNBC Interview

From the C4L site, Posted by Matt Hawes on 10/29/08

Dr. Paul will be on tonight with MSNBC's new hit host, Rachel Maddow. We still don't have an exact hit time, but the program begins at 9:00 pm ET, and we are told he should be on toward the front end of the program. Ms. Maddow is a fresh and clever voice on the National political scene and recently called Dr. Paul her favorite Republican in a New York Times interview. Should be a great interview!

Major correction.

Maj. General Smedley Darlington Butler was not a soldier. He was a U.S. Marine.

I didn't hear that in the video?

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

Reality Check

"What we had has scattered to the four winds. We were united under Dr. Paul and were a real force to be reckoned with. Now... some went to the Const. Party... some to the Lib. Party... others are running for congress..... All together their chances of achieving success are a lot less than what an Independent Dr. Paul Presidential Campaign would've had. Sorry Doc... you missed the boat on this one. You have always under-estimated US... We hear it all the time...
"I was shocked" "I didn't know if people were ready" blah blah blah...
Now our movement may very well be blamed for for puttin Obama in the white house. GRRRRRRRRRReat!
Sorry... I am just sick of this system and crave to support a candidate with some real guts that is willing to risk it all."

This is a point that I have notice very few Ron Paul supporters are able to cope with...that Paul ended up choosing party loyalty over his own message and legions of supporters.

Paul made some mistakes along the way, as everyone does. For example, he used the word noninterventionism instead of neutralism and thereby confused the mainstream and opened up a weakness for entrenched media to prey on.

But that was nothing compared to his hugest blunder - being so much of a Republican that he refused to run for office after the debates unless he was on the Republican Party ticket. This is despite the fact that he could still remain a Republican while running on an Independent ticket.

His supporters and his message have been betrayed by party loyalty and party politics. It's amazing to me how so many of his supporters are incapable of coming to terms with this.

I, for one, will not let my support of his message and his policies blind me to his love of party over his message.

"How many times does he have to explain the very real issues concerning ballot access. His Republican bid exposed him to millions of people...If he had tried to run as an independent, he would have lost his seat on the committees he sits on."

No one is criticizing Paul for attempting to be on the Republican Party ticket or choosing to be a Republican to start with.

What we are criticizing him for is failing to choose to run on an Independent ticket as a Republican after the debates were over.

By refusing to run unless he was on the Republican Party ticket, even though he could have still remained a Republican on an Independent ticket, he chose party loyalty over his message and his supporters.

And now we are no longer as strong of a movement as we were, as GalacticWacko mentioned.

Check that reality check

-- "For example, he used the word noninterventionism instead of neutralism and thereby confused the mainstream and opened up a weakness for entrenched media to prey on."

Actually when he was in the debates and McCain confused this with isolationist, it really gave Paul a chance to shine. And I don't recall seeing the media confused over this distinction. It got him on quite a few shows.

-- "This is despite the fact that he could still remain a Republican while running on an Independent ticket."

I do not think this is true. Texas has some kind of "sore loser" rule that the loser can't get back for his defeat by running again third party, at least without giving up your seat. Not all states have this rule BTW.

Some people are missing the big picture here:
- The Republican Party is weak now and will be weaker after this election when they go down in flames.
- Given this weakness they are ripe for a philosophical takeover/makeover. The Democratic Party was taken over in the late sixties the same way due to extreme unhappiness with LBJ. We can do it too.
- Third Parties never work. Ron tried it in 1988. So did Perot. You spin your wheels and get no where.

Believe it or not, and I say this with respect, Ron is smarter than you. And has a stronger will. He's been in this game for 40 years. He knows what he is doing. That's not to say he hasn't made mistakes, as you noted, but his overall game plan is spot on. If there is any weakness, as GalacticWacko mentioned, it is that he is not keeping his message fresh. He tends to repeat the same things over and over "I'm so surprised..." "Never thought we would get this far..." "Cured my apathy..." Karl Rove mentions frequently that you must keep the message fresh with new ways of saying things every day. Rove truly knows what he is doing and we could learn things from his tactics (while ignoring his neocon philosophy).

I cannot argue with anything

I cannot argue with anything you have said. But, even the Greeks had to invade Troy by sneaking inside the enemy camp in a wooden horse. That is our stategy even though this election sucks eggs.

Great Point Duff...

This is the reason I have chosen to remain a republican, (but also joined the RLC - republican liberty caucus). We are now working hard here in Pennsylvania to elect a Ron Paul republican for Sheriff and also a County Clerk who is a strict Constitutionalist.

Party loyalty had nothing to do with it

It's the third-party obstacles like inclusion in the debates and ballot-access. There may also be some reasons unknown to us that played a factor....but party loyalty? Since running as a 3rd party candidate in '88 he has basically raked his own party over the coals. He votes against his party all the time, he pointed out that they've betrayed their ideals....instead of supporting the party candidate for president, he publicly announced that he would NOT and even held a press conference to persuade others to vote 3rd party. The point Ron Paul has made is the same one Jesse Ventura made and the same one Ross Perot made: how can you win an election if you're not allowed in the debates?

"I killed the banks"

yeah...some other reasons...

i think he was an unwilling leader maybe because of threats and danger to his family or himself. not to mention possible unwillingness and pressure from family members concerned with his and their safety. perhaps the R3vO_ltion provided a buffer zone and strength to him and his message, but not enough to keep himself and his family healthy and safe enough. i will always have great respect and admiration for Ron Paul and his family and i will always be thankful for what they and the R3VO_ltion have given to me and our country!!!
God willing we can move forward quickly in the the right direction. we need to get rid of the traitors! get rid of all who voted for the bailout! end the fed! abolish the irs and all those who threaten life, liberty, freedom and the pursuit of happiness!

Fresh hot digg ;)

On the Rachel Maddow Show, Ron Paul, arguing for a return to truly conservative ideals, espoused the belief that Obama will not be able to bring the troops home from Iraq within 16 months, as the Democratic candidate has promised.

One big political blunder.

What we had has scattered to the four winds. We were united under Dr. Paul and were a real force to be reckoned with. Now... some went to the Const. Party... some to the Lib. Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

Don't be short sighted

How many times does he have to explain the very real issues concerning ballot access. His Republican bid exposed him to millions of people. While I hated his treatment during the primaries by the mainstream media, he is a media regular now.

If he had tried to run as an independent, he would have lost his seat on the committees he sits on. In case people don't know what those are

Committee on Financial Services
Ranking Member - Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology
Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation

Committee on Foreign Affairs
Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight
Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere

Joint Economic Committee

Frankly, I like knowing he is on those very important committees.

And finally, through the Campaign for Liberty, we will be positioned for the next election to get liberty minded candidates elected nationwide.

I know first hand the lengths the GOP went to to keep us out of the process. By the next time around, we will be the GOP and the rules violations will no longer be tolerated.

Our work begins after the Nov. 4 election. We are just getting started.

They Only Care About Themselves

Rachel Maddow and Randi Rhodes and Amy Goodman and Keith Olbermann were all against the Iraq War and never gave Ron Paul the time of day. Once he got out of the race and stopped being a threat to the democrats, then they are all friendly and acknowlege his existence.

This really pisses me off and makes me very suspicious of these people. They all have an agenda. These are not objective people and everything they say needs to be viewed in light of this fact.

so much Rachel bashing lol

my tent is plenty big for Rachel Maddow- I can only assume that alot of you are basing your estimation on her Network affiliation and her pro-Obama slant. If it wasnt an election year shed fit right in at the Daily Paul : ) (yes i realise thats a statement that can be picked apart- but the truth is there is more common ground than not)

Live Free or Diebold

Oops, he didn't promote Obama

As soon as Ron started dissing Obama you just knew the interview would end as soon as she had a chance.

THAT IS THE WAY I FELT......

SO DIDO!!!

How much more obvious could it have been?

Why is Rachel Maddow being so courteous to Ron Paul and allowing him to speak? Why is she talking about Chuck Baldwin and Bob Barr?

Just look at the title shown in the embedded video image above:

"Could Ron Paul be a spoiler for McCain in Montana?"

She's merely promoting Ron Paul to support Obama. On any other day, she would be ripping into Ron Paul and his principles.

Ron Paul's Convention Speech

Rachael Maddow...

I so agree with you... I just finished watching her take on Obama Interview. It was predictable, edited, and an hour long advertisement of Obama's scripted platform. He made reference (after Maddow's lead-in about the GOP) about a small "incompetent"... "subset"... "kidnapping" the GOP from within. I wonder if he bought the TV time on her show??? Her bias is quite in your face. At no time did she ask the obvious question about the legalities concerning his citizenship and his lack of response before the elections. He seems very much a man capable of fudging the truth and apparently is aided by many cohorts in the media and a governor in Hawaii.

influences

Rachel Maddow is in a system, that allows her to be a face on a tube. You can attack her, but you attack can attack forever. It's the not the personality, it's behind the camera that matters in a lot of respects. Have you ever heard writers, producers, and editors, and chiefs!- whatever title they choose. She works in a corporation, they rely heavily on credit, thus the Federal Reserve becomes their end.

It's the Matrix.

$$$$We need to build political strength and political will.%%%%%

Obviously this was her intent

But Ron Paul is too smart to be used, and he dissed Obama just as much as McCain. LOL.

I wish...

he would talk more specifically about the banking system and how they caused the current crises. Saying "monetary policy" just isn't sexy enough.

End the Fed:

The truth is easily spoken

:-) You are so right about the way Dr. Paul speaks. I've often compared him with european politicians. They are no different than Obama and McCain. bla bla bla..

Dr. KnoW sets an example for so many young people. Not just in the US. I've been following his campaign from the beginning and I cannot let go now. I've read the revolution A manifesto and right now I'm reading his book on foreign policy. REALLY interesting.

I'm hooked for life! ;-)

Keep fighting americans! I'm so impressed with your efforts.

Peace!

I despise the fact that..

They still accidentally label him a Libertarian.. Sorry pundits you've already done enough.. he's not going to be the Nominee..

Great interview none the less.

Wish it was him and not that Damn Albino Chimpmunk.

ha ! albino chipmonk rofl

Theres a scene in one of the austin powers movies where Dr evil is trying to show his teenage son that he is "hip" by doing this hella stiff macarena while making this "chikka chikka chikka" sound. Totally reminds me of McCain.

Yeah...He does look like Dr Evil

Dugg ;)

She didn't care

for the negative press on ObombA since part of the Liberal strategy has been to make out to be an anti-war hero of the youth.
But that's just what happens when you get an honest person on the show.

I've noticed that even though 3rd party doesn't have a snowball's chance, RP and the others are still very intense. This year we are sending the message that there's a new kid in town and in 2012 maybe we can really pull this off.

I love when

they let him talk .. and just smile :)

Thanks, Michael

Great interview .

Ron has had so many great

Ron has had so many great interviews latley.

NICE bump for liberty agenda

I agree with, shuleb; MADDOW is a die hard Obama supporter & led the DR. on with bait questions ...Ron got a good bump for the campaign, for C4L. PALIN did finally talk about the Constitution the other day ...Which is a result of final stage C4L action....Good job people....Overall this post reveals a bump for 3rd party......weee

She loves the Dr.

Great interview full of compliments. To bad she was not on the air last year.

Always good to see the boss.

Made my day.. I can go to work now.

I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...

Good to see she let Dr Paul speak his mind.

Ron Paul's interview

I felt that Rachael's questions were trite and rehashed. Her lead-in with Paul's choice "NOT to support McCain" deliberately leaving out his NOT supporting Obama either was transparently predictable. ...nor did she refer to his endorsement of third party candidates. As always, Dr. Paul deftly managed to outline his position anyway. No wonder other candidates do not want to debate him... He really is a master statesman. It will be interesting to see the quality of Maddow's questioning that desperately needs asking of Obama in his interview tonight.

One good point your analysis

Ron Paul is a master statesman! The mere fact that he has been calling into a field of corn for so long without anybody hearing him, accounts to his integrity. For many years Ron Paul was discounted, but he was a political animal, as this speech will attest. http://www.lewrockwell.co...

At this point, Ron Paul knows it's a battle of philosophy.

Kungpaochicken!!!!!We need to build political strength and political will.

Good points

You are right on the money. She was asking him questions that grew tedious 6 months ago. Try asking something new you Democrat hack.

Rachael, like most everyone else is a libertarian at heart

"Lead, follow, or get out of the way."
-- Thomas Paine

Socialist you mean?

Surely you aren't calling her libertarian? She's completely for Obama and he's just a hair to the right of Lenin. As far as I can tell, she's just another Progressive stooge.

McBoma, Fascist/Socialist Monster

It's appropriate, McCain and Obama represent the state, and so does every member of the member who latches to this party idolatry of the two-party system. One leans "socialist," then, what about fascism? The Republican Party has displayed itself throughout this Election Year many despicable facets of statism, I find it appalling! War-mongering, hate-mongering, based on racism. Which only restrains justice in a free society.

$$$$$$$$We need to build political strength and political will.

Most of my friends are libertarians

when it's not an election year... As the election gets closer they usually retreat to their red or blue corners.
