I was hoping to put McCain (& company) under a citizen's arrest Tuesday night, but after a long night of harassment from the Secret Service and the Biltmore staff, yelling RON PAUL during the speech was all I could do.
I hope you can hear it in the background. It was MUCH louder in person!

that would have been great. you have to belive me when I say that it was MUCH louder in person, but it was difficult to decide when to do it. It seemed like McCain began to address the most appropriate topic for me to yell it during (what the GOP could have done better), and I was trying to time it to where at least 'Ron' or 'Paul' would have landed directly in a pause in the speech. But I promise this will not be the last major event that I make a shout-out to Ron Paul at...
we need to get his name out there, butting the subject at hand off the stage and getting some attention for the cause of liberty.

A voice in the wilderness
It has been these lone voices when we were beaten down and discouraged that has kept the spirit of the revolution alive. They have been everywhere when least expected. The lone sign or voice in the crowd. The one speaking out with courage for the many.

So by trying to make a citizen's arrest, I was leading the way in an anti-apathetic manner. Most Americans probably don't know about their legal right to make citizen's arrests.

Amazing!
It never ceases to amaze me how frivolous topics such as this one have such a long life and attract so much attention while serious ones about such subjects as taking over the GOP and making a change in our present two-faced one party system seem to die quickly.
It reminds me of the early days of our Ron Paul meetup group, when all people wanted to do was wave signs and shout on the street corners.
I had to work hard to get them to see how to become members of the Executive Committee, how to go to the Senatorial District Convention, and how to get named a State Delegate.
Work is always harder than play, but in the real world it is much more rewarding.
If you really want Ron Paul or his ideas to prevail, get serious.

I found this forum after one of your members posted a juvenile call to "bombard" my e-mail address because I had the temerity to write an opinion column he did not like. That was irritating, but this attempt to disrupt a public event goes over the top. I am a libertarian myself; this type of behavior shames Ron Paul's supporters by association.
Childish antics do not legitimize one's politlcal agenda -- and entertaining this fantasy of perpetrating "citizen's arrests" on any politician for what you believe are crimes is just kidding yourself. It's this kind of crackpot nonsense that makes the rest of the movement look stupid.

A private citizen cannot effect a "citizen's arrest" of just /anyone/ simply because they think that person has committed a crime. This has nothing to do with who's in power and everything to do with due process. I don't care if you are trying to live out your ridiculous fantasies of righting wrongs and fighting for justice; you can't just assault people because you think they're guilty. If you read through my webpages and concluded that I am a "criminal" because you believe it, and then you tried to effect a "citizen's arrest" on me, you would quickly learn that people grounded in reality don't put up with these types of delusions.

Actually, any private person (does not have to be a citizen) can make citizen's arrest under Arizona law if they have reason to believe that some one has committed a crime. If you have any questions, please consult Arizona Criminal Code Title 13-3884-8. There are similar laws on the books in all other states except NC.

There's know doubt that the legality of the whole thing would hinge on whether or not I was truly justified in writing and serving the citizen's arrest warrant, but that was a risk I was willing to take. And like I've said, I had no illusions about this. I knew it would have ended with me being roughly whisked away by the SS, but I am pretty sure that at least a few of the dozens of live feed news cameras that were at the Biltmore would've panned over to the attempted arrest as it happened.

I was going to get his attention during the VIP part of the event, read the charges loud and clear (as a is required by Arizona law), and then get out my handcuffs and ASK him to please submit to my arrest. I wasn't going to rush up onto the stage mid-speech or anything like that.

Some truth to that
There indeed is some truth to what you say. But tactically, bad press does not help a movement that is supposed to be about freedom. It discredits us. The secret police often infiltrate groups and then do exactly the sort of thing this gentleman attempted in an attempt to discredit the movement. Don't play into their plan, please.
And philosophically, we are a "leave other people alone" movement. Putting other individuals in handcuffs is counter to that philosophy.

I don't accept the premise that my citizen's arrests would have been bad press, but in case anyone hasn't noticed, we are not getting press at all anymore. Something would obviously be better than nothing. We aren't going to get press by sitting on the forums and talking about how "Ron Paul can STILL win this election!!!!"

Ron Paul has been getting TONS of press lately
Where have you been? They've been interviewing him and Peter Schiff all about the financial crisis lately. He doesn't need negative stories about his whacked out followers to discredit him.
Considering the primary campaign is over and now the presidential race is over, he's been on a lot of news shows. We couldn't hope for more. Don't start getting twitchy just because they aren't covering him 24/7.
Well, I am about to become very unpopular really fast.....
...but I thought it was self-serving and juvenile. What did it accomplish, other than to make our enemies justified that we are a bunch of fanatical loons? Doing this to McCain, who had lost, was an absolutely pointless gesture. If you really had guts, you should have tried it at Obama's victory celebration.
Ron Paul himself would never sanction that his name be used in such a manner. He has too much class. You used Ron Paul's name for your own

As for the citizen's arrest idea.... I'm not sure if Ron Paul would've supported it, but I was not going to do it in his name. Think about Dr. Paul's responses to questions about 9/11 thruth, about what we should do if the government comes for our guns, and about whether you should pay your income tax or not. Paul consistently responds that people may make their own choice to do what they believe is best. He does not prescribe a choice to them. And my choice was to make a citizen's arrest.

But then you shouted his name during McCain's speech. Again, I asked, Would Ron Paul approve of that? You know he would not. He never would advocate disrupting a fellow congressman speech with such tactics, because he knows they would be self-defeating. Ron Paul has some influence to sway McCain, who, to his credit, has acknowledged Ron Paul as the most honest man in Congress. Why risk Dr. Paul's association with his colleagues by treating them in a manner that he, Dr. Paul, would never do? You merely make Ron Paul's ability to do what good he can inside the system, by encouraging his fellow congressmen avoid him, out of fear one of his fanatical followers like you will come after them!

By doing so, you confuse the conflict fighting over the person rather than what they stand for. This is the mud slinging tactics that the candidates engages in, so they do not have to stir up controversy over the issues that are at stake. We cannot expect to win over the opposition with just shouting "Ron Paul", we need to win them over with his ideas! And Ron Paul would be the first to tell you his ideas are greater than him.

Read the comments below by JP and myself. I think if this stunt worked it would be used to discredit Ron Paul's movement even more, so thank goodness it didn't get very far. I'm surprised they even allowed him in with all the handcuffs and objects he had on him. Frankly that seemed rather understanding of the Republicans, even too lax, to allow him to remain on the premises.
Maybe there was some other gesture or stunt you could have done that would not be seen as insane by Americans. One that wasn't so threatening to the safety of the politicians there. It was great to yell Ron Paul! That constant nudging that he is a factor is just what we need. But this movement is built on Ron Paul's common sense, and we don't need it coming off as unstable and insane.
Frankly, Arrest_them_now, you sound like a bit of an attention whore to me, but maybe this movement needs the odd attention whore to draw some attention to freedom. Diversity of strategy and tactics is a good thing after all.
