The Good Stuff
It's easy to see the bad stuff, with so much of it flying around. Harder to see the good stuff when we are so caught up with important, yet discouraging, news. We become so distracted with foreboding issues, drawn to it all like moths to a flame, that we sometimes can miss even the most wonderful nuggets of joy right before us. And that can become downright debilitating.
So this is a thread to post The Good Stuff. What's right? What's going well? What encouragement can you share? Tell it here. Even stuff that may seem to be bad, upon closer inspection and a choice to view it in a positive light, can turn out to be a blessing (or, if you prefer, good luck).
I'll share my Good Stuff story in the comments; you do the same.

Good stuff:
Peace, freedom, love. All the positive, caring, sharing, delightful and challenging people on this site and in the international freedom movement.
I wake up every day excited to see what I can do for freedom and what everybody on my favorite sites is doing too. Thank you all.

"Job" well done.
Congratulations!
I love these reports of new babies...now there's hope! And, of course, plenty of "change"...every couple of hours! ha ha :)
While my good news pales in comparison to the announcement of new life springing forth, I am pleased to mention that I have found a way to place my refrigerator *inside* my new little cottage! Huzzahhhhh!

I live in a small southern town with only one other person who is awake. If it had not been for the DP, I think I would have gone crazy!! True kindred spirits. Even with all the bickering, just like any other family. LOL!
I am new granny!
That is about as good as it gets!
And we are FINALLY doing what our little hippie hearts wanted to do way back when we met... live a simple life, get off the grids and out of the rat race. Not there yet, but at least headed that way again.

And we're catching up on lost time.
Solar electricity
Electricity generated by solar in the U.S. has doubled every year for the past eight years. If that trend continues for the next 10 years, in 2018 the U.S. will be getting 100% of our electricity from solar power.
Let's hope that happens!
Let's hope that happens! Good news for sure!
I can see that more and more Americans....
are finally realizing that the Federal Reserve needs to be abolished. They are realizing how bad it is for our country, and our economy...that is a great thing to me. I also see more and more Americans against all these bailouts, and shelling out taxpayer money to corrupt, and poorly run businesses. It is great to see people waking up, and speaking up. That is the Good Stuff to me. Remember, End the Fed on November 22, 2008 Rallies across the country in 39 cities.
Sunday was good:
This past Sunday I took my son to a friends place along side of a huge quarry and we spent the day riding miles and miles of fields and woods on quads. We hunted and watched beavers, and my friends son got his first dear of the season. An 8 point buck. Both of the boys are 14 and had a blast. So we shot guns and road quads and dirt bikes all day.
And he actually got some of his school work done this week. Yea, it's all good.

Good Kraut Beer and red meat.
On the farm in Hill County, Texas, my wife and I are enjoying some Paulaner, Shiner Bock, and Ziegenbock with some good grilled red meat tonight.
Texas may lack good weather, but by God! we have good food, beer, and culture. :)

Red wine and grilled salmon
The wine is cheap, but oh so good! Baked potatoes and a salad with apple cider dressing. Here in northeastern Iowa, it's 36 degrees with a strong cold wind from the NW. Not much culture here to speak of, but the scenery is beautiful. :-)

Kudos, and a further report
Thanks, freespeech, for your post below. I was really touched by your situation and how you found freedom and happiness out of situations that were likely challenging and disconcerting. Soon, I too will be enjoying organic veggies from my own garden. :)
Regarding your acknowledgement above to all the folks here on DP -- well, we've certainly said it before, but we can't say it enough: even when we disagree, we learn a great deal from each other. There is so very much to be thankful for here on DP, from the sharing of ideas to the challenging of ideas to encouragement to referrals and leads for helpful information...we all come together and offer up our individual contributions in order to help complete the whole puzzle. Even our dissensions serve to either strengthen our own convictions, or give us pause to give the topic at hand a second look, and consider a viewpoint we may not have otherwise considered. It's all good stuff.
Here's another good stuff item: my new place runs on propane rather than natural gas, so, my clothes dryer will have to accept propane. I called around to a bunch of appliance repair shops and got quotes from $110 to $170 to adapt my current dryer to accept propane. Yeow.
Then I popped into the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore -- kind of like a hardware store, but with products that were overstock items left over from building projects, or donated by one of the big box home improvement stores, or used items donated by local citizens. If you haven't yet been, you simply must check it out, as you can pick up items there for a mere fraction of the retail price. For instance, I found (and bought!) a propane-ready gas dryer there for $40.00; far less than the cost of adapting my current dryer!
I've also taken down the crusty, dusty curtains that were in the place, soaked & washed them with OxiClean (ah, is there anything OxiClean can't do?), and re-hung them -- they look absolutely beautiful. And I've added my fruit-label tin signs to the kitchen wall, to immediately give the new place my own signature "look" even before I move any furniture in, helping with the transition to the new home.
Often, it is the little touches that help make transitions easier. Bring along the treasured, familiar small items in order to help adapt to the bigger, maybe not so pleasing changes. Small comforts can bring great peace and continuity.
beautifuuly done
and thank you fanofwalt for your kind words. your story touched me as well and i hope to meet and chat with you in person one day as i do enjoy your posts

Positivity is contagious!!!
A couple of points to add to this awesome post:
1) Communities will be empowered
2) People will begin to live within their means
3) People are becoming engaged
4) Libertarianism is on the rise
5) Dr. Paul and by proxy the Daily Paul are now a household name.

my good news
my dog licked my face and wagged her tail- she is SO beautiful!!
my dad and i finally agree that his family(wife, her kids, grandkids etc.) can have family traditions i.e. thanksgiving and christmas without me, my 10 year old paid for honda accord is running perfectly, i learned how to live on child support and am able to do what i feel is important which freed up my time(by not working) to spend all of it with my kids AND don't pay income taxes, i learned what true love is at 39 years of age and 2 years later(now) it is still true so i am still celebrating, i get to watch the sun come up every morning sipping coffee on my back deck, my friends are completely honest with me (so what if there are only 3), i get to eat organic veges out of my garden, i have no debt other than a mortgage and most importantly (drum roll please) i'm proud of who I am and how i live.
i am truly blessed

We've had one of the most beautiful
lengthy autumns here in Colorado that I can ever remember. It was nearly 80 degrees yesterday and today with bright, sunny skies. That is a powerful mood enhancer!
Also, I listened to Joni Mitchell's "Court and Spark" CD today and heard it in a way I wasn't able to fully appreciate before. She has got to be one of the finest examples of how a creative, sovereign individual is able to manifest their brilliance. She's a musical genius and a timeless artist who sang of freedom and self actualization long before I woke up to the message.
Also, I had the privilege of seeing The Singing Revolution at the local film festival. It is amazing, and unbelievably inspirational. A must-see for Ron Paul freedom-fighters. You can watch it (in 10 parts) on YouTube.
glass half full
I suppose the way you view life is the way you view this.
I am under the impression that the market is falling down to the "real" value that it should be at and THAT is a good thing.
Consumer prices are crashing down to levels that should be at. GOOD
Politicians are being rounded up and getting kicked out on their butts for their dishonesty. GOOD
The country is about to undergo a cleansing that will make it a better place to live. GOOD
I suppose if you focus on the things like McDonalds is open, Dancing with the Stars is still on and I have gas in my car, it could make your day a little brighter.
crazyrustyforpresident
a kindred spirit!
I am accused of being a "glass half empty" kind of gal at times, but what people don't understand is that I see a "full glass" as having nothing left to gain, and the half empty glass means there is room for something to pour in...
Yes, my glass is half empty, but I realize it has the EXACT same amount as the guy whose glass is "half full." While his ability to be content is a good thing, my desire to seek something to fill it up is one of the forces the drives me, makes me who I am.
And I am good with being "half nuts" too - lol!
thanks so much for this post
Seems today I was really needing something good to think about. I think all of us can handle bad things for awhile .... but after awhile, it gets old. And I still have a job and a house. Think of the ever increasing folks out there who don't.
Good things....
1) I still have a job and a house
2) I have a decent number of supportive friends (but who are still pretty unaware of what is likely comng)
3) I don't live in a city
4) I know someone who works at Walmart ... in case supplies on shelves get really low, might be helpful to know when any new shipments are coming in
5) Because of Dr Paul and all you good folks, I have learned so much, and have been able to at least prepare a little bit ... extra food, firearms + ammo, heritage seeds, able to find recipes for homemade solution for hydroponics (growing foot without soil), etc.
6) We have a network that we can go to, and also bounce ideas off of.
Well, OK, my good things seem rather selfish ... but they are what I can think of right now. I just want good things for my country, also ... because that's what we all deserve as good people. I guess that is what's making me sad ... that evil and greedy people can drag down such a great country.
Happy News!

Gas is 1.40 in my town.
I think it has the reputation of being the cheapest in the nation, by virtue of constant gas wars.
Tulsa???
?
No, Wyoming
and this week it was 1.20. I needed good news, as I broke my kneecap and big toe this week.
best wishes
for rapid healing.
Good stuff
1) Gas is $1.79 by my house
2) Ron Paul on the front page of cnn.com
3) Ben Bernanke admitted that inflation was a tax
4) Americans are saving money finally
5) Gasoline will be mostly obsolete in 20 years, we can finally tell OPEC to go shove the oil in an orifice of their choosing.
6) Only 2 more years until we can retake the GOP
Well I must say I like your optimism.
I am curious as to what you think will get us off gasoline or oil for that matter?
Electricity
Battery technology is finally going to be there. I think the major leap has been fueled by laptops, cell phones, ipods and the like.
With the recent work at Stanford into Lithium Ion technology, the weight to power ratio is finally going to surpass that of a internal combustion engine, now it's just a matter of time before they can get mass production moving and make the technology cheap enough.
The auto industry in the states is already moving in that direction, with GM's and Chrysler's reverse-hybrid offerings (2010) and with Tesla and other startups pure battery powered cars.
The cell phone and laptop manufactureres are going to help drive the price down, because although it's tough to imagine the average Joe paying 100 grand for a car, an extra 1k for a laptop that will run for 20-30 hours before recharging is well within the reach of the average consumer and especially the average business client (you could read email all the way from NYC to Tokyo).
You're about to be blown away by the advances you're going to see in the next few decades in materials technology. It's well documented that HUGE leaps in society take place when a new material gets discovered (bronze age, reinforced concrete, silicone) and nanotechnology type advances will make the semiconductor boom seem small.
Carbon nanotubes are only scratching the surface, it's soon going to be commonplace to build materials molecule by molecule.
It'll save the auto industry, the airline industry, it will put the space race into serious overdrive, and it's going to remake the engineering/architechtual industry.
Close your eyes and think of a material lighter than aluminum and stronger than pearlite (the steel they use for aircraft landing struts) and think of what a room full of engineering geeks can do with it. We're living in an exciting age.
Ripe for a bump
We're very effective here at sharing information to warn about and prepare for the worst, and for that, I am truly thankful. But, the doom and gloom does seem to overpower the encouraging and strengthening posts. I'm thinking today's another day when this thread could use a little nudge. Your good news, good thoughts, and empowering words are most welcomed.
We're buying new (new!) tennis shoes today, to have good, sturdy footwear to help keep us nimble through whatever may soon come our way.

Counter Attack!!!!!
It's been a hard news day. Let's balance it with some more good stuff news, shall we?
I got one, but I don't know what to do with it: since we found our "little house on the prairie," our current landlord has just (confusingly) (surprisingly) (mind-bogglingly) offered to let us stay at our current home...yes, despite how far behind in rent we are (answer: a lot); and here's the kicker: he has even offered us a reduced rate, as in about a third off the usual rent. Huh??
Stay in my beautiful home, and pay 1/3 less for it? Tempting...
But I'm afraid that, despite the cramped conditions and the challenges the new home presents, we'll stick with our plans to forge ahead. I still have no idea where I'm going to put my fridge (there is literally NO place for it in the cottage's kitchen, I kid you not), but to give up a water well, propane gas, and land to farm on now, after everything I've come to know and considering what's yet to come...well, I don't think I can pass on the Green Acres transition. If only I could place this house on that land. =}
Now...anyone know if/how I can safely run a refrigerator on an uncovered back porch?
build a little greenhouse around it, and let it be your heater
I can't believe you did not think of that yourself, you are pretty dang crafty!
Lean to...
"If the frig has to be on the back podrch, why not just build a little lean to around it to keep the snow/rain out? Shouldn't cost too much......
Way to GO Fanofwalt!!!!
I am so happy that you decided to move forward with your plans for "Green Acres". You will be SO happy you did. Not only will you look back on this little cottage with fond memories, but your CHILDREN will ALWAYS remember this as not only the best time of their lives, but the best character builder they ever had. And one day when things turn around and you are living in a larger place entertaining your children and grandchildren, your kids will tell stories of this little cottage and how much they loved it. What a wonderful way to start the week!

Would you be able to put the
Would you be able to put the refrigerator where the stove is? If so, then you can use smaller appliances that you can cook with. Meanwhile you can figure out how to enclose the porch for future use.
Realdeal! Brilliant!!
I'll have to measure it out to be sure, but that is a fantastic idea! The range that's there is pretty small, so it might fit against the one remaining wall (where the fridge wouldn't fit). What's more, I was going to have to leave my OTR microwave behind, since the cabinets above the cottage's stove hang way too low, but, if I place the range on the open wall, I could easily install my OTR microwave there above the stove, which would also provide a vent for cooking!
I can hardly wait to go back over to the cottage and measure it out! Hm, I would have to route the propane line for the stove over to that other wall somehow. But if this works, I will stick a little sign on my fridge that reads, "Indoor refrigeration courtesy of Realdeal!" :D
If that doesn't work out for you:
I just thought I would let you know that I just last week sent an old refrigerator to the scrapyard that sat on the carport, functioning, for over thirty years. Yes, it was very old and in fact, no one believed it even worked. But work fine it did. It was all rusty and just plain nasty on the outside, but the inside was clean and held good food for more than half my life. So if it has to be out there, just keep after it a little and it will be fine.

If this doesn't work, refrigerator should be fine
on the back porch, unless you live in a really cold area. (below freezing a lot) You could build a shed roof over the fridge to keep the rain off.
:-)
I really hope it works for you. And if the range doesn't work on the other wall, you could always grill out.
Bump for good stuff
Fellowship of the White Rose
More good stuff.
On this cold windy fall day, my husband just left with our two dogs to go pheasant hunting. The house is clean, a pot of chili is on the stove, and I am going to get off the computer and watch one of my favorite movies, made from one of my favorite books of fiction. And thanks to quiltingsando, while watching the movie I am going to pick up where I left off and start hand quilting a quilt top that I made before discovering Ron Paul in the summer of 2007.

Here is my good stuff.
The way I see it is, The rapture seems to be at the door, that's when the believers in Christ meet him in the clouds and we gain our spiritual body. After the rapture occurs the 7 year Tribulation begins. First there will be 3 1/2 years of world peace along with a one world religion( as in we all pray to the same god bunk we have today) followed by 3 1/2 years of war culminating in Armageddon. At that time Jesus with his church will come to earth (the 2nd coming) and put a stop to it all.
The world will not end, only the age in which we live. After Armageddon Jesus and his followers will rule on earth for 1000 years. This 1000 years I believe is the chance for non believers to accept Jesus as Savior. After the 1000 years Jesus and the church will be set up in the Kingdom of the new Heaven and new Earth. That being said THE EARTH WILL ALWAYS BE HERE! Just not the corruption we have on earth while sin has an influence over us.
