I don't like it

I don't like the new changes to the official website. You start to read something and the whole thing jumps. You can't finish what you're reading!!

If I were a first time visitor it would be tooooooooo annoying. Besides, Dr. Paul doesn't shift positions every few seconds.

Does anyone else agree?

While we're at it

It's pretty easy to print to a .pdf page. So the flash thermometer widget could print out a pdf file with the donor name and amount of the counter at the time of donation, plus the whole pic as a .pdf file, which could be attached to the acknowledgement email that you get after you donate.

Not that hard to do and it would be a nice touch.

Play pause added - so they're getting better

A bit user unfriendly, needs some explanatory text, maybe bigger, etc.

Did you see it? Little button to the left of the Flash box (lower left)

Or maybe...

No rotation, but the "Who is Ron Paul?" tab as the opener. The money tab or any other would be easy to switch to.

I think it would be much

I think it would be much better. The money thing should be still linked on the main page (or maybe left menu) as a little clickable banner, maybe with actual amount displayed (so that it's HIGHLY visible for the first time visitors). But I agree that the money tracking is not the most important things on THIS (official) page and shouldn't be that exposed on the front page.
But I guess they (web agency) know better anyway...

I like it. It gives first

I like it. It gives first time visitors something substantive to read, besides how much money he's raised.

"I am a friend of the Free State Project. Check it out...and if you like it, join and continue the effort!" -- Rep. Ron Paul

This is my take as well.

This is my take as well. People should think less about their own convenience as regular visitors to the site, and more about newbies and how effective the site will be at peaking their interest.

"We should have a strong president -- strong enough to resist the temptation of taking power that a president shouldn’t have." --Ron Paul

I think a quick solution is

to slow the rate at which the banners rotate.

The ads are power hungry though so maybe a straight HTML site is wise or a simple home page that allows high or low bandwith selection.

I don't think it's good. I'm

I don't think it's good. I'm a long time visitor to this site and supporter of Ron Paul, but finally created a user account after having not been to the official site for a little while and seeing this thread and update to the site. I'm computer and internet savvy and didn't know why it was flipping through randomly at first. I have an old computer and am able to lug through the flash just fine, but it just seems like terrible practice unless you're running nba.com or something. just another 2 cents

I think this good be good

...for people that arent very internet friendly....its almost like putting the page on auto-drive.....its perfect...forces people to be interested and it catches your attention nicely...

No, No, No. I would agree

No, No, No. I would agree that the new design is good only if I could get it to stay on the ticker if I want it there. I like to watch a couple names go by every now and then (especially after I donate). How do I do this now????

EDIT: Hey, did they just add that play/pause feature? If so, better.

Better would be pause by

Better would be pause by default... Play by default is always wrong. Let people decide...

Wanted to add that

I think szczebrzeszyn is correct about being sensitive to the requirements of dial up users.

Well, you could set it up for the advance to be interactive

So you could have a little box that says - "move to next topic?" Yes

So then a person would know that there is something new to see, or else they could just stay put.

I like the concept...

I would really like to have the people I send to the site see something other than the money ticker rolling by. They should see somethig related to his stand on issues or other bits of information about the Good Dr. I agree that they might be able to do it in another way, but think it's important that the initial hook is meaningful and not just about money.

Well, just do not redefine

Well, just do not redefine the web. That's how websites work, you have a menu with meaningful captions and you go through it if you want to. That's what people are used to when on the internet. I don't see any reason to change their experience with some auto skipping. Unless you treat your visitors as total internet newbies, who hardly know how to use a mouse...

Agreed

I was just trying to say (maybe I didn't do so well, it's late) that I like the concept of not having the focus of the front page always being about how much money we've raised. The only thing I would add to that though is that there are lots of folks out there, people we need to reach, that may well be "internet newbies" to a certain degree. Older folks in small communities for example fit this description in many cases.

well maybe we should look at

well maybe we should look at the fact and keep in mind that there are some old people and newbies out there that are not very internet friendly....like my grandmother...i can see how it would be good for her...we gotta look at the big picture...i think its a good idea....and something very minor indeed..

It's a simple webpage, not a

It's a simple webpage, not a new application or system to learn. If your grandmother has a problem with webpages, I hope you'll educate her on that :) And for us, 99,5% of visitors they should make the site experience as good as it was...

Good luck

Do you work with older folks very often? Have you ever tried to teach your Grandmother or Grandfather how to use a computer? I have. Sometimes we forget that 25 years ago none of this amazing internet technology was even available. I'm only in my early 40's and can clearly remember when none of this existed.

There are different older

There are different older folks. Some know a lot - I know about a grandmother that used to play Quake a lot, but probably most of these people have nothing to do even with computers (I don't even mention internet). I believe, that people who browse the internet at least 'know something' about it. Otherwise they wouldn't be here at all, right? I also believe, that Ron Paul page is for 99,9% not the first page they visited in their life.
Annoying the majority of site visitors is not a good way of balancing the site experience in my opinion. Maybe they should make some redesign or put some banner at the top to help people move to other issues. Or add a small movie at the top as a guide. But the way it's done now is a no no. Even me, a webdeveloper since 2000, was a bit lost at first, when the menu was 'clicking' itself. Which, with a dialup connection, was a total mess.

Well heard.

Thanks for putting some time into that. :)

GO RON PAUL!!

turn off by default

I really liked this page, but the person who made the decision on this should be fired. This is the same low level as music played through flash by default and similar annoying web stuff.

It really gets worse, when you're on dialup like me. This flash doesn't take it into account of course, so while the image is loading, the tab is switching to the next one etc.

Ask them to turn it off by default or something - they have lost 1 visitor for now (me), as I don't like when somebody thinks he knows better what's good for the web visitor and HOW HE SHOULD READ HIS PAGE.

Sorry for my English, I'm from a far away country.

I love to see the European

I love to see the European support for Ron Paul. It makes sense, since much of Europe is in a downward trend similar to the US, from a libertarian perspective (even worse in many respects).

You may find this interesting: http://politicalcompass.o...

It looks like most of the Western world is currently in that upper-right quadrant, along with the US. Where the world needs to be is in the lower-right (in my humble opinion). There are a few down there, barely, but that should be taken with a grain of salt; anyone who has looked closer at those countries, as I have, will understand that the placements on that chart are relative (it's not as though they aren't still heavily taxed and socialized).

Your written English is excellent, by the way. :-)

Welcome

Are you from Poland?

yes

Poles should recognize this username hehe...
I've been following Ron Paul while he was not even officially running for President and I think (and I'm a web dev myself), that the company behind his official page did a good job, especially with the flash tracking donations - great idea. But this last quirk is so annoying... I hope they'll fix it.

whowouldtheworldelect.com

Was just checking this site to find that several other countries such as England have finally gotten on the Ron Paul bandwagon. Seems that Poland has known about him for a long time. I think that some people cast their vote too soon and are going to wish they could change it! I guess the surge is due to the money bomb and the press that it has given Dr. Paul. Thanks for the support.

The problem here is, that we

The problem here is, that we hear only about Hillary or Rudy, the so called top-tier. I'm not sure I've ever read antyhing about RP in local press/web. Or maybe there was 1 article mentioning him (the main topis was different though), because I can remember now the comments filled with a few 'ron paul revolution' snippets, which really surprised me :)

Oops, replied to wrong post

...

I dont like it either...

Honestly, ever seen a movie where the director is cutting every 2 seconds... it gives you a headache and drives you crazy.... I liked it the way it was it was like looking at a chi-ching slot machine!!!!!

I also do not like the auto skip

I find it annoying that it will shift off what I am looking at. There is a play/pause button at the bottom, but it would be nice if it were on pause as a default, just about the time the numbers stop scrolling it switches, this is drastically annoying.

Use Rollover or Balloons for switching of topics on the Flash

Also, please keep the screen from jumping up and down.
You dont realize what just happened. But it does take your focus off what you were looking into.
That is not what you want when people are coming for the first time.
It even bothers me, a long time supporter.
Also, keep the Donor Flash on top....this is one of the reasons people (esp. new people) are coming to the website. They want confirmation of what they have read/heard on their own. The brutal honesty of the donation is just wonderful. Please dont change that.

But every aspect of the graphics and text layout is BARNONE the best of the best ....top notch.
Please DONT change anything there. Ron Paul Please!

How you gonna see

your name when you contribute?

The four (4) banners are on rotation

I agree that it takes a minute or two to adjust, but once the viewer realizes that the same four message banners repeat, they can wait till they scroll around again, several seconds, and then "click here to read more".

Change and dynamics are VERY important on a campaign site so that the viewer always gets the impression that there is daily activity. This generates both curiosity AND allure which are positive emotions. Politics is all about EMOTION. Most voters don't really care about the issues and vote based on who they like or on the prevailing wave of their peers.

Also, campaign sites need to keep the grassroots activists motivated, and regular change/dynamics is optimistic.

Just imagine

You are 70 years old. You wear bifocals. You are on high blood pressure medication that makes you dizzy. You usually only use your computer to play bridge.

I don't think this person is going to hang around long enough to figure out what to do.

tell me ur post was meant to

tell me ur post was meant to be ironic ... pleaaaaase !!
(cauz I'm laughing and i feel bad)

Just click on the bar on the left you want to look at

All you need to do is click the button on the far left of the page... 12 million videos positions etc... and it stays on it till you click again

Like it!

Like it!

I like it

It's more informative, colorful and professional. Before it was rather boring. This is more of what newcomers need to see. Just my opinion

not TOO bad...

I agree with your point to some extent. I think they were trying to take all the attention off just the money aspect, and trying to feature other parts of the website.

There probably is a better way to feature the main issues of his platform without switching the "banner" if you will every 10 seconds.

i agree...

get rid of the scroll...

people will check the other areas out on their own....

I agree

I don't like it....It is probably great for a first time user, but as a older RP supporter, it is annoying because all I want to see is the $$$ going up! So in saying how I feel, I guess that it is better that it does switch away from the money count. Even though it is annoying to me, it may be better for a first time user.
