Ron Paul: Hopes for the Future
by Ron Paul | Texas Straight Talk
November 10, 2008
With the election behind us, our country turns hopeful eyes to the future. I have a few hopes of my own.
I congratulate our first African-American president-elect. Martin Luther King, Jr. certainly would be proud to see this day. We are stronger for embracing diversity, and I am hopeful that we can continue working through the tensions and wrongs of the past and become a more just and colorblind society. I hope this new administration will help bring us together, and not further divide us. I have always found that freedom is the best way to break down barriers. A free society emphasizes the importance of individuals, and not because they are part of a certain group. That’s the only way equal justice can be achieved.
We will face more tough economic problems during this new administration. In fact, the worst is yet to come. A vast amount of problematic mortgages have not begun to reset their variable interest rates and go into default. We already have unprecedented deficits, spending is out of control, and more big industries are coming to government with their hands out. My hope is that this administration will handle this economic crisis better than the interventionists and big government spenders of the 1930’s, the bureaucrats that prolonged the Depression. I hope that new government programs and spiderwebs of red tape do not pop up to interfere with American productivity, and that we can quickly get our financial footing again. We have to understand that an economic correction needs to take place and the only way out of the coming recession is to go through it. Efforts to avoid it can only prolong it. I hope we can somehow find our way back to sound money and reject corporate cronyism.
We cannot address our budget problems at home without changing our disastrous foreign policy abroad. I am hopeful that the new administration can take on the mantle of peace and diplomacy in foreign policy that many Americans feel they were promised. Many other nations also have this hope, which exudes from their congratulatory sentiments offered after the election. They hope that national sovereignty will be respected. They hope that through diplomacy violence and war can be averted. I hope so too. One thing is unquestionable: our aggressive foreign policy of the past has been costly, in blood and in treasure. Our treasure is running out, and fewer volunteers are stepping up to enable that foreign policy. So for these reasons, if we are to continue to have an all-volunteer military, and see prosperity again in the future, I have every reason to hope our foreign policy will change. In order for it to remain the same, mandatory military service would have to return, as well as accelerated theft through debt and inflation to pay for it. I have a hard time imagining popular support for these policies, simply for the sake of war and conquest, when we clearly want peace.
I have many hopes for the future in this time of transition. But I have seen this country face many forks in the road, and sadly take the wrong one too many times. We have heard a lot of talk, and it remains to be seen what actions and specific policies that talk will translate into. So while I may be hopeful, I remain deeply concerned about our future.

President-elect
Because he LOOKS more black than white, in my opinion.

First African American?
While this is true it is only half true. I will refer to him as the first inter-racial president of the United States. Why ignore half of his bloodline?
That ain't Texas straight talk
And I have to agree with others here about Dr. Paul making this kind of statement. I would have preferred he say nothing at all about the "first African-American president"...blahblahblah. God in heaven, can we stop this nonsense!!!!!!!!! This is the same kind of pansy-ass, wishy-washy BS that got us here. Dr. Paul knows what this means for us! It can be nothing other than a complete disaster and he congratulates the dope from Illinois on taking the office of President??????? As my mother used to say, "If you don't have anything nice to say, (and the truth in this case would not be 'nice'), then don't say anything at all."
Sorry, Dr. Paul, could not disagree with you more!
Barrack is asking for more
Barrack is asking for more bailouts.
bump!
"Time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country"
Sounds like
a diplomatic message to the Obamanites. Perhabs he likes the idea of Strangebedfellows http://www.dailypaul.com/...
Fellowship of the White Rose
The only REAL "Hope for America" WAS Ron Paul.
"I remain deeply concerned about our future."
The ending line of Dr. Paul's statement and the unfortunately the REAL message here.
Yep
Somewhere in hell, John Maynard Keynes is laughing maniacally and dancing a jig.
Obama is not black
He is equally white and black. Why are we only emphasizing half of him?
"There can be only one permanent revolution - a moral one: The regeneration of the inner man."
—Tolstoy
Ironic
The ironic part is that they could have had a much better president who is a full African American. Someone like Alan Keyes, Walter Williams, or Thomas Sowell. I'm not saying it is vital or necessary to have a black president or anything nutty like that, but if they wanted a black president so badly, why not pick someone more qualified to run who would actually help the country.
God bless this man...
Dr. Paul is a true Messenger of Peace. Barack H. Obama is a disgusting war-barbarian. I cannot share in Dr. Paul's hopefulness for the Obama Administration to be anything but a continuation of Bush (that is Bush's true legacy after all—that the policies of his Administration will continue).
And I also disagree with Dr. Paul in this one instance—just as an African-American acquaintance articulated to me last night, Dr. King would be ashamed of war-monger Obama and stand in opposition to him and his War Party.

Sorry Dr. Paul, but I disagree as well
Dr. King would have also been ashamed of the racial pandering we saw over the last year. There's nothing wrong with being proud of your racial heritage, but constantly using it as a political talking point goes against the "do not judge by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" message.
Thank you Dr. Paul.
Thank you Dr. Paul.

Action is what defines men
Thank You Dr. Paul
Prior to hearing Ron Paul speak this year I was apathetic, which is another word for feeling hopeless, in regard to obviously corrupt politics in the world.
Dr. Paul stands out among other political figures as an honest man who speaks from the heart...so incredibly refreshing in the midst of so much insincere rhetoric, manipulation, and lies. Thanks for educating all of us, Ron Paul, and for being a shining light in our midst.
Reading between the lines
I don't believe he holds out much hope. Yet, we must trust in God and in the goodness of the American people, not in the power brokers who will always serve themselves.
.
Yes. At the end Obama didn´t make any decisions yet till now as president.
So, if there is any time to hope, then now.

We need more "Ron Pauls"
Not just in office, on this website and everywhere else.
He speaks the truth without becoming strident or offensive.
And notice that he does not stray into a lot of controversial irrelevancies.
There are many obvious and inarguable truths to talk about that are all but ignored by the mainstream media.
Dr. Paul relentlessly stays on message.
We would all do well to learn to communicate (and THINK) like this great man.

When Truth hurts
...if we are to continue to have an all-volunteer military, and see prosperity again in the future, I have every reason to hope our foreign policy will change. In order for it to remain the same, mandatory military service would have to return, as well as accelerated theft through debt and inflation to pay for it.
I think this was the point of his entire message
bump for emphasis.
Congressman Paul...
This man will eventually be regarded as one of the greatest statesmen in the history of this Republic. Ironically, he came to prominence during a time when we had great need of one of this stripe... only unlike previous statesmen, the masses did not heed the call to action. They were so blind, he hardly caused a splash.
This is a man I would love to have come to my house
and have supper, I just want to give him a hug, and I am not a huggy person. It is just every time he opens his mouth it makes sense, and you can tell his honesty overrides any ego or ulterior motive any could subscribe to him. This is just a good man.
Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.
Thank you
Ron Paul
Dr. Paul leads the way with positive hope,
realistic concern, wisdom, and guidance.
Thank you Ron Paul.
Thank you Ron Paul.
Self righteousness is a disease
I am glad Dr Paul posted this ... and I hope the cynics out there take this message to heart (though it doesn't seem so so far). I have been saying this for some time myself, because I need to remind myself, as I am a bit of a cynic/pessimist at times too. Everyone wants to change things, but only if they get EVERYTHING they want. Let me know how that works out for you.
It's easy to look at the bad. But we must look at the good as well. Obama won states that are primarily white. He had gang bangers who have never thought of anything better for themselves standing in lines for hours hoping for a change. Young people that never cared about the political process took notice.
The fact is this man had brought together people from all walks of life in a way that no one has ever done ... and not just here, across the world. It is really an unbelievable accomplishment.
How many of the members here are uneducated about the real horrors of slavery and how truly bad blacks have been treated in this country for 100s on 100s of years ... even 'til this day? Because they do not require you to read about this history in schools or encourage you to research it yourself. It's easy for us "whites" to not understand what it means to have a black president because we were never persecuted for hundreds of years the way blacks were.
When you stop and really look at this moment without concentrating on this globalist agenda and the doom ... you will see he has already brought about HUGE change in people's thinking of how we think about each other. He has brought about HUGE change in their interest in the political process. HUGE change in the apathy of the people and enthusiasm of people to carry out change. As mentioned before there are people who have never thought anything of themselves that now have hope that they may be something.
I love Ron Paul as much as anyone here, and believe in his message 100%. But now is not the time to push Ron Paul on the people. Now is the time to embrace the first black president and push his (Dr Paul's) message of freedom while people are really open to listen and believe change is achievable. Now is the time to step up and join the rejuvenated people in our communities and start rebuilding them regardless of what they believe. Many who voted for Obama want peace and want our troops home as well. Join with them and lets write to Obama to get our troops home. Many are scared of food shortages and robberies. Lets use the unity Obama has created and know our neighbors. Lets grow some crops and do other things together where ever we can and have a community willing to protect one another. Lets expand the unity. Is this not the base our founding fathers had? Without you will achieve NOTHING. I personally don't care what my neighbor believes if we care enough for each other to look out for each other.
Look only to the negatives and assume the worst and you will absolutely condemn yourself. We should only be looking for the positives and exploiting those. The negatives we cannot control. We can make lemonade though. If you give up on something every time it doesn't go exactly your way, you will not get anywhere. I can attest to this. And let me know what kind of relationship you have pushing your wife/husband or girlfriend/boyfriend to agree with you on what is the best way to do everything that needs to be done.
Everyone says "Support Ron for 2012!" ... sure I will ... but I am not going guarantee myself this site or all of us will be here then ... but I can do something NOW with the people who are excited about change. I can get to know them and hopefully rub off on them. But nothing will get accomplished if we don't do anything or have a negative attitude all the time because it's not happening exactly how we want it. I already know some of the responses I will receive with this line of thinking ... that's if anyone even takes the time to read it. But I can hope someone ( if just ONE) will read it and maybe believe I make some kind of sense and helps them in their own thought process ... that will be fine by me. I already know there is only one who can judge me (two if I include myself). So ...
Dr. Paul hopes ... and I hope too.
And most important, I too thank you Ron Paul and thank all the people who try to be a man/woman in the same regards as Dr Paul, religious & political and other beliefs aside. I hope we can all come together because it really is the most important thing we could ever do.
