YOU SAY YOU WANT A REVOLUTION - Look to the 60's and see what it's gonna take!

I am often amused at people who talk about a political revolution but then dismiss the 60's as a flawed and inferior effort. Many have swallowed the MSM myth that portrays it all as sex, drugs and Rock n Roll - Oh to the contrare!

If you want to see what it's gonna take for people to stand up to the Federal Government and make it bend to the people's will - look to the 60's. It took millions of people over a decade, demonstrating, marching, staging boycotts and sit-ins, burning draft cards and direct confrontations with those in authority. In fact many were injured, some killed and some even set themselves on fire.

Comparing the current RP revolution with the 60's, I'm afraid most have no idea of the long and winding road ahead and what it's really going to take! I hate to break it to you but to match the 60's, the numbers and outrage must grow 10-fold to bring about the change you seek.

In the words of Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

It's amazing how so many of the lyrics of the 60's

are coming around to ring true again!

Back then

the msn reported it, now they hide it.

Now is the time to JUMP-START the campaigns for 2010 and 2012.
We didn't lose. The ignorant lost. We know what has happened. Personally I think John McCain Has been used as a patsy. To bring about an Obama administration.

I think you are right on all accounts

!!!

The war lasted for 8 years...

We had not been "attacked" by anyone on home soil...there was a military draft of our young men ...and over 60,000 Americans lost their lives in the jungles of Vietnam...many came home disabled or on drugs...it touched almost every family and town...
Apparently the war in Iraq hasn't become as devastating, or as personal, to the American public yet...the government is keeping it to a simmer...until it comes to a full boil (as in the 60's) the masses will not pay attention

I agree -

I've been trying to subtley hint that for a while. People like armchair activism more than the physical. In Vegas, a giant, lively metropolis, the Ron Paul marches were pathetically small. The folks in these videos here had no internet to distract them and contribute to making them fat & lazy.

Look what's happening out in the streets
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Hey I'm dancing down the streets
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Ain't it amazing all the people I meet
Got a revolution Got to revolution
One generation got old
One generation got soul
This generation got no destination to hold
Pick up the cry
Hey now it's time for you and me
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Come on now we're marching to the sea
Got a revolution Got to revolution
Who will take it from you
We will and who are we
We are volunteers of America - Jefferson Airplane

You might want to use a little more tact.

Your posting is very good. I'd just like to throw in my 2¢ worth. :]

I prefer to teach by example with some verbal adice thrown in here and there. I lived in Long Beach, Calif. throughout most of the 1960s. But most of the people accessing this site are no doubt younger.

Intentionally or not, you're actually doing little more than destructively criticising people for having "premature aspirations" (for lack of more accurate terminology).

The principle reason I access this site is to teach by example, as it were. If written advice is in order, I stand ready, willing and anxious to give it. But showing by example is always preferable.

Younger people will make mistakes (just like older people). But the mistakes, by all likelihood, will make them a lot stronger. At any rate, everyone has to grow at his or her own pace.

One thing about my logic; it almost always sounds logical.
Secret key to happiness: Stay happy. Shhh!

A little more tact? Possibly so

I was actually responding to a poster that was extolling the virtues and superiority of the RP revolution and at the same time running down the 60's and how flawed that revolution was. I thought a little wake-up-call was in order.

However, I agree with you post and thanks for the video!

probably the biggest factor that lead to cultural shifts in the

Fortune Favors the Bold

sixties was the baby boom. The same boom that will screw us with the entitlements. You had a huge group of people all becoming yound adults and adolescents at the same time, outnumbering the "grown ups" who had all the power, politically and culturally.

Note however, that despite this, even with the draft, young people did not vote in substantial numbers, and Nixon won beat McGovern quite easily.

The boomers represent approx 25% of the population

you can't win an election with that, but if you recall Nixon was forced to resign.

In the context of this post

this would be an excellent movie to watch

USvsJL U.S versus John Lennon..

Most might know it... it is about John Lennon's life but contains a lot of relevant references.

It's not easy to do the right thing....

I'm impressed by your conviction and dedication to the truth.

(as a showman I would say always keep their attention with as much dynamics and flashyness as you can, remember, most people are part of the t.v. generation.)

Keep up the good work. Let the truth dictate what is right or wrong!

hmmmm

You are so right. We are going to need alot of drugs to numb the pain. If we play our cards right the gov. might pay for it. duuuuu.
Seriously I hope you are ready to stop spell checking and .....

I have an idea

And I am going to post it Monday morning here on Daily Paul (when there is no football or other weekend distractions). It has to do with the 60's and 70's and how that energy may be rekindled. Stay tuned.

The draft was a huge factor in uniting

people against an unpopular war. And there were so many factors that created a freethinking, optimistic spirit we don't see today. Experimental lifestyles, enthusiasm for peace and fellowship, exploring world religious and cultural ideas, all captured people's imaginations; an explosion of creativity and of course widespread experimentation with marijuana and acid created an illusion of no limits, until the eventual sad effects set in.

But the positive aspects gained enormous popularity -- even among the MSM, the movie industry, the music industry. After the 60s many felt the world changed forever toward peace and freedom, and grew complacent. Then like an incomplete course of anitbiotics, the totalitarian, war-mongering germs in government quickly reestablished and grew exponentially.

We haven't yet created a major popular trend to pull people into the freedom movement this time around. (though the early Ron Paul R3VOLution with its blimps, optimistic enthusiasm, and grassroots creativity had real potential.)

In the 60s it was mostly emotion and happy feelings, as with the Beattles, with little reasoned substance. There was a small determined corps of communists, and people experimented with all sorts of communes that mostly failed. Russian and Chinese militancy and their repressive regimes turned people off. With no real understanding of freedom, the 60s radical movement failed.

While our enemy is bigger and more totalitarian now, there are way more of us educated and articulate in sound freedom principles. The task is enormous, I hope you'll all hang in. With truth on our side, and the internet, we have a chance to keep a lasting love of liberty alive in the world.

Absurd

The lengths we will go to have our politicians uphold their oaths and actually do their jobs--representing the people.

Who do we think we are?

"There can be only one permanent revolution - a moral one: The regeneration of the inner man."
—Tolstoy

this may upset a few people

but i kind of see us as as the conservative hippies.

yah. don't like that analogy? well, too bad. the parallels are endless.

It took a military draft...

and Communist Jews to propel the antiwar movement of the 60s. The antiwar movement then was viewed sympathetically by the media. Now, however, the Communist Jews, who are largely Zionist, are largely on the other side. Since Zionist of all stripes have 100% control of the MSM, there's no way to effectively recreate the nonviolent civil disobedience of the 60s.

Read Dennis Prager's discussion of Communist Jews at JEWISH WORLD REVIEW and you'll see what I mean.

Most communists are right handed!

You used the words Jews, Zionist, and Communist repeatedly. Communists have done a lot of bad things. Zionists may be problematic. Jews, however, are good and bad like the rest of us and should be evaluated on an individual basis - like the rest of us.

That's my point!

They went to the all volunteer military to avoid the protest. Currently the total RP movement is probably around 10% of the size of the protest movement of the 60's. It needs to grow about 10 fold to make a difference!

Hey, Jude ...

took my Yellow Submarine to the Albert Hall to see how many holes it would take to fill it up, but Rita, lovely meter maid, gave me a ticket and I couldn't finish the count.

I did some protesting in the 60's myself in San Francisco, but now that I'm older I would consider going into the streets, but I need somebody to say to me "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to help get me out of there if the military shows up w/their death rays, or whatever other evil weapons they have in store for the American people who say they Wanna Start a Revolution because the Constitution provides that we must in times like these! Back in the 60's we could get away w/a lot when protesting because we were so good looking, that we were so hard to see. You had to be there!

We need all the Help we can get to save our nation, but it's going to be tough when we take it to the streets or Penny Lane or the Long and Winding Road, because this ain't the sixties no more dealing with Yesterday's government.

I know that sitting around feeling like I Am The Walrus and not doing more is making me nuts, but we need a plan. So, Please, Please, Please Me and each other by coming up w/up something before time runs out! We all sure could use A Little Help From Our Friends.

Well you obviously know the songs of the 60's

Nifty post!

PS - Do you do yoga, I just started! Any suggestions?

Don't do Yoga ...

sorry. But, yes, I am a Beatles fan!

“That’s All Right (Mama)”

I enjoyed your “Magical Mystery Tour” explaining “Why We Don’t Do It In The Road”.

“Fixing A Hole” requires we prepare to contend with the new “Fool On The Hill”, not much different than “Yesterday”.

Many believe “We Can Work It Out” by following an inscribed “Abbey Road” to uprising, and that the “The Ticket To Ride” is “Happiness Is A Warm Gun”.

Well, “I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party”…but in my opinion, “You Can’t Do That”.

“Hey Bulldog”, “Do You Want To Know A Secret”…“Ask Me Why” … “Because” “From Me To You” “I Want To Tell You” “Something”: – “REVOLUTION” is more than a lyric, or a title….it has never been a formula as if this is “All I’ve Got To Do” to be “Free As A Bird” in “Strawberry Fields Forever”.

Here’s the hidden Beatle message ( and we don’t even need to play it backwards to decipher):

“Think For Yourself”

When enough of us can “Carry That Weight” the “Chains” will fall.

The hippies went mainstream

The long road ahead that was traveled then is the one we're on.The radicals of the 60's became the party hack democrats in power now. The way to the top is from the bottom. Take over your local party. The Plumber

Not McCain's

Jo "the plumber"?

I think it will take a long

I think it will take a long time to take over my local GOP. This is an almost identical look at my fellow local republican members.....

Really!

The 60's

We are much more sophisticated today but so are our oppressors, They always seem to be a step ahead of us.
We have always underestimated the machine and we still do.
In the 60's we didn't really know who the enemy was, now we know it is the federal reserve and the global bankers, unfortunately in the interim, they have learned that much more about us.
We get tired of the fighting, they never get tired of the fighting.

they have our money to buy all the

weapons imaginable and hire others to do their fighting for them.

I ask

Do Bush, Cheny and the rest of the crew looked worried to you?

Do you really think Obama would

allow the kind of demonstrations that we had during the 60's? I was living in DC during that time. I think Obama would direct his national security force to take care of the demonstrators, one way or another. I think any demonstrations would be stopped.

Nixon activated the national guard but

the people marched anyway! People were put in jail and killed but that didn't stop the movement!

November 4th 2008

A COPY OF ORWELL'S 'NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR' SENT TO EVERY MP

An Internet grass-roots campaign will this week deliver a copy of George Orwell's prophetic novel 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' to every Member of Parliament.

The books will be inscribed with the words, 'This book was a warning, not a blueprint', and will arrive at Parliament on or before November 5th -- a date of well known historical significance for that building.

Outraged by the continual attack upon civil liberties within our nation, a fortnight ago the Libertarian Party proposed reminding those in Westminster who they were elected to serve, and in whose interests the laws that they pass are meant to function.

Anybody hear how it went last week?

This is an amazing idea ~

vincebodie, colognepaulist and I reeeeeaaallly like this.

Wondering if the r3VOLution could take up this idea...I'd be happy to donate to a chip-in or moneybomb to send books to our traitorous officials...!

Whaddya think?? We need to get back our creativity, for pete's sake...

From Vince to me nov 5th: The bloom will be off the rose real fast, and our message will win out in the end. If you want to renew some of your old energy, take a look at what the fledgling Libertarian Party in the UK just did, and remember that they've only been around since Jan. '07 (not sure if you saw my post on the DP about this):

I think sending books certainly couldn't do any harm,

Do you really think they will read them or even get the message they have arrived.

I like it. Since Nov. 4th,

I like it. Since Nov. 4th, it seems like there is no clearcut focus. I am the type of person who likes a short termed goal. And this goal has all the symbolism of our past history making money bombs.

doesn't it just?

And this goal has all the symbolism of our past history making money bombs.

I give Vince credit for bringing it to my attention after I scraped myself off the post-election floor. Nov 5th was not a good day, to say the least.

We seem to be a shadow of our former selves with these forum posts...question: how long can raw chicken stay in the fridge? ...I appreciate the humor, but are ya kiddin' me?

The 1984 idea sounds fantastic and yes, realdeal, right up our alley.

I think this idea needs its

I think this idea needs its own post. It's too good to let it fade away.

Yep, I agree...

I'll email someone as we speak and make a suggestion...

Unfortunately, many of them were communists

And they went stealth. Why did Bill Ayers get a pardon??

Would I get a pardon if I did the same exact thing today??

Remember the 60s'

Now I may not have existed in the 60s' and I'm very young, but looking back at history it seems that generation accomplished extraordinary precedents: boycotts, protests, demonstrations, etc.. The government was truly fearful of the people and I admire that, Now my generation, unfortunately seems to jaded to start a revolution. They're mostly interested in trivial pursuits: cellphones, money, television, etc... The government right now has made the people to docile to enact a revolution. But I have faith another revolution may come around similar to the 60s'. Until then remain vigilant and start convincing more people to wake up.
