75% saltpeter 15% charcoal 10% sulfur (BY WEIGHT)

You can easily get saltpeter, it can be found in hardware stores as potassium nitrate and or sodium nitrate for preserving meats. If you are really industrious, which we may need to be at some time in the future, you can go to this website to find the procedure:

Now, you can find sulfur in small quantities in drug stores, but to get the necessary amounts you will have to find a good source, if you live close to a railway you can usually find sulfur in those areas. It is relatively cheap if you have to buy it however.

Now, for the charcoal, you want to use real charcoal. The best way is to get any hardwood or softwood, even branches will work, put them in a metal sealable barrel, a 5 gallon metal drum will work, then begin a fire around the drum, keep it stoked and in several hours, depending on the size of your wood load, will consume all the volatile oils and you will have perfect charcoal.

When you have all the ingredients, then you want to grind them individually to the specific fineness you desire for your final recipe. After you have achieved the final fineness of grain in each other the ingredients, you then and only then mix them together in the above proportions. Store your recipe in water-tight containers, away from any potential flame or spark.

You now have the perfect BLACK POWDER!
