BREAKING UPDATE: On November 25th, 2008 the Hempstead 15 were vindicated by the Justice system of the United States of America. All charges were dropped against the veterans and civilians that were arrested during the Presidential debate. This is a victory for the veterans, the civilians that took place in the protest, for Lady Liberty and the entire USA. Thank you to everyone who has followed this story, for sending your support to the troops, and for calling the Nassau County Police Department and the district attorney. YOU MADE THE DIFFERENCE!

I sincerely hope we see some criminal charges against the "peace enforcing officers" involved in this! And many many civil cases against them. This is, in my opinion, where the civil disobedience needs to start. We need to get out of "free speech zones" and get FREEDOM OF SPEECH back. Needing a permit to protest and assemble is total raw sewage!
Not quite a triumph
I am sorry to be a downer, but I can't help feel that this should never have happened in the first place. If we can believe it's a victory that they didn't deprive those brave protesters of any more of their civil rights, then we really are living in the USSA. I am so happy that they were let go, but this doesn't address the injustice or the criminal conduct of the police.

Will the police officer who used his vehicle (the horse) to run over the veteran be charged? I sure hope that there is some sort of civil suit or prosecution in relation to that.

Would be interesting to dig into the legal history of the jurisdiction to find the proper thing to charge him with and the appropriate penalty.
Back when horses (and drunk riding!) were common I'm sure "rider rage" and the resulting running down and stomping would have been common enough for some laws, trials, and precedents to have been in place related to it.

Now that the innocents have been acquitted, can we go after the bad guys? Especially 1. the "officer" who used his horse as a weapon.
2. the detaining police who arrested and held severely injured vet Nick Morgan without medical care for so long.
They should all be sued, jailed, and fired.
When are we getting the money bomb going for the veterans
kicking ass for us. Let's get it together here. Should it not be obvious who we can support now that Ron Paul is out of the question, duh? How about supporting some vets.
