Rep Louie Gohmert (R-TX) proposes that the income tax be suspended for 2008, possibly longer.

Income taxes could be completely abolished and still our "governments" could operate with 100% efficiency (inefficiency?) - and all the while giving the citizens a rebate to boot:

I'd love to be excited about this too, but to me it smells of 'bread and circus' while the evil overclass plans its final blow. Perhaps a 'tax holiday' will lead to a new currency or complete fiscal meltdown (in which in wouldn't matter anyway).

The Fed just prints more money, anyway. Why not give us a break? I hope more MSM stations carry this story.

I think if this can gain momentum. If this gets passed people will grow used to not paying income taxes. That is why they had a hard time passing them the 1st time. Lets get behind this and push.

It would be irresponsible to suspend taxes without massive spending cuts. However, this idea would give us an opportunity to put a bright spotlight on what the Fed does: print infinite amounts of money and devalue the dollar.

Dr. Paul has been saying this for years! Could they be listening?

If they suspend the personal income tax, I will go back to work. Until that happens, they can't force me to work to support their corrupt system through the personal income tax.

I do not know much about him , but he speaks my language about taxes. This is long over due.

As unconstitutional as the income tax is, suspending it right now might be fiscally irresponsible. Im not sure what I think about that one. The fed would need to make huge cuts immediately to make that work.
What Id -like- to see is government tightening its belt as we tighten ours. But instead they will want to GROW government which is ridiculous in this economic climate.
Would a halt on the income tax for a year help convince the fed to shrink a bit? Not likely.. they dont get the idea of small government.
Would it help to advance the cause of ending the income tax altogether? Maybe..

Gohmert is my rep. He cast the deciding vote on the CAFTA treaty after a 2hr meeting with Bush.

I'm not buying it. Not because I like the income tax but because of the overtones this reeks of: condescension.

We are in a huge financial crisis- everyone knows that.

People are hurting for money- we all know that too.

Come Spring, Caesar will want his due, and the people won't have it. What little they do have will go to take care of their family, and they'll tell uncle tax-man to go fuck himself. You can't squeeze blood from a turnip. The result would be IRS intervention and Ed Brown cases springing up like fresh flowers.

This is not a way to help the people so much as it is a way to placate them and keep them from getting nasty next year.

It's mighty nice of him to propose a plan telling us we get to keep the money that belongs to us in the first place, but I respectfully give him the bird. The income tax goes altogether- no compromises, no suspension. I'm not fucking stupid.

If we get a number/name of a bill, that's something that those of us on the local level can push to our reps. As much as I enjoy the DP, I prefer to be "in the field" working on stuff like this.

An elected Republican who actually talks about dealing with the Income Tax..I can't believe it. I thought Ron Paul was the only one.
