Things I like about this video
Things I like about this video:
- They are actually allowing a different viewpoint on TV.
- Rand Paul is knowledgeable about the figures and stats.
- The socialists look VERY uncomfortable whenever Rand starts talking, especially the one sitting next to him.
- He seemed to win them over by the end in many ways.
I love it!
Hello Friends
Hey. Check out my vlog at www.darkdownhere.com It's got hundreds of hours of original and unique content that you are unlikely to find elsewhere. Thanks

Wow! Very Well Done.
Thanks so much, Rand. That was very well done.

liberty yields harmony; tyrany yields chaos
I can't watch these types of discussions
It just makes me sick to my stomach when all these so-called moral grandmas have something to say. Why did people in this country allow to get to this point?
Even though Rand is kicking ass with his cynical way of talking it's not gonna do much good. Most are retarded and that's why we're doomed.
To redkhmer: Perhaps you're
To redkhmer:
Perhaps you're doomed because you physically are unable to tolerate opinions of others especially "when so-called moral grandmas have something to say". I guess they made the mistake in thinking the constitution allows them the right of free speech too. Grow up!
As Voltaire said "I may
As Voltaire said "I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".
However, it doesn't mean that these 'moral grandmas' are wrong, wrong, wrong, but maybe he feels that they should be opposed at all costs!
They can say what they will...but comments like yours serve to discourage redkhmer's speech by saying he is a no good free speech hater because he has shared an opinion/speech that dislikes these socialist grey hairs...shame on you....and burn in Hell :P

With all due respect, a little more humility might serve him well. I've not heard this man before but I thought he was verging on obnoxious when he "chimed" in with his views even when the question was addressed elsewhere. He doesn't strike me as being a team player albeit his content, I'm sure, is worthy of audience.

Talk about a chip off the ol' block!
Another soft-spoken straight-shooter -- Congressman Paul must be proud.

Something mighty special about that family. Maybe it's the fact that
they don't think of themselves as "special."?

Draft Rand Paul
Not only does he have the same values as his ol' man, he's got the same brains, is younger, and has better speaking ability. This guy could go all the way! And I'd trust in Rand more than any other substitutes should Ron Paul decide not to run.

"Kudos" for posting this video but it's really important for supporters of liberty to hear all the opposing arguments so we can strengthen our own. Rand Paul did an okay job but he made many mistakes and I think if you see his clips in the context of the entire discussion you'll take notice of them and hopefully you'll learn from them. Andy Hightower does a wonderful job. He seems to understand which arguments will appeal to people and which won't. Dr. R. Paul should work on that.

thanks for the link to the original!
He's Good ...
... but not quite ripe! Or maybe he's too libertarian for me.
I am all for subsidiarity: "This tenet holds that nothing should be done by a larger and more complex organization which can be done as well by a smaller and simpler organization ... This principle is a bulwark of limited government and personal freedom. It conflicts with the passion for centralization and bureaucracy characteristic of the Welfare State."
In a few words, it means most government should be local.
That said, if a community desires to live in a "brothel free" zone, and the people elect like-minded politicians, so be it. If they want to encourage close knit families and discourage Sunday shopping (big box retailers with their crummy low-paying jobs requiring employees to work Sundays), it's their community and more power to them.
Every law legislates morality. Just because certain illegal behaviors (breaking and entering, murder, etc.) may be painfully obvious immediately, it doesn't mean that other behaviors ... just because they're done "privately" (viewing porn, gambling away every penny you family has to live on, etc.) ... don't have evil consequences which will one day be borne by an entire community. It is, therefore, in the interest of the community to legislate against these destructive behaviors. But, it should be done locally,
Rand's idea of not legislating morality, will lead us back to the Wild West! I, for one, don't want to go there.
I like him, but he's not his Dad.
It's ludicrous to talk about him running for President. His father should run for President.
If I'm going to vote for a presidential candidate with no political experience, I'd rather have Chuck Baldwin.

I agree with you, but I also think
Rand is awesome, and someday he will run too.

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it." -- Joseph Goebbels
I hope you're an exception to the rule ...
but I find that most people who are chafing at the bit for a libertarian state have visions of living a totally selfish, materialistic, immoral lifestyle WITHOUT having to pay taxes.
Or, they naively believe the libertarian (utopian) hype but haven't thought things through to the only possible conclusion: chaos followed by a police state.
Which describes you?
Only responsible citizens who practice self-restraint deserve a free country ... and they're the only ones who get it.
You Simply Can't Regulate Morality
We developed quite well during western expansion. How is a constitutional republic "chaos?" . . . . You're setting up a strawman of extremism which has nothing to do with what I said.

"Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it." -- Joseph Goebbels
You're right ... about morality ... up to a point
But you can't give immorality carte blanche either, which is what a pure libertarian ideology demands. If loose living is permitted, it won't be long before it degenerates in debauchery (mankind is subject to original sin ... man can rationalize anything he does as being a "good" and he can ignore the bald-faced truth when it smacks him in the fact IF it doesn't suit his purpose -- we in the RP movement should see this more plainly than others).
If you want a sustainable civilization, there must be modes of good behavior that the society encourages and modes of destructive behavior it discourages.
Want to end a civilization quickly? Promote immorality (contraceptive sex without consequences) which begets the breakup of families (no fault divorce), bring children into the world where they have no father figure, no security, no safe home life. Warehouse them in daycare centers (so mom can work) or let them roam the streets. Then send them to government schools where they teach victimhood, immorality, etc. You know what you get? Misfits ... very angry adults who are incapable of sustaining a family relationship, or raising a new generation of responsible citizens ... BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GIVE WHAT THEY NEVER GOT! Two or three generations of this and pretty soon life starts looking like the movie, Mad Max.
This country has gone from soup to nutz in just over 200 years. And, it's been sliding into the toilet for at least a hundred fifty of those years (during the time we still had a "constitutional republic").
You say, "we've developed quite well during western expansion." How so? What is your definition of "quite well." I'd say we stole a lot of land from Indians, the Spanish, etc. Of course, we'll never know what might have been, had we been more moral in our dealings, but we've been told ad nauseam that "we are swell ... our system is the best ... why, we're actually GOOD!" Well, read what you put at the bottom of your posts cause I think you've swallowed a whopper.
We are now the vassals of the ruling elite ... they are currently stealing every last bit of the meager wealth from the people of this "grand republic." They are immoral, ruthless, and murdering slobs who have convinced themselves that there is a greater "good" in all of this. Too bad our society didn't make people live up to a higher standard than these schmucks achieved.
You may want to live in a do-over republic, but I'll take a civilized, sustainable society any day. Remember the definition of crazy ... doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Sounds to me like you're
Sounds to me like you're confusing society with government. Society can have "modes of good behavior that the society encourages" without any government.
This becomes more clear when you see how much the American people freely give to those in need (outside of the tax system and in addition to all the taxes they already pay) .
btw, doing the same thing over and over again is big government and tyranny.
4GodinVA belives Big Brother can get it all straightened out
4GodinVA,
From your post I read that you don't believe in the goodness of people. You don't believe that if people are left alone they will do good. You think that they will do evil. You think that society will spiral down debauchery and lawlessness without the control of Big Brother.
And this is very sad that you think so. However, I have news for you: you're wrong. People are generally good, I have seen it many times during my life and I have seen it in human history.
Once you realize the whole world will open up in front of you. Once you understand this you will find out that the rest of your long post is filled with erroneous statements, all based on the assumption that humans are intrinsically evil. Then you will realize a big TRUTH: that humans do not need Big Brother.
Big Brother has destroyed the harmony human beings have with each other and nature. Big Brother has turned us into mistrusting creatures. And this mistrust has built up over thousands of years of Big Brother at the helm. Examples of Big Brother sabotaging harmony and piece in the world are:
World War 1
World War 2
War on Terror/drugs/cancer/poverty etc.etc.etc.
Big Brother has created the biggest misery there ever was.
Big Brother wants you to think that humans are evil... so He can come and "protect" you. Big Brother does not want to think that humans are good because then you will realize you don't need Big Brother and Big Brother will lose his job of running your live or throwing you in the meat grinder whenever he pleases.
Free your mind of Big Brother and then you will see the light. The light is not safety or security or money or health or ... whatever. The light is FREEDOM.
Look up the definition of SUBSIDIARITY
Big Brother is the very thing that subsidiarity checks.
And yes, I do think that most people will opt for what they believe is in their personal best interest, neighbor be damned ... not every time, but often enough so that we devolve into what we've got going on right here, right now. We have just witnessed the end of a very flawed republic ... the seeds of its own destruction were planted by Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, etc.
The big lie is that Americans tend to think they're "good," no matter how they or their government behave. They've been treated to this lie over and over again. Remember, after 9/11, Americans were told "they hate us because we're free." That one was swallowed hook, line and sinker and gave the govt all the support it needed to attack Iraq (where we "good" folks murdered about a million people).
One last point: Americans kill about 1.5 million babies by abortion each and every year. If this is okay with you, it just proved my point that people will rationalize anything, including murder, if it suits them ... baby be damned. On the other hand, if you agree abortion is murder, how can you say that people tend to be good?
People who believe libertarianism is the answer are probably better people than most, but more naive too. They expect that, once free, all the people will behave more or less like them. Never happened! The capital sins kick in very quickly: greed, lust, sloth, anger, gluttony, envy and pride. Have you never been tempted by these sins?
Great Find! So enjoyable to hear someone who
is so entirely grounded and consistent in his beliefs..... somebody sure raised this guy right!! The more people get the ideas out at the local, county, state and national level the better.
This is what we must all strive for. Having SUCH a complete and grounded philosophy that it is easy to see the position that is CONSISTENT on every issue. It is also where many of us fall short as is seen on this website. Rather than going off on irrelevant and inconsistent tangents we must ALL see EVERY issue in the context of individual freedom, and limited government.
Whether Rand has any aspirations to higher office or not he certainly is going to be out there EDUCATING the masses in whatever position he occupies.

Citizens Call for Massachusetts to Assert Her Constitutional Sovereignty
– December 1, 2008
On Sunday, December 14, 2008, between 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm,
Faneuil Hall, the “Cradle of Liberty” will once again be crowded with the state’s Sons and Daughters of Liberty invited Massachusetts and other New England State Governors and Representatives.
On the heels of the huge bailout and following the November 22, 2008 Boston Rally to End the Fed, Liberty Groups, elected representatives and taxpayers alike will be calling for Massachusetts legislators to re-state the Commonwealth’s Sovereignty.
The Massachusetts Constitution, in Article IV, states that: “The people of this commonwealth have the sole and exclusive right of governing themselves, as a free, sovereign, and independent state; and do, and forever hereafter shall, exercise and enjoy every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not, or may not hereafter, be by them expressly delegated to the United States of America in Congress assembled.”
On Independence Day, July 4 2008, Walter Reddy founded the Committees of Safety organization, which is hosting this years Tea Party event. The focus will be on the security of our money, our free state and our vote count.
Speakers:
Dr. Edwin Vieira, perhaps America's foremost constitutional scholar (also top of his Harvard Law class), will be giving an important address about these subjects with impeccable historical documentation and logic.
Dr. Rand Paul himself will also be a main speaker, and all confirmed attendees await his message with anticipation.
Dr. Katherine Albrecht is fighting to stop any RFID tagging and chipping. A new consumer goods tracking system called Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is poised to enter all of our lives, with profound implications for consumer privacy.
John McManus is currently President of the John Birch Society.
The other speakers are listed on the Speaker page at www.BostonTeaParty08.com -- (a few special guests are in the process of being confirmed).
Other proud co-sponsors are, in part: the Liberty Preservation Association of Massachusetts (masslpa.org), End The Fed! (Endthefed.us), The John Birch Society, (jbs.org), and Restore The Republic (restoretherepublic.com).
Doors open at 12:00 noon. Event begins at l:00 p.m. and will run until 6:00 p.m.
Tickets are on sale now at: Boston Tea Party ’08 (BostonTeaParty ’08.com). General admission tickets are $17.76 each. Other donor levels available at the website.

OK That Sheila Shuster
OK That Sheila Shuster pissed me right off. Self righteous old biddy. If people want to drink or smoke they have to pay more to do it. That is the thought of all people wanting to run our lives. I am not a young person, 55 yrs and I don't need some old bat like that telling me that gambling, smoking or drinking should be taxed more heavily than fast food. But she is firm in advocating more welfare for people who don't work. Hypocritical witch. She reminds me of my bible thumping uncle that demands his rights be protected but the guy at the news stand selling playboy should be shut down.
But on a bright note, Rand was really on top of it all! I am always impressed when I hear him speak!

"Let's have a special McDonald's tax." -Rand Paul
He said great things and cracked some serious jokes. Loved hearing him say that people are getting college degrees who don't use them and we outta encourage technical school degrees and not look down upon them; I couldn't agree more. He also exposed the legislation on "sinning"/non-violent crime for what it is and in a way that I haven't heard from other people voicing the same argument.
Like his father, his opinions and explanations were lively, investigated, and well-constructed. He seems to have more of a wild streak in personality than Dr. Ron Paul but perhaps it was just the hair;)
I like Rand Paul & Jesse Ventura a lot,
but I wish that they both would get a haircut!!
It all seems so simple when a Dr. Paul says it!
He just called out the agenda of the Governor to raise taxes! LOL
