Where should I go?
I'm getting very antsy here in my office in downtown NYC. Last week there were the subway terror rumblings. I live on long Island, home of Walmart stampedes and high school Hispanic killer gangs. I clearly see the writing on the wall. I need to get my family away from here. But, where should I go. I'm thinking the Rockies would be the safest place during the upcoming collapse. California is going into bankruptcy, NY can't be far behind. Anybody have good insights on Arizona, New Mexico or Colorado? I'm looking for smaller communities (coming from NYC everything is smaller), a reliable natural water source, farming/hunting, and states with little fiscal problems or welfare. All suggestions/insights are welcome. Thank You.

Try central Pennsylvania. It's beautiful, pretty isolated. lots of fresh water mountain springs, great trout fishing, elk and deer hunting. And many of those counties gave Dr. Paul 20% in their primary. Also I believe the most gun owners in the country.
I would check out
the Daily Paul For Sale Thread. A lot of nice homes on it. Also, if you are from New York and have family there. Consider moving to southern tier New York we have been through there a few times and I think it is stunning. If you stay in the state but just a different area it may not be such a huge adjustment for you. Plus, you can go back to New York for visits. Just my two cents.
The Rockies would be the safest place..
If you had your own dwelling off the grid and stored a ton of food. If not, the mountains would be a dangerous spot to live, due to famine and winter storms.

between the rockies and the cascades would be alright. the wind pattern will keep your air clear.
Land is still around...
$2,000.00 an acre here in North Central Pennsylvania. No auto theft and almost everyone I know supports the Second Amendment. We have mountains that get to around 2,200 feet above sea level. Baseline elevation is around 1600 feet. Get your mountain top view, set up your wind mill and photovoltaic panels. It would be great to have you as a neighbor! BTW my entire county has a population of 30,000 individuals so we'll add you to our Campaign For Liberty Meetup Group and establish our republican voting block.
Vermont/NH
The upper River Valley along the NH/Vermont border.
Great farming communities, clean air and water, 'hickish' without being 'backwards,' you can spread out without being completely isolated, close to Canada (just in case), and you got the White Mountains to protect you from any huge Coastal tidal waves!
I lived on Long Island for two VERY long years. I think three neighbors, all living in a row, getting inground swimming pools AND fences, all in the same year, put me over the top.
Good luck, I feel for you --- but go with your GUT INSTINCTS. We did. We actually drove by NYC, smoke and clouds where the twin towers used to be, on our moving day.

anecdote: I needed some quarters for the parking meter the other day and so I asked the first person that came along, a middle-aged lady, if she had 4 quarters for a buck. She scoured her pocketbook, smiling and chatting the whole time, and handed me 3 quarters...and absolutely refused my dollar!

Rural Iowa
Smaller communities -- check.
Reliable natural water sources -- check.
Farming -- check.
Hunting -- check (the main problem here is not running over the deer and pheasants with your car!).
Fiscal problems or welfare -- well, good luck finding anywhere without these.
My mom was looking through the ads in our local paper last night. There were houses with one or two acres of land going for less than $70,000.
Our crime rate is a joke.
Schools are good. (Not as good as home schooling, though.)
Our little town even has a Wal-Mart.

Northeast Iowa
High up on the bluffs of the upper Mississippi River Valley - a virtual paradise with plenty of fish and game, woods, farmland, clean water, affordable land and homes, Amish neighbors. No floods or tornados here. Ron Paul came in second here during the primaries. Very low taxes, virtually no crime and no FEMA camps!
i vote for iowa too.

Yeah,what's with tornados and floods?
we haven't had a tornado where I live for 50 years. How would you know if you haven't lived here or done any research.
Texas kicks ass. We have all the guns, nukes ,oil, and beef. AAAAND the most beautiful women in the country. What more could you ask?
What's with the "tornadoes and floods"?
Yeah, we have tornadoes (I hear), although I've been trying to get a good picture of one for years without any luck.
Floods? This ain't New Orleans. Just don't buy (or build) a house in a flood plain. Duh!
(If people would leave those areas for crops and wetlands the world would be a better place anyway.)

Idaho has the most Ron Paul
Idaho has the most Ron Paul supporters per capita. 24% voted for him in the primaries the highest of any state. It probably has the best climate between Montana Wyoming and itself.
While they have some nice areas I'd stay away from Washington Oregon and Utah since they are run by Socialist and fascist from their big cities mostly.
Idaho is not perfect but I think it has the most pluses, Montana is close second almost a toss up IMO.

Doesn't matter
Get out of the city, find a rural area like most of these posts say. "Wooded, Wet and Aggrarian", like someone stated below seems practical. But understand, as long as you're in this country, there's no place to hide and no safe haven. There's obviously better areas than others when it comes to finding like-minded people, smaller aggrarian populations, fresh water sources, annual rainfall, feet above sea level, etc. etc. But no matter where any of you go, every single one of us is going to reap the whirl wind if economic disaster and/or a false flag terror attack does take place. This obviously shouldn't excuse you from doing nothing. Definitely get as prepared as possible and find a good plot of land if you have the resources to do it. All I'm trying to say is we're all in it together...
Buckle up!
Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Utah, or Idaho
South Dakota and Utah have the best economies at this time. Utah has high taxes though. Wyoming has plenty of natural resources.
I would stay out of New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. Arizona, too much desert, too expensive and unsustainable.
I personally would go to Wyoming, Utah or Montana or even Idaho.
You do have to make sure you can earn a living here though. Utah would be the best option for someone from New York, since the economy is fairly diversified.
Unsustainable??????
Who ya been taking talkin' lessons from???? That is a NWO word if I have ever heard one. I don't use the words, "You're a great American" or "unsustainable" or "community" or "change."
What?
What's wrong with desert? Catch the rainwater and you will be fine. I like Montana. Used to live there. But that winter cold will kill a fella. How you going to stay warm when the electricity and gas go off? Hauling wood every day just to stay alive gets old fast. And when EVERYONE is cutting and hauling, wood starts to get scarce around populated areas.
Whatever the economy and tax structure looks like in any particular state is NOT how it is going to look two years from now, so don't make a decision on that basis. Taxes will be going up everywhere, unemployment will be going up everywhere, the cost of living will be going up everywhere.
You should be looking to move somewhere where you can buy a chunk of land with which to support yourself at least partially or run a small business that people will need in a depression. A place with a natural food supply to harvest will help. Nearby agricultural will also help.
Good luck.
If you come to southern Arizona, I'll show you around.

Wyoming
If you are considering Wyoming I can tell what I know. I was born in Buffalo New York and moved to Wyo 42 years ago, I'll never leave here. There are a lot of jobs around Pinedale, Rock Springs, Gillette, and Casper. The weather is the worst in Pinedale, 11 months of winter and 1 month of mosquitoes. The wind blows too much around Cheyenne, Laramie, and Casper. The weather in the Big Horn Basin, where I live is nice but there are not a lot of high paying jobs, but it is an excellent place to raise kids and be self sufficient. Houses are priced reasonable too. A house in town would cost around 80,000. Not sure what the weather is like in Gillette, but it is a nice area too.
I agree, Wyoming

After that, if you're thinking of relocating, look into rural, wooded, wet, and agrarian areas.
Eastern Wyoming -- Crook County is in the Black Hills, an oasis in the vast desert of the great nothing.
Kentucky -- water, woods, hunting, fishing, farming, heavily armed rednecks.
The Big Eye Land of Hawai'i -- it's like a whole 'nother planet!

Yeah
Ky and Tn are pretty much the same place divided by an imaginary line.
The eastern portions are extremely mountainous and rugged but then gradually flattening out the farther west you go.
The western portion of Ky is particularly nice around the Cadiz and Lake Barkely area. There is a huge chunk of land across the lake called Land Between the Lakes which is a public hunting WMA .
If you lived in Cadiz, you would never have to worry about getting permission to hunt from someone ever again.

I lived in Albuquerque for a few years. It is a great little city and the best food I've had anywhere. If you go a little north the city of Rio Rancho is known as little NY because it is the home of many transplanted NY'ers. Rio Rancho I believe is now the 3rd biggest city in NM after Santa Fe and Albuquerque. You'll get a little snow there because it's in the high desert but it usually melts by noon.

Welcome to Florida
I'm a former NY'er and moved here and bought a house. Since then the housing prices have been absolutely killed. You can get a house for a steal here as long as you can find a job that will weather this storm. Rent seems to be approaching cable tv prices. I live in a small and very nice looking community with several lakes and farms nearby. There is no vehicle inspections, no state tax, the motor vehicles offices are privately owned and I've never spent more than 15 minutes there. You'll never de-ice your car again and fishing is plentiful on the gulf (30 mins away). My area even has NY style pizza and chinese food although it needs work. It's not perfect but it is pretty good and there are alot of other Ny'ers here even some small skyscrapers.

Florida is also called "Southern New York"
you run into an old friend or two down there don't you? I don't think I could live in a state where the highest peak is Space Mountain. It's really, really tempting though.
I meet New Yorkers daily
I meet New Yorkers daily, it's like the entire city of Tampa is made up of ex-New Yorkers. Someone gave me the finger this morning on my way to work, I suspect he was one also.

Idea
Dear G&G,
Why not in the middle of nowhere. I know of a beautiful home for rent/sale where it has a small community/town surrounded by country and forested hills with plenty of hunting possible. This is right next to a bay, on the Washington coast. (There is a lot of fishing) Plus, it is reasonable and relatively safe.
betty
I should have also mentioned Washington in my post below.
Give more details for your property such as price range for sale/rent, acreage size, distance from town, etc. Size of home, space for a garden? There are many people looking to relocate, and more details may spark an interest in your property.
The problem with the middle
The problem with the middle of nowhere is that I have to convince my wife. Weather will be a big selling point for her. That's why I was looking at the Southern Rockies. Do you have a link for more info anyway?
For the US
I think the Southern Rockies is a sound idea, personally.
The Rural areas of Idaho, Oregon, Nevada and Montana
Were all pretty supportive of Ron Paul's candidacy---so you would find people of like mind politically. There was a "For Sale' thread awhile back that had good information on areas to relocate. If I find the link, I will edit this. Link Here:http://www.dailypaul.com/node/70747
