RISK
If they're hell-bent on a loan, how 'bout 20% interest because of the risk.
I am sure they have plenty
I am sure they have plenty of collateral from what I see on the car rows in Oklahoma City. Unbelievable how many dealerships with hundreds of new cars.
Bob Nardelli (former CEO of Home Depot)
ran the company into the dirt. Literally RUINED a once great company. Ran all the old timers (who knew a screw driver from their ass),off...He replaced them with mostly part time help that he didn't have to pay benefits to.
He received a 220 million dollar severance package when he left.
He is now the CEO of Chrysler. I hope his limo explodes.
If only
To bad people..and most of us are guilty..didnt wake up fast enough..many many years ago...Maybe we could have used the corrupt system for good...such as an account could have been set up..people put in 5 or 10 bucks a week...(now when I say people...I mean ALL of us who are against this bail out crap) and over time that money would have gained a lot of interest..which we could have started buying out a company or 3...and we might have saved a few thousand jobs...
Freedom is another way to God...A corrupt government is a straight way to hell.
I hope they all go belly up.
I hope they all go belly up. I am fighting trying to get a transmission replaced in my saturn, 57k miles and they are literally raping me, bohica, right? going to end up costing me over $3200. (ooh that's half price) Well gee, I don't happen to have that nice little sum of cash. What can an individual do to get any help with something like this??? Following is the letter I am sending.
Mr. Richard Wagner,
What a joke you and General Motors are! It cost $20,000 for you to fly in a private corporate owned jet to Washington to ask for charity. You want the taxpayers to bail you out.
Meanwhile here I sit with a Saturn Vue with 57,000 miles on it and a bad transmission. You people think I should pay almost $3200 to fix it at one of your rip off dealerships. (And please allow me to mention that I am still driving on the original rear tires that came on the car, amazing that tires outlasted the transmission.) Your little twits in your call center, customer assistance, are of no assistance what so ever. They parrot little scripts and offer asinine platitudes and are totally worthless. A customer is denied talking to an actual person with any knowledge or authority.
I find it little wonder that consumers are buying foreign made vehicles since this is what your sad company offers. I see on the news today that you people will actually be “driving” in this time to ask for a hand out in Washington. I do hope that you are not driving in a G.M. car that has more than 50,000 miles or you may end up stranded as I have been.
Rest assured that I will never buy another G.M. car. Although it will hurt a lot of hard working people in this country, I do hope that your company goes belly up. I am sure it won’t hurt you in any way as I am sure you are one of the protected who will still get all of their huge salaries and perks. ( pay no mind to those who have retired from your sad company and are losing all their retirement) I wonder how people like you can even sleep at night.
Signed in great disdain,
dont they have a 100,000 mile waranty on those cars?
or was it volkswagon?
out of curiosity
what year is your vue? what engine? symptoms? is your check engine light on?
Check engine light was on,
Check engine light was on, it is a 2002, it started shifting hard and then at a stop sign I had no gears. I had it towed to an Aamco and they quoted me 3200 for a used and 4000 for a new transmission. I called G.M. and they insisted I pay to have it towed to a dealership for dignostics. That way they would repair it. So I do that and the service manager tells me that replacing a couple of lines and replacing the fluid will fix it and I agree. They call and I go get it and get stranded again after paying almost $600. So they tow it back and without my ok replace the tranny to the tune of $2600, "half price" So here I sit with no car and G. M. will not budge.
you don't happen to know
what the trouble code was do you? if the check engine light was on then there should have been a trouble code associated with it. so far the common problem w/ harsh shifting is the pc solenoid, but thats a serious guess as i get the feeling there is more than one transmission available for your vehicle. it sounds like your kinda screwed now since you ok'd the swap, but if you can tell me which transmission you have i'll check for tsb's or recall info for your vehicle.
I will try to get that info
I will try to get that info from the service dept at the dealership tomorrow. They are allowing me to take my car without paying the bill until they can see if they can do anything about the cost. That surprised me beyond belief!
And thank you very much!!!
AAMCO is a rip off.
My little theory...
If you see a shop with "transmission" in the first part of their name.....Stay away.
Many times it is just a 12 dollar plastic part that can be replaced.
Their prices were less than
Their prices were less than the saturn dealership. they offered 4000 for a new tranny where saturn is saying half price is 2600 which means full price is 5200.
Also I called 5 other tranny places before aamco and none of them had the diagnostic equip to test it.
True, try to find a good
independent mechanic. My delivery truck at the store (also my daily driver), wouldn't shift into 2nd gear, went to the guy and he put a new little plastic thingy on the clutch pedal linkage and solved the problem, wouldn't even take anything for it. A year later when I did need a new clutch he did the whole job for about $1,200.
Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.
Thanks for the back up...
Now that is a good mechanic.
The problem is that most
The problem is that most small honest mechanics can't afford to buy all the expensive diagnostic equipment needed for cars now, so you are at the mercy of big business.
with a paper clip and some patience
most of the newer cars will self diagnose for you in the driveway.
True as well they are hard to find
I'm lucky this guy was the head mechanic at the local Ford dealer for years before he opened up for himself. My delivery truck is a Ford usually he has whatever part I need used sitting in a corner somewhere. Not every town is lucky enough to have an honest mechanic that knows his stuff.
Thank you Dr. Paul for making me act on what I already knew was right.
Political theater
Just another case of a PR stunt and political theater to "appease" a pissed off nation. These guys think their arrogance can be wiped away simply because they're driving their shitboxes to Washington? I hope Congress lights them up for it (at least the ones who have a backbone).

You got...
that right!
I want my bailout, too. Last week, I was asking for $2.7 mil
and $3 mil for my wife. Well, I just realized the amounts are too low. Whew! I'm fortunate to have discovered the mistake because the total, combined bailout for us is, actually, $14 million, rounded to the next highest million. So, I guess we (all of us) seek bailout funds directly from Hank at the U.S. Treasury, or do we need to present our requests to Congress?

But they still have their jets...
Another publicity stunt in the never ending political dog & pony show.
You know that they will soon have our money to back their failing businesses... it's just a matter of time.
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
Ford, GM to sell Jets

Ford and General Motors will sell their fleet of corporate luxury jets, the two struggling auto companies announced today
Just watch....
they will sell their fleets, and then LEASE them back for private use.

They have turned over a new leaf it seems
They are driving up in hybrids instead of flying in their jets and have stated they will be selling all of their jets and also will agree to be paid $1 (yes, you read it correctly, one dollar) each per year as salary if they get the loan. Now, if they had sold the jets earlier and were not making some $25 million a year each maybe they would not need to be asking for a loan. No word on any important manufacturing business plan changes yet. Stranger than fiction.
If Steve Jobs, the CEO of a wildly successful and profitable
company can work for a dollar a year, surely these jerks can, too.
(Of course, Steve has a private jet....but until he asks for taxpayers money to bail out his compnay, I won't begrudge him his private jet.)

Oh Boy!
This will SOLVE the crisis!!!!
It's so SIMPLE!!
It was those silly corporate jets that caused all the trouble.
We can all relax now. See ya at WalMart!
It's such a silly game........
the insincerity of which makes me very angry.
They should be forced to take amtrak,
so that the future heads of amcar can see how well their soon to be nationalized companies will work in the future.
They should be forced to hitchhike....in the rain....

2007 ford f 350
(needed for job) cost 45,000.00 broke down and left us stranded with horses on the trailer 6, again i say, 6 different times (in states other than the one we live in)with less than 20,000 miles. we told ford they could have it- come pick it up. they refused to say it was a lemon. they offered us a new ford if we put 5000.00 down and they would take the "old" new one back. we said NO F_IN WAY...come pick it up. they refused. so i guess it is partly our "fault" that ford is bankrupt as we just plain old quit paying the 900.00 dollar per month bill. it sat in my yard for 7 months until the ford dealer towed it to their place(this was in oct.) and they continue to call. they want us to come and pick it up- and pay the bill i am sure, but guess what, it aint happenin. we told them its their problem now.
