Hardball: Gov. Sanford (R - SC) is against federal subsidies to the states
I sort of smelled this coming. My governor, Ed Rendell (a left-wing hack who loves to distort the truth and has been doing it since he was the mayor of Philadelphia) was talking about the governors' meetings that are going on.
He told Chris Matthews that almost everyone supported the federal government pumping more money into the economy, and helping the states with their shortfalls. He tried to make it sound as if almost everyone -- regardless of ideology -- agreed. He said only a few voiced opposition.
Matthews (we know where he stands on this) was taken a bit aback at the thought that a governor would oppose more cash for his state, but I had a good idea who one of these principled governors would be.
Then Rendell said it: Governor Sanford.
He's not perfect, and he's had to walk a fine line in his rise to power, but Sanford is a guy I wouldn't mind supporting. He's no Ron Paul in terms of a perfect record, but he's as close as you're going to get in a candidate who could have a viable chance to win the GOP nomination in 4 years.
Any thoughts?
