The personal income tax shouldn't be abolished
It should be voluntary.
I realized it's easier to tell the sheep that personal income taxes should be voluntary instead of abolished.
If someone believes that the personal income tax is needed and good for our country, then they should write a check to the IRS. Heck, they can send 80% of their income to the politicians if they want to... I don't care.
But if someone can't afford it or wants to keep their money to spend into the economy, then they don't have to give away their hard-earned money to the politicians.
This statement has been working for me quite well compared to the idea of completely abolishing the IRS.

This argument always works for me
It then highlights the fact that taxation in its current form is a method of physical coercion, as you must pay or you will be in a heap of mess fast.
Not many people are really that interested in enslaving their fellow human being when it gets down to it.
There's only a small percentage who would argue for tax slavery in its essence and they are intellectually and morally weak turds. They WILL lose this debate in time.
So, yeah, this is a way to win the hearts and minds of good folk.

I know this is off topic but
I know this is off topic but didn't Barry Goldwater say that Social Security should be voluntary when he ran in '64?
It already is volutary.
Glad it's working out for you though.
"Moreover, as America becomes an increasingly multicultural society, it may find it more difficult to fashion a consensus on foreign policy issues, except in the circumstances of a truly massive and widely perceived direct external threat."
You're insane...
You're giving the powers that be a blank check to steal from all of us. The Supreme Court has already ruled that the 16th Amendment does not give the government the power to apply direct taxes to us. The Grace Commission found that the all the money collected by the tax thieves is wasted or stolen.
The money goes to the Federal Reserve, which is a private banking cartel. The IRS is not even a legitimate government agency. These criminals should be tracked down and dealt with by the rule of law, either law enforcement of private citizens acting as vigilantes, in whatever manner that justice will be served.
Wages are not income.
I personally do not believe that the federal income tax was ever meant to apply to wages (trading your time for compensation), but only to unearned income or income derived from government sources. Things like inheritances and stock profits would be closer to my definition of income, which is why I don't really mind things like the "death tax" which is really just a tax on true unearned income.
However, I think it would be in the country's best interest to repeal the 16th Amendment. It was passed under sketchy circumstances. We could also probably do quite well without the IRS.
I believe what you're trying to say is that
you believe that the income tax was meant to apply to net income, as opposed to gross income.
I actually think there were some cases that upheld that view back in the day, but don't hold me to that. Its been a while since I've trolled through supreme court cases looking for income tax related stuff.
Its voluntary
but with a gun to your head
It's already voluntary.
Just ask the IRS. seriously, they call it voluntary.
Let me clarify. The income
Let me clarify. The income tax should be voluntary with absolutely no punishment for not paying.

I like it. A lot!
It reminds me of a survey done eyars ago that gave taxpayers choices as to how their tax dollars would/could be spent. What I remember most vividly was that the defense department got less than 10% while welfare got over 50%. To say the least the results were sort of shocking!
Maybe we could make it voluntary and you get to direct the payment to whatever department you want.
