November 5, 2008 (Columbia County, GA) - Freedom Fighter Radio Host and WeAreChange Georgia member, Jim Stach, was stopped and arrested on the evening of November 4, 2008 as he was driving by a polling place in Columbia County, GA. Stach had gone to vote in his own precinct wearing a Fire Congress t-shirt, carrying an upside down flag and wearing an empty gun holster, in a silent form of protest. He was told he could not wear the shirt into the polling place, as it violated campaigning laws. Stach returned wearing a different shirt and was allowed to vote.
Stach, whose radio show deals with American freedoms and liberties and dispensing information that is not covered by the mainstream news networks, is very knowledgeable about the Constitution and carries an upside down flag because he feels our country is in distress. He sees this as peaceful and gives people the opportunity to approach him and ask questions without him disturbing them.
As the silent protest went well and he was allowed to vote at his precinct, Stach went driving around to other areas. A lady who was offended that he would be flying his flag Union down approached him, and he had the opportunity to engage in a peaceful conversation about his thoughts on the direction of the country. As Stach left the area, he was pulled over and was questioned about the incident. Up to approximately 6 police cars came to the scene and 12 officers, after Stach was stopped. Stach was cooperative as they questioned him and they took the opportunity to search his car. Upon speaking with the accusing lady, Stach was arrested for causing a disturbance.

I am fighting something very similar. In ct after 1 year you can request a speedy trial. I have been charged with 2nd degree breach of peace for trying to buy a parking sticker for a bldg of which I am part owner (condo). DA will not dismiss charge my only option is plead guilty or jury trial. So your honor seat a jury I'm ready to go is my mantra each month.

This is a great opportunity to show them we will not leave a man behind. I suggest we gather 500 people to show up at the trial! If he has a second trial it could turn into over a 1,000 people.

To satisfy all involved we should start by getting the official police report and a copy of his statement. If this is clear cut and he appears in his rights, we all show up at the court house with protest signs.

Something is missing here.
I'm not trying to discredit the incident or deny anything, but this doesn't sound like the whole story. One man (assuming he was alone) does not receive 12 police officers in response to a minor incident. One of two things may have happened here:
The call for response was misguided (some lady freaked and said there was a bunch of people protesting). OK, yeah I could see additional units being dispatched if they think there was a lot of people. With all the protesting lately, it would be easy to assume.
OR
There's something not forthcoming here that warranted a lot of response. To reduce coverage by sending a whole bunch of them to one spot for something other than an emergency simply doesn't jive. Something else may have happened in the course of things.

I remember seeing one police car and 4 back ups for what turned out to be a silver haired old lady being pulled over for speeding. lol...
Let me tell you how wrong your presumption is
I was involved in a property dispute with our local tax collector. This guy was the power broker in our community and decided he was going to deny me the use of my property which was a next to his business . It was one of those classic deals where the municipality would take you to court and you wouldn't be able to afford to fight them. My resolve was such that I handled my case without an attorney and brought the case to a stalemate. This did not sit well with the local police who were hired by this jokers associates. I have the unfortunate circumstance to be living across the street from a woman who has raised a few kids who were constantly in trouble and had a lot of contact with our local police however nothing ever seemed to come in front of the courts. Our local police force consist of two full time officers who have made it no secret, how should I state this politely? whose bread is buttered on the other side. These kids ran rampant around here. I have two daughters who were honor students who couldn't even bring friends home due to this group or posse as they liked to call their selves harassing any female in the area. This grew to a head one evening when these jerks started tossing rocks at my wives car. When I went out I was assaulted by two of the punks who told me they could do anything due to what they had over the police. When the cop arrived he immediately went on the offensive towards me and attempted to handcuff me, I have an old injury to my shoulder which this cop was well aware of which precludes my right arm from being pulled behind my back. Despite my and my wifes protestations this clown tried to force my arm behind my back, I had volunteered to have my wrist cuffed to my ankles but this didn't work. When he wrenched my arm back my body followed and he claimed I was resisting arrest. His call brought officers from five neighboring municipalities with multiple cars from some. By the time they were done I was in the hospital and facing numerous charges....heres the kicker. the "cop" wasn't even certified as is the law in our state and had no legal basis for laying his hands on me much less purporting to be a police officer. Too bad our local DA pulled out all the stops to protect this jackass and his patron , our local tax collector Two good things came from this, one, the kids posse was forced elsewhere and two, the neighboring municipalities no longer assist these outlaws with badges.

I'm sorry to hear what you went through, but I believe in the end the truly righteous come out with the glory! I have experienced alot of bad treatment in my life, but in the end was always vindicated. I believe things happen for a reason and we're always looked out for, from above! Excellent story!

If police reports are available online (as it is in most cities these days), it should be relatively easy to find the official police blotter report and post the results here.

Actually I live about 45 minutes from Columbia County and work only about 20 minutes from Columbia County and this sounds exactly like something they would do. The police in Georgia especially in certain areas will harass you for anything. If its anti-government or establishment you better be careful because if you give them an opening for anything they will try to get you for it. You got to remember this is the same state that just yesterday re-elected a Bush neocon to represent us for another six years in the Senate. I love my home but many of the people here drank and still drink that neocon kool-aid.

Wherever he was is wasting way too much money on police officers. There's no reason whatsoever that 12 officers were needed there. Maybe 2 would have been reasonable. That means 10 officers on the time-clock, wasting the taxpayers money, when they really weren't needed. I personally witnessed at a bar, a disturbance where a couple of guys went to bar where the owner of the bar had stole one of the guys girl away and eventually married her, so there was bad blood there. The owner of the bar, who is a big chicken shit, afraid, called the cops, since the bar is outside of city limits, 4 sheriff cars were dispatched and city cops showed up as well ( bar owner friends with cops ), no punches were thrown, nothing happened. but all these cops showed up, at least 10 cops, no one was arrested and the guys stayed at the bar until it closed, Cops can do what they want, when they want. Thugs all of them.
