I have already commented about community currencies in a couple of other liberty dollar threads.
I am glad you brought it up-
they are different than the liberty dollars-which were not advertised as a local,community driven currency,not intending to replicate or replace the US dollar.
My understanding is that community currencies such as those you mention,are legal b/c they are restricted in one or more ways in the marketplace.
I do not have all the details,but am glad you posted this thread.
That said,yes,i am sure there are political and possible RP related aspects to the liberty dollar raid.
Although,one post said that they had been investigated at least a year ago-so this was an on-going situation.
What would be useful,in my opinion,is a forum about alternative currencies within a free market.
Gold is the current frenzy,b/c RP has supported it. But RP did not say it was a mandate,were he to become president.
He said he wants the currency backed by something.
Gold is a commodity b/c 'the market' says it is.
The market is made up of,well,people.
Economies that in the past used spices or seashells for 'currency',were not 'backwards'-this was the commodity that was valued at that timeas a means of payment for exchange of goods and/or services.
Currency comes from the root word 'current'-so it is literally the exchange of energy-a current.
It is ULTIMATELY backed by an exchange of goods and dollars,in a free market/economy.
It is up to each person in the market to create the market thru demand.
Gold is currently run by the same intl. banking cartel. Who says what they plan to do with regards to it's value?
And while RP being prez. would affect the US angle of things,and ultimately the world in that regard,it will be a process of un-engtangling.
And 'markets' around the world may not choose gold as their standard.
[I like to think of markets as individuals or groups of individuals desiring a particular good/service-anything no longer in 'demand' will phase itself out of the market. This is very unlike being a 'consumer',eating up everything offered by you without ever asking for it,per se.]
I believe there are many shades of grey within free economies.
And that free economies are secondary to free people.
They are currently intertwined.
But it still behooves each of us to consider who is telling us what a commodity is.
I also believe RP harkens back to Gold as backing a currency b/c it is a good example,not the final say or end all be all.
In the end,any making money off of money,or making commodity off of money,or visa versa,it a bit of an abstract game. I still say we need to get back to talking about goods and services in a free market.
Thanks for your post. It's a big and,in my opinion,confusing topic-what is legal and what is not-since RP has said he would legalize competitive currencies if elected,as a first or co-step to dismantling the fed/IRS,this implies that some aspect of it is currently not legal. This was mentioned briefly in a previous thread-hope someone can elaborate for us???
