Food, Shelter, and Clothing updated 1-16-09
Submitted by ODell Equip on Fri, 01/16/2009 - 11:08
Anyone else notice a pattern developing?
1. Food is being legislated, which will limit the supply
NAIS, you must register your livestock, and the taxes on cow, pig, and chicken farts, raiding business that sell food, all the expense and added trouble to produce food for yourselves. Turning crop land into areas to grow stuff the create fuel instead of food. etc. etc.
2. Shelter: Artificially created bubbles that will leave folks homeless, engineered inflation to make renting and ownership unaffordable. Endless hurdles to jump through in order to build or remodel. etc. etc.
3. Clothing, it will now be illegal to sell used clothes?
What is it all for? I'll tell you it is, just more of the same, we know this, but this is something else we can use to educate the rest of the folks.
There is an obvious effort here to limit the supply of the 3 basic human needs, food, clothing, and shelter.
And, we know the reason, to have folks go running to the hand that feeds them, clothes them, houses them, and to lick that hand and do its bidding, and thank that hand for saving us.
UPDATE:

"WASHINGTON — A stimulus package may be a lifeline for the nation's economy, but it could be a death sentence for a lot of cows.
Lawmakers are looking for ways to use the forthcoming stimulus bill to help dairy farmers, and the number one priority is to dampen milk supplies and prop up prices. Translation: reduce the nation's dairy herd."
"Taking milk cows out of production as a way to control milk prices is a controversial approach. The federal government tried that in the 1980s through the whole herd buyout program, and while the policy worked for a time, milk production eventually bounced back and farmers were once again grappling with low milk prices.
The buyout also sent beef prices crashing, as slaughtered cows entered the meat supply."

I raise Nubian goats...
fresh milk from my goats tastes just like if not better than cow's milk. My children and husband could hardly tell the difference when we switched from store bought, except for the rich creamy flavor. Goat's milk from the store is NOTHING like fresh goat's milk - Yuck! Also some goat breeds have strong tasting milk, like the Toggenberg breed. (oops this was supposed to follow the comment thread on goats, sorry!)

Monsanto, NAIS and Tom Vilsack
are three major things we have to worry about. Farmers are being prosecuted by Monsanto for trying to save their seed for replanting. They have the money to take as many farmers to court as they want to whether they have done anything wrong or not. Their main objective is to drive as many family farmers out of business as they can. The GM seeds they(Monsanto) sold in India drove many of them to commit suicide when they had crop failures due to drought. Monsanto's big buddy, Tom Vilsack, has been named as the new Secretary of the Department of Agriculture. We won't get any relief from the big ag-chemical industry with him at the helm.
We're still fighting to keep NAIS from becoming mandatory here in Missouri. The latest news is that, on January 13, 2009, the USDA published in the Federal Register a proposed rule that would make two elements of NAIS --NAIS Premises ID and NAIS individual animal ID--- effectively mandatory in several USDA animal disease programs. This rule, if it goes into effect, would be an enormous step toward creating a fully mandatory NAIS for all U.S. livestock.
And so, the real criminals march on driving small livestock producers and family farmers out of business. There's no where left to run or to hide. We have to fight this any way we can.
All the more reason for me to
seriously consider getting goats. We are getting chickens soon and if that goes well, I hope to step up and get goats too. I hate having to buy pastuerized/homogenized cow milk anyway, even if it is "organic": I've tried to find a source of raw goat milk, but the few farms around here that have it already have too many customers and just don't have the supply for new customers.

Our 2 bed, one bath, in a starter neighborhood cost $230,000 4 years ago. AND it was a fixer upper. We spent about $30,000 fixing it up and now it MIGHT be worth 220,000 and we anticipate it falling more. No one twisted our arm to buy this thing as it was the least expensive option in the town closest to the rest of my family. Was it a plan to run all these people out of their homes? Maybe if the people were all hot on the interest only mortgages...but for the rest of us who were saving money and getting traditional mortgages this just sucks.
exactly
Thank you for your reply. We are not big spenders. I don't even like to shop. Have used paid for vehicles. I guess our 1 weakness is animals. But most women spend more on shoes, make up, hair styles ect. I've never even had my nails done. Have my muck boots, one pair tennis shoes and recently one pair to wear with my 2 dresses. Some people can't even comprehend how you can do without alot and still not have enough. I'm not saying we have it so bad. We have it great compared to many. I just see even people on here seem to judge people for not being financially sound without extra for anything that comes thier way. We also raised 3 kids and things happen when you have to bite the bullet and help when misfotune strikes a grown child. Such as an apartment burning down and them and thier spouse have to move in for a while and they are forced to buy a house pretty quick (due to rates ect.) You can't budget for these things.~peace Oh I realize i made not have made it clear we have a fixed rate morgtage ang an equity line we used to build a barn. had plenty of equity left but we are with citibank so they cut it off once they got bailed even though we have been paying it off in big chunks(probably why lol) The letter said because property values are falling. They don't know we increased the value building the barn and doing alot of landscaping. They just want to get thier bonuses. They don't even wamt to keep good loans going obviously. We are going to refinance and consolidate with a small bank or credit union. Just watching rates. Just wish I could predict how low they will go.
Hyperinflation to the rescue.
If you have a fixed-rate mortgage, hyperinflation may come to your rescue.
If we match the first 18 months of Weimar Germany's post-Versais hyperinflation you'll be able to pay off your mortgage for the price of a slice of toast.
So pay your bills, keep your credit rating up, refinance into a fixed rate if you've got a variable (or a lower fixed rate if can drop your current one by a percent or more). And buy at least a LITTLE BIT of gold. Then in a couple years sell a bit of the gold and put the money in a wheelbarrow (or do the same with a tiny slice of your week's pay if you're still employed) and laugh all the way to the bank. B-)

There are stories of farmers
There are stories of farmers who paid off the entire debt of their farms back during the Weimar hyperinflation with the sale of a single egg.
Maybe this is how our government intends on handling all the debt within the U.S., inflate it out of existence. This will cause great financial pain to all those who have saved, though.
another sad story
it could have been a trap to rob/enslave folks in debt so they become easier to control.
That is my personal opinion........
I never had debt in my life and was always saving.
Bought material goods only with my own cash.
Hope you can make a nice recovery.
God Bless.

to offset falling milk supplies, want to make it part of the next stimulus package.

we are paying double for a gallon of milk now compared to where it was at a couple years ago.. what does the government think a fair price is? 10 or 15.00 per gallon!

Think hard on this one.
We now spend on average less than 10% of our income on food. In 1950 the average was over 30%. This is largely the result of government manipulation and department of agriculture programs that have destroyed small family farms. (In the same time period, 1950--2008, the number of family farms has dropped from few to almost none---don't have the stats in hand, but you can look them up). For the sake of independence and food security, we need to get the government out and return to family farming, and for that to work, the price of food will have to go up. $15/gallon (which is a little more than you pay now for organic family-farm produced goat milk) might not be too far off the mark.
Agreed! That is absolutely
Agreed! That is absolutely insane. Milk is one of the staple foods of our society. To increase the price will only increase hardship across the country.

I agree with food and
I agree with food and clothing, but shelter - c'mon... Have anyone twisted their arm to purchase a quarter million dollar ($250,000) home based just on paper??? Folks did it to themselves, granted, banks and builders made it easy, but common sense went out of the window in the sights of an "instant home". So now, an instant home is $100K upside down and plain unaffordable, but is this truly a builder/lender fault? I don't think there was a government conspiracy to get people into the homes they are to foreclose upon in 24 months after purchase. Everyone got greedy, so that's a price to pay.
My 2c.
Government controls interest
Government controls interest rates and they, the politicians (or the Fed Res), made interest rates artificially low. A few years back I remember seeing on the news that we have never seen rates so low, so because of that it was time to buy and lock in those low rates.
People went wild refinancing their mortgages, purchasing additional homes to "flip", etc, etc.
All you get for
250,000 here is a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath 1500 square ft (if your lucky) and your payment on a fixed is usually less than rent in a half way decent place. my house went from 67,000 to 300,000 in 20 years and it's a 1250 sqare foot rambler built in the 60s and we've had to refinance for upkeep over the years. We do have some land with it but housing prices jumped up so high around here in the last 5 years it was unbelievable. I knew the bottom was going to drop out but everyone told me that could never happen. Hopefully we won't lose our home but we should be at the point where we should'nt be struggling anymore but who could predict all the bs that would be thrown at us over the years. Budget? How the hell can you budget these days unless you don't really need to. Yes it is ignorant to do a subrime morgtage but many people got into trouble for reasons beyond there control. I know renters that could'nt afford thier rent anymore because gas went so high ect. Everything went up because gas went up. Good hard working people still can't get caught up. So don't be so quick to judge. Maybe you have been watching too much tv.
builders made it easy? NO it
builders made it easy? NO it all started with and ends at GREENSPAN!..
builders took orders to fill the demand.. don't blame the builders..

True not many folks act with common sense
However the federal gov mandated the banks to lend to the nit wits that can't add and subtract. And in turn added to the financial mess

Bump for the evening crowd. Thanks for posting ODell E.
Keep this one circulating.
Alot of folks have been talking about this around here lately...
Most of us here depend on hunting season to fill our freezers and give us our annual meat supply. I have lived in this state for 38 years and never remember it being any other way....till now. In spite of all our protests, wolves have been transplanted here in our western Montana valley by the federal government. It is no surprise to hear of livestock being killed by wolves any more. My husband took a week off from work and went hunting every single day. He saw a lot of wolf tracks but no game. We only know of two people who filled their tags in our valley this year....one got an elk and one got a mule deer. Even the sheeple around here are talking about how it looks like the federal government has deliberately killed off our healthiest meat supply.

**the soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears**
It has been hard to bag a deer for meat in Alabamastan this yr
too, I don't know of any predators that have been released here officially, but unofficially cougars have been released. The state nor the feds will admit it though. The main thing making deer scarce right around me is the huge amount of folks that are hunting this year, I guess folks are out there more than normal in order to stock up on meat.
( Alabamastan cause just like Afghanistan we are occupied by a foreign government. )

This is eye-opening
I never really thought about things this way. Can't believe they want to tax cows, horses, sheep, etc., and this business about not being able to sell used books, clothes, etc. We have a bunch of bureaucrats in DC who have nothing to do and feel they have to make themselves useful so they sit around and come up with these stupid ideas to "protect the public". They probably never had an actual job in their lives much less lived on a farm.
Books?
Books???? For real? Someone told me the other day they backed of the used clothing thing. Can anyone verify this? I asked the person who told me this and they said they would try to give me some verification but nothing yet.
Yes, I do not have the link,
Yes, I do not have the link, but they kind of backed off on used products. Basically, they will not require testing for used products, but they will hold the seller liable if it is determined that they sold products with high lead content. In other words, you can sell whatever used products you like, but only by testing can you be sure you won't get slapped by major fines or a lawsuit.

Ding ding ding!!!
My thoughts exactly! Funny but yesterday I was looking for an empty store front (seems to be alot empty perhaps a new bubble to come). I wanted to start a small business for 2 reasons, the ability to generate an income in the days ahead and 2) a platform to educate people.
I want to offer personalized teeshirts/aprons ect. Provide wireless internet, coffee & cupcakes. Sell veggies that I'm growing myself and sell seedling starter plants all organic with heritage seed stock AND sell thrift store items, childrens toys, clothes & shoes. Barter, trade and be a neighborhood go to for info & supplies. So last night I see this new law...... sheesh! Talk about cutting a person off at the knees.
Why didn't they put this on the foreign distributers that send this crap to us in the first place? Because as in the days of Pharo they are taking away our straw & mud and demanding we make MORE bricks! This is crazy
I haven't thought of the bricks without straw analogy
