Update: NOW How's the site running?

Latest Update: How are things running now?

Michael

Update: There are apparently some corrupted database tables that are causing the problems with the site. We have to take the site down in order to attempt a repair. This will happen tonight around 9PM ET, and shouldn't last more than an hour or so.

Do not be alarmed, and thank you for your patience!

Michael

Original post: How's the site running?

Just checking in to see how others are experiencing the site. It seems very spotty on this end - sometimes lickety split, other times it just hangs and hangs.

What have you noticed out there, especially when opening links & posting comments.

Thanks for your help.
Michael

Fine for me here...

with the exception of some obamabots bringing up old posts.

OK, except

Every time I log on, I have to yell "Wheeee!"

Why is that?

Smooooooth.

Remember Red Skelton?

He took a drink of Guzzler's Gin, in a fake commercial, and said (puckering up his face) " Smoooooth!"

Anyhow, it's still the best site to hang around.

No problem from France

everything is perfectly fine.
Thanks for your work.

Never noticed anything was wrong...

works great here

Very quick page load time now. I thought I was loosing bandwidth due to the kids being out of school, and the WOW addicts were sucking up all my speed.hehe
Running great now.

wait till TOR comes out

When the old republic comes out from bio ware, they will be really using the band with.

Personally I dont play video games where I can fight better than the charictor on the screen, so WoW was never a option for me (its funny but they ave two ton minitour like creaters loosing to frogs because they are not a high enough level), but TOR may be a viable option.

Like a fine Swiss watch....

Welcome back.

And it is very good to have you 'home' again, Michael!
You were missed!

you-no

see to your liberty

I think we have someone bumping old posts.

Better than ever!

The server-side operations (e.g. track your recent activity) are really quick. …Major improvement over a few months ago!

Once in a while my comments simply disappear. In fact the other day I was having a discussion/light debate with a young woman. I was suddenly “bumped off,” and then I got an e-mail message from the gal I was chatting with; apparently the same thing happened to her. I don’t know if the site was essentially overloaded or what. I do know that more people should probably learn how to turn off their Web browsers’ prefetching features.

I LOVE my Rally at Lexington Green poster that I received in the mail. It is so freaking handsome, and I think it is your *best* yet! REALLY REALLY happy I purchased it ;-)

If there are any left, you guys would be wise to snatch them up ... printed on a nice antique looking stock!

Also got a charge out of your HR1207 Audit the Fed posters. Bernanke never looked better ... it was wickedly funny ... but not mean-spirited.
______

p.s. I feel absolutely terrible about what happened with your thumb while you were printing your Rally posters. Hoping it may possibly regenerate?

Seems fine for me...a minor hickup here and there but who knows

what caused it. Overall seems to run fine for me.

Seemed to be a few problems last week, getting in to the website was not possible at times..

Think I am a little paranoid being in Australia and the filtering system they are planning on... my suspicion is that they are trying it out anyway, on the slight so to speak.

Firefox makes a real difference

Was still having problems but have downloaded Firefox although this was not possible from the site. That had been one of my problems for a long time. The "Get Firefox" icon was just not accessible. However, I am really pleased with the new browser. Seems much more secure.

Great

It Is rather speedy for me.

Loads quite slowly, but that’s to be expected.

Lots of code, "modules," and other things are loading both locally and remotely. On the other hand, this isn't a social network were people who don't want to think too hard get together to discuss frivolous issues. This site has an honorable purpose—I doubt anybody minds waiting two or three seconds (at the most) for it to load.

Hi there!

I like your Web site. The pictures made me homesick. I was born in Long Beach, California—many pretty sights there!

Welcome!

Did you just become a RP supporter recently?

The tracker page still...

takes a long time to load. Other than that the site is running pretty fast.

Actually...

I've been testing it a bit more. It seems like the speed of the tracker page has increased.
But it's still slowest page on the site for me to load.

Djdevon gives a nice explanation below on why this occurs.

Yup

On smaller sites that don't get much traffic like blogs or personal sites the difference in speed (noted from the question below) would be unnoticeable. It would be a matter of milliseconds difference. On a site with a huge database such as the DP the difference could be full seconds. On a site that has a really poorly built CMS the difference could be 10's of seconds.

Daily Paul has a descent enough CMS. I've been quite impressed with how it's handled massive traffic regardless of the host provider. The CMS isn't feature rich by any means but it gets the job done for what it was built for.
