Unintended Consequences of "Universal Health Care"

From the DC Examiner - Thanks Brad.

To much fanfare from both right and left in 2006, Massachusetts became the first state in the nation to require all residents to buy health insurance. A new state health insurance clearinghouse was created, with taxpayers subsidizing those who couldn’t afford to buy coverage. Then Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican, promised that "every uninsured citizen in Massachusetts will soon have affordable health insurance." Yet just two years later, Romney’s much-heralded “solution” — touted by many as the model for a national program — has become an embarrassing flop.

Just a year after the universal coverage law passed, The New York Times reported, state insurers were already jacking up rates to twice the national average. According to Dr. Paul Hsieh, a physician and founding member of Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine, 43 mandatory benefits — including those that many people did not want or need, such as invitro fertilization — raised the costs of coverage for Massachusetts residents by as much as 56 percent, depending upon an individual’s income status. So much for “affordable” health care.

Just like any central

Just like any central government "solution", it is a miserable failure. Yet the uninformed masses continually rely on the government to take care of them. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Firstly, we don't have

Firstly, we don't have health care in America ... we have "managed death care." Doctors cure no one of anything. They prescribe poisons or do procedures which will, if all goes according to plan, keep you alive but tied to the medical INDUSTRY for the rest of your life ... probably until your liver fails.

After caring for my mother and watching her die (of congestive heart failure), I consciously decided not to carry health insurance for myself. That way, if I should get sick, no doctor or hospital will find me a lucrative patient for their diabolical drugs and procedures. I do alternative medicine and I've no doubt saved tens of thousands of dollars, while actually curing a number of health issues, since I made this decision.

People who get annual checkups are just asking for doctors to find something wrong. Take cholesterol, for instance. What they don't tell you is that more people who die of heart problems have low, not high cholesterol. Besides, cholesterol is absolutely essential for your brain ... it's the stuff that insulates your nerves ... without it you get alzheimer's! Could it be that the "experts" are able to predict the number of future alzheimer's patients based on the number of people that are now taking cholesterol lowering drugs??? Are you aware that doctors are heavily invested in nursing homes for alzheimer's patients? Until the late 1970's alzheimer's was not even on the charts as a looming problem.

You can be sure of one thing: if our government demands we all get universal "health care," it isn't because they want us healthy ... just the opposite!

My final point is that some of us who won't buy health insurance are doing it for substantial reasons that have nothing to do with costs. The medical INDUSTRY is the only growth industry in the US. They are powerful beyond belief. If everyone took charge of their own health care, the health "care" INDUSTRY could shrivel down to what it ought to be.

Excellent
