Ron Paul: What if ... the American People Learn the Truth?!

February 12, 2009 C-SPAN. Wow!

Thank you to Cspan Junkie!

Text of this speech below:

What if we wake up one day and realize that the terrorist threat is a predictable consequence of our meddling in the affairs of others?

What if propping up repressive regimes in the Middle East endangers both the United States and Israel?

What if occupying countries like Iraq and Afghanistan – and bombing Pakistan – is directly related to the hatred directed toward us and has nothing to do with being free and prosperous?

What if someday it dawns on us that losing over 5,000 American military personnel in the Middle East since 9/11 is not a fair trade-off for the loss of nearly 3,000 American citizens, no matter how many Iraqi, Pakistani, and Afghan people are killed or displaced?

What if we finally decide that torture, even if called “enhanced interrogation techniques,” is self-destructive and produces no useful information – and that contracting it out to a third world nation is just as evil?

What if it is finally realized that war and military spending is always destructive to the economy?

What if all wartime spending is paid for through the deceitful and evil process of inflating and borrowing?

What if we finally see that wartime conditions always undermine personal liberty?

What if conservatives, who preach small government, wake up and realize that our interventionist foreign policy provides the greatest incentive to expand the government?

What if conservatives understood once again that their only logical position is to reject military intervention and managing an empire throughout the world?

What if the American people woke up and understood that the official reasons for going to war are almost always based on lies and promoted by war propaganda in order to serve special interests?

What if we as a nation came to realize that the quest for empire eventually destroys all great nations?

What if Obama has no intention of leaving Iraq?

What if a military draft is being planned for the wars that will spread if our foreign policy is not changed?

What if the American people learn the truth: that our foreign policy has nothing to do with national security and that it never changes from one administration to the next?

What if war and preparation for war is a racket serving the special interests?

What if President Obama is completely wrong about Afghanistan and it turns out worse than Iraq and Vietnam put together?

What if Christianity actually teaches peace and not preventive wars of aggression?

What if diplomacy is found to be superior to bombs and bribes in protecting America?

What happens if my concerns are completely unfounded – nothing!

What happens if my concerns are justified and ignored – nothing good!

“Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it’s realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy" ... ~ Congressman Ron Paul

How can

the public not get this guy? How can he be on show after show after show and neither the media nor the public finally see how smart and how right his ideas are? It's frustrating to read people who still want to blame the Republicans for the mess we're in or blame the Democrats for this ridiculous "stimulus" bill. It's not about Rep or Dem. those arguments are destructive to America. That whole system is corrupt, broken, out of date and frankly a joke. We have to institute term limits ourselves. All we have to do is vote every incumbent out of office every time we vote. No matter who took their place, is there any conceivable way it would be worse than what we have now?

Congress, other than Paul, sucks

Although there are issues where I disagree with Dr. Paul he is the only honest man in Congress. So I had to support him in the presidential primaries. Too bad there's nobody like him I can vote for in my own district.

I am hearing urgency

I think it is time we stop the nonsense and get on with saving our country. We need major plans, we need organization. We cannot do it with violence because history tells us that is what they want. We need to approach the states that are asking for sovereignty and decide what the next step is. We need to push the others to get to this step. The best method to get something done, as far as I can see, is through the states. Hopefully there are enough people in the states that are not corrupt that we can still work with them. We need to move. We are the last country in the world to be taken under control and every day, with every breath our man at the top takes, we go deeper into communism. They think they have alread succeeded. Have they. What are we going to do about it. It is up to us. We are the ones who are awake. Who knows if any conservatives will join us or not, but the liberals are for communism. Some say our country is lost. Is it? It looks like it to me. If so, we might as well disband this site and make the best of whatever life brings our way.

Perhaps we need to elect a major spokesman and get behind him with people and money and get going. Maybe a board of spokesmen.

We need to totally cut the nonsense. Now.

In the immortal words of Spanky

"And how!"

the best speech since "i have a dream"

he gives me hope. so happy to have him on our side. dr. paul, i love you. i really really do.

What if

This is the one of the best speeches for Constitutional Freedoms in the past 200 years.

Thanks Oruval. I like the way you put that.

...and I have used it in a statement below. :)

Speech with music added

I thought this was well done:

http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Well Done!

that goes in the bookmarks.

Yes, It is well done

Thanks for posting.

I would like to have seen the people he was facing.

I heard no reaction whatsoever when he was done.

I am sitting here in awe of the man, yet I have a feeling none of the people he was speaking to were phased in the least.

I was going to say it's a pity, but I think I feel anger more than pity that no one seemed to care.

Also, the part about a draft jumped out at me both times, reading it above and listening to the video.

STANDING OVATION

that deserved a standing ovation. yet not one person even really acknowledged him. i wouldn't care if it was acceptable or not, i'd be clapping and cheering until they threw me out!

peace, love, unity ...

I had the same feeling. As

I had the same feeling. As if they were all yawning and were just waiting for the "kook" to be done with his speech.

Corrupt, self-serving and stuck in their ivory towers. Sad indeed.

When will Dr. Paul gets tired of throwing pearls to the swine? He is a real hero to keep going despite of all of this.

I hate to break it to you guys, but they give those speeches to

an empty house. They are merely being read into the record.

The people behind him could've clapped or blinked or something.

...or had a standing ovation as Brooke Kelley says a few comments above. :)

I didn't figure this was a packed house, judging from other similar videos, but there were SOME people there.

Oruval hit the nail on the head several comments above, that RP's "What if" speech is probably one of the best speeches for Constitutional Freedoms in the past 200 years.

When Ron Paul speaks on the House Floor,

Most of the idiots don't want to strain their minds by listening to him, so they probably leave for a cocktail break. They DON'T WANT TO HEAR THE TRUTH!

Ahh, E. Oregon 4 Ron, glad you're here.

I'd like to borrow your video you posted in your reply to me on the "Is it time?" thread. Hope you don't mind.

http://www.youtube.com/wa...

At about :52 and 3:00...

THIS is what the people facing him should've looked like.

Thanks E. Oregon 4 Ron.

(Oops, I see you had it here, too, right before me. If it was a snake it would've bitten me...lol)

Here is the 'One Man Band' version of Hope Anthem

http://www.youtube.com/wa...
I hope all of the 'newbies' will watch this and catch the R3volution fever.
These words: "Can you feel the coming change---though hell is here today? Hope is on it's way! " send shivers through me.

Oh, cool! Thanks for sharing that one, also.

I'm glad you had the other one handy first, though. Hehe.

Would you listen to a Poet or a Prophet?

Can you feel the coming Change? Hope is on it's way!
http://www.youtube.com:80...
Thanks to Marc Scibillia for The Hope Anthem!
I had a need to listen to this again because of this speech.

I like that E. Oregon 4 Ron.

Very nice.

Hope you don't mind me borrowing it above. Thanks

The Best Speech ever!

This is the best speech I have ever heard Dr Paul give! It really hits home and I think it could wake ALOT of people up.

Such beautifully stated Truth!

Look at what Digg did to this video and then double, no quadruple your efforts to get it circulated please:

We have to squash their efforts to bury this...it makes me sick. Thanks for your help.
www.campaignforliberty.co...

billyjack...

what the hell is this? Digg buried this? WTF?

yes, those creeps

buried it. We got busy getting it the attention, succeeded in getting it to front page "eligibility" and they buried it before it posted front page. A bunch of us complained and this is their response.
I get sooo incredibly frustrated with this similar barrier continuously being thrown at us all over the place....but I keep reminding myself of how long Dr Paul has been putting up with this crap and he is still in there fighting so I won't give up either.
Send this amazing video to every place or person you can think of please....show digg how irrelevant they can be.
www.campaignforliberty.co...

Unbelievable...

Yes, I will forward everywhere...

Do you know what their criteria are for burying?

New media is the same as the old media

No doubt the bury brigade is dominated by pro big government Obamanites, who are infuriated by the thought that pro-peace Americans might prefer the solutions of an old right conservative.

No, I don't know what criteria are used.

Based on what I've seen and heard though, it looks like the basis for burial is too often arbitrary. I've seen a lot of people complain about it in the time I've spent over there and I know that it has happened a lot with anything related to our good doctor. I've seen people post things about him (more so before the election than now though) and leave his name out of the titles to try to avoid the "bury brigade". Cyndezu would probably know the most accurate answer to your question.

God bless him. Still fighting for me, for us. He made me cry.

Still heartbreaking

.
This is probably the best speech Dr. Paul ever gave. But his colleagues are all bought and paid for by corporate, or other, interests. They may know Paul is dead-on right, but nothing will happen.

If we had congressmen with integrity, this speech would have been unnecessary.

What if we voted them all out

545 PEOPLE (minus 1)
By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, theFederal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.

The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party.

She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red .

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

What you do with this article now that you have read it.......... Is up to you.

In your dreams

.
The congress is in. They are staying put. In the next election, Paul-minded types might get a seat or two - that is, if the country is still intact.

What you wrote is correct, but voting them out is impossible. A Military Coup would have a greater chance of success.
.

I dunno...

I'm in N. Cali. and everywhere I go people are talking. They are talking about the Constitution and freedom. Maybe it is bad enough here? A month or two ago, I could talk to people about these things and they'd shun me as a lunatic. I'm a pretty quiet person and not very social, so I found it hard to strike up conversations with people and discouraged when they thought I was a nut. But now, I have people coming up to me talking about the things that are happening, how they are unconstituional, and how it will likely result in an uprising. When I know what they're talking about, they are so thrilled they hug me. So, I'm pretty hopeful, not to mention shocked. I usually refer them to the C4L website.

Reply from an Old Dog

.
Northern California is a bit more enlightened that other parts of the country. But, as you say, people are talking. Whether this will translate into action is anybody's guess. I don't think it will. It's easy to talk about fighting for freedom but then people have jobs, families, responsibilities and don't want to get into trouble with the law, or lose standing within the community.

The majority of Americans still have a wacky, blind faith in the government, and think things will get better under Obama's leadership. They are wrong. It is going to get very bad in the next two years and all the talk and good intentions won't amount to much. But I think it needs to. The system is so rotten and corrupt now that it needs to fail. Then, in 3 or 4 years, we will have the task of rebuilding some kind of country.

blind faith in government.

>>>The majority of Americans still have a wacky, blind faith in the government, and think things will get better under Obama's leadership.

I think people are so dissatisfied right now. Obama can't fix the issue and they are now realizing this. Faith in government is at an all-time low. People are questioning everything these days. If they start questioning government, they start questioning the economy, 9/11, reasons why we are at war, why Obama is becoming Bush III in terms of foreign policy. Over 50% of Americans don't agree with this spending bill being proposed.

My entire family who I would not consider enlightened to the facts of the economy and the real state of our system, are now asking themselves why things are this bad. And they are not blaming Bush for all of it either. The patriot act didn't destroy the economy. 9/11 didn't destroy the economy. But War and deficit spending, as well as the biggest heist in financial history is occuring right before their eyes which decimated consumer confidence. Merryl Lynch execs use 18 billion for bonuses and my parents who have saved their entire life just lost 40% of their retirement last year. Something isn't right.

The times... they are a changin. I do what I can to educate them about the economy and RP's ideals. I think this is all we can do right now. To educate, inform and re-assert what liberty means to the rest of the people around us.

BTW, zenpiper, what part of northern california are you in? I'm in Chico.

Lassen

Lassen county here!

I love that man, because I

I love that man, because I love to hear "truth"

That was a "Presidential" speech

Should go down in history as a gem.

I love how he used his time on the floor to give a speech which he should be giving as the president.

All I can say is....

Brilliant!

My Hero ~ scholar, philosopher, statesman . . .

a living Founding Father.

Ron Paul is my President, the only one deserving of the title.

A moving speech

that makes me thankful for Dr. Paul. Who else is standing up for peace and humanity at this point? It reminds me of Kiplings "If"

[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

--Rudyard Kipling

This poem reminds me of Dr. Paul and his unfailing determination.
He is pleading for the American people to wake up and even more, to GROW UP!

German translation

For those of you who have german relatives, the speech has been translated by one of the german Paulites:

"Pott" has nothing to do with drugs, but is colloquial german for the Ruhr Area (so it is "Ruhr Area for Ron Paul").

http://pott-for-ron-paul....

Nichts.

Aber was passiert, wenn meine Bedenken begründet sind und ignoriert werden?
Nichts Gutes.“
