Ron Paul Takes 3rd Place and 13% in Official CPAC Straw Poll!

A straw poll is, and does no purport to be, a measure of the preference for a candidate among the overall population. This is because straw polls are polls that you must GO TO to answer. A scientific poll on the other hand, comes TO YOU. A straw poll, in effect, merely measures which candidate's supporters are the most eager to travel to go to the straw poll. That's all it measures.

For a poll to be scientific, and therefore a much more accurate reflection of the opinions of the overall population, it can't be restricted to only polling those who travel to straw polls. You have to also poll people that have no interest in seeking polls to answer. You have to go TO THEM with the poll.

This is why though Dr. Paul won most of the straw polls during last election, it didn't translate to winning the most votes in the election. Likewise, the fact that Dr. Paul placed 3rd in this poll is equally meaningless in that respect. All it measures is how many Paul supporters went to CPAC in order answer the poll. Lack of knowledge of this principle is why many Paul supporters were confused as to why Dr. Paul was losing primaries while winning straw polls.

don't believe these stupid polls. But everyone else does and that is the problem. Our country is led around by the nose by these stupid polls.

At this point you would think enough Republicans would know better that to support two more CFR candidates. If Ron Paul can't beat those two losers now, when will the ideals of liberty ever be embraced?

Palin is so polarizing. You put her on any ticket and it's a loser. She comes off as ignorant to moderates and independents(and to me).


Ronulans need to make inroads with the independents and moderates. Ron Paul's message will appeal to independents because it emphasizes state's rights, less government and non warmongering. Social conservatives seem to be one issue voters and abortion and gay marriage are the issues that trump everything else i.e. they are narrow and believe the federal government should be used to deal with these issues instead of leaving them up to the states(sounds a bit like the neo liberals). It seems to me the GOP is more interested in picking someone who they think will win instead of focusing on the message. They don't understand that if the message is right they will come in one their own. Ron Paul's message of liberty already reasonates with libertarians and anarchists. Eventually we will need the anarchists and their bombs when the big push to one world government begins. Did anyone read about the UK's prime minister Gordon Brown's wooing of Obama for a "global New Deal"? The first step is for these commies to concentrate the control of the "wealth" (or the illusion of "wealth")and the power in the hands of the state. From there it will be easier and quicker to transition to a one world government.

What is that about? What is the Republican obsession with that woman? She was a cynical trophy pick by McCain. She doesn't hold a candle to Ron Paul. I agree with the other poster who said if Republicans don't get it by now they never will.

Wouldn't it be better to describe Ron Paul supporters as " Traditional Americans"? There are some libertarian slants,but there are other characteristics that are unique to RPers it seems.

Conservatives as presently represented have some ideals that do not necessarily match those of RP or his followers-you could tell by some of the stupid booing of Ron Paul by a few at cpac.The neocon ideals and some others the conservatives often support are contrary to RP ideals- which are based on constitutional principals,individual liberty,constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy. etc.Maybe there needs to be a Traditional Americans Union and a TAPAC event.

Romney didn't drop out last time because of unity to the party, he dropped out because his supporters were not supporting him financially to the point where he could continue. He and his wife were not willing to bankrupt themselves with his run for president. That's the one thing he does not have, devoted supporters. Nothing like Ron Paul.

Is a good thing. It doesn´t mean that 87% dislike Ron Paul. But Paul appeals to freedom lovers, not only conservative ones

I heard Ron Paul get booed a bit at his introduction and then Romney wins the straw poll. If these people haven't figured it out by now they never will. They can go f**k themselves.

Romney wins, what more could you expect from these sheeple. The minds of these idoits will be changed after the SHTF ( total collaspe) and then it will probably be to late.

Or to Laissez Faire. In fact Conservatism isn't even a political philosophy. It can't be easily explained. Like I favor Freedom. Or I favor Big Government. Or I believe in the Internal Revenue Code. Or I believe we don't own our bodies, etc., etc. And Ron Paul is as much of a conservative or Republican as the bridge I just bought. I understand why he is going under the banner of a Republican conservative. There is nowhere else to go to get elected to Congress. But let's get REAL. "Conservatism" is a FRAUD covering as libertarian.

We had TONS of people there. On EVERY street corner, EVERY hallway, EVERY staircase, signs EVERYWHERE. We had the place literally surrounded. Multiple more signs and supporters there.
We EASILY had the majority vote there, but NOOOO

I do NOT trust a vote that is not counted in public in a transparent way.
It would not surprise me if the CPAC vote was rigged. I STRONGLY believe that it was in Ft. Worth....

is that if you add Jindal's 14% and Paul's 13%, that means 27% of the voters are Ron Paul Republicans, which is more than Romney's 20%.
If Paul doesn't run, which he says he doesn't plan to, I would bet that all the Paulites would most likely vote for Jindal.
I know I'd support Jindal over those other two clowns.
Of course all this is silly talk considering our country might collapse before 2012.
