Well, I think that First Lady Michelle Obama should help everyone to understand how easy it is to eat right with organic foods. One of her goals is to promote healthy eating for American families. With more people seeking organic real food, I just wish that the price for organic food will come down and the price of junk processed food will go up. That would be the perfect fix for helping families eat right and more savings would be passed on in reduced health care needs. Also, keeping your food storage clean and neat is also a way to keep you and your family healthy.

A great concern to many of us right now is the right to EAT PURE NATURAL FOOD . . . in contrast to the genetically engineered, refined, prepared, and processed foods that make up most of the supermarket food items.
Because profit is low on PURE NATURAL WHOLE FOODS, the food industry has turned to value-added (convenience, taste, excitement) processed foods to create a profit-making business.
Now they seem to be very aggressively trying to cement their spot on your dinner plate. HR 875 - creation of a Food Safety Administration to Control Food from Growth to Table appears to be a dangerous restriction of commerce in that it can eliminate local control of food and farming practices. I know this worked for my son. Last year I started researching real food, the organic produce, grass-fed beef, pastured eggs and chicken and healthy oils. My son became interested in the books I read, videos I watched and talking with local farmers. He wanted to know why grass-fed beef was better for us than feedlot beef. He was disgusted by the way animals are mistreated in feedlots and the way our produce is sprayed with chemicals.

My young son is spreading the word about organic food, raising animals for food humanely and why toxins are bad for our health. He tells his friends and other family members what we eat now and why. I'm proud of my 10-year-old son making a difference - Children are the future so we must teach them about real food and make organic real food easily available.

Organic produce the Obamas will grow
Among the 55 varieties of vegetables the Obamas are planning to cultivate are spinach, chard, collards and black kale.

The more exotic plants in the new garden will be arugula, cilantro, tomatilloes, hot peppers and anise hyssop herbs.

Several varieties of lettuces including red romaine, green oak leaf, butterhead, red leaf and galactic will be planted.

This bill is about tracing the distribution of food so that contaminated food can be found & destroyed. This has absolutely nothing to do with home gardening or poor people growing their own food.

It does require standardized labeling for all food sold commercially. Is that horrible?

I read the bill - it has to do with slaughterhouses and meat products. It has nothing to do with growing organic vegetables. Unless you live in a slaughterhouse, this bill doesn't affect your killing your own meat. If you sell that meat at the local farmers' market, then, sure, you're subject to inspection.

The things that are looked for include not using diseased animals or contaminated feed (mad cow disease, anyone?).

This does include foreign food facilities.

While there are lots of laws, this bill consolidates the responsibility into one department.

After more research, I found at "organicconsumers.org" information that refers to this alarming information as an internet myth. Although, they do believe that these bills very well could be damaging to organic farms and that organic farms should be exempt. If you google "democracy in action food safety HR 875", there is a link to CODEX action alert that will take you to a page with a petition asking for organic farms to be exempt or to defeat the current bills.

So I'm not sure whether the bills are sponsored by Monsanto, but at lest the devil isn't quite at the door...yet.

Here in California no one will put up a fuss or a fight. After all we have more illegal aliens than can be counted and or hospitals are closing because they can not afford to give the state mandated free health care to the hoards of illegal Mexicans. Yet we turn a blind eye to the real issue.

I dloaded this bill and looked it over briefly. Can someone point out the organic farming portion of the bill as alleged in the video?

that this will not blow up into a physical war; that this will remain a war of ideas.
I myself am hoping and praying that this doesn't go south. Mind you, I know that is the way the American Revolution started out, but I'm still hoping things can be worked out peaceably.

This is getting scary, though. (An understatement, actually.)
Especially because things like this fall almost under the "too bad to be true" category; I almost didn't believe it myself, until I read the bill. We need to get the word out, and get people writing. Maybe we can stop this before we are forced to treat a pot of tomatoes or a plum tree as if it was a cannabis plant.

If you own a farm or a ranch you will be affected by this. This is Nationalization of the Ag. industry. If you are anywhere in the food transportation, production, or selling of food you will be affected. If you sell food that is not up to their specifications you will be liable to loss of your establishment, jail time, and or fines. Fun huh? There is more.

Don't you dare sell eggs or milk or tomatoes or even hay from your farm without being registered with them and even if you are selling it for animal food, you still must register. Yep, this covers food intended for animals too. They have not determined the entry fee yet or what regulations will be required to "keep america safe" from all those contaminants out there. They may decide it is necessary to chip your chickens, your goats, and your tomatoes, (that's were NAIS comes in) it is very vague what "protecting the food supply" will entail. Farmers will not be able to afford it and voila! farmng is nationalized. Plank number what of the communist manifesto?? They are checking off numbers on that list pretty quickly these days.

Sorry for the sarcasm but I am pretty pissed about this one. It is sposored by 36 or so Democrats so it may end up passing. I will do everything in my power to try to talk some sense into my democratic repesentative but so far it has fallen on deaf ears. I pray this doesn't go through.

If the "restaraunts, etc." direct-to-consumer loophole really does stay open, there may be some hope yet, but man......everybody, save the seeds from your produce, and maybe figure out a way to garden inside or something. I'd love to think that the loophole will stay open for a long time, but with Monsanto and its cronies in the mix, I'll bet you anything that they'll give us 2-5 years to see if we'll just "get used to it" and be lulled into a false sense of security, then try to sneak in the extra regulations.

There are 14 or 15 new 'crimes' defined by this law. With the exception of maybe 5 of them, all are solely related to 'compliance' with the regulations, such as registration, paperwork, etc.

Three of the other 5 are more general and are along the lines of "not breaking other food safety laws."

The first two are specific to this bill and both are only crimes if you are - ready for this? - involved in INTERSTATE commerce!!

HaHa! I knew it. I would also think that it thus follows that the rest of this bill also ONLY applies to INTERSTATE commerce. The fact that Congress doesn't have authority otherwise is telling in that they limited the two strongest provisions to that realm. This, while not proof, would lend strong creedence to the fact that the rest of the bill is deceptively worded so as to make people think they have to comply when they don't.

VERY IMPORTANT - just because the bill doesn't apply to you because you don't transport food over state lines, doesn't mean that it is still safe to 'register' with the Feds as they are trying to trick you into doing. Registering when you don't have to is VOLUNTEERING to be treated as if the whole law DOES apply to you. And they will use this in court against you. You will not be allowed to argue that the law is limited to interstate commerce. By registering, they will use this as presumption BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION, that you ARE engaged in INTERSTATE commerce.

Drill this down to your backyard. Bye bye chicken coop. Looks like 'handling' an egg could become big trouble. Especially if you don't plan to 'consume' the egg personally. Is there a difference between a 'household consumer' and a backyard producer/consumer? This may become worrisome considering that the legislation winds down with the all inclusive "and for other purposes"...

SEC. 20A. NOTIFICATION, NONDISTRIBUTION, AND RECALL OF ADULTERATED OR MISBRANDED EGGS AND EGG PRODUCTS.

`(a) Notification to Secretary of Violation-

`(1) IN GENERAL- A person (other than a household consumer) that has reason to believe that any egg or egg product (referred to in this section as an `article') transported, stored, distributed, or otherwise handled by the person is adulterated or misbranded shall, as soon as practicable, notify the Secretary of the identity and location of the article.

"Has reason to believe"? Well now that's iffy. Can one simply look at an egg and determine if it is adulterated or misbranded? Can one tell if an egg is fresh without possessing and cracking the egg? I simply don't know the answer to that. Any eggsperts here?

Not sure how one can adulterate an egg unless it's Easter. What is this legislation referring to in regards to 'adulterated'? Can someone tell me how eggs are being adulterated presently? Is this in reference to some eggs being 'beefed up' or cholesterol removed? I'm picturing a mad scientist cloning meringue.
