When I was 12 (25 years ago) I did a science experiment for school in which I subjected one group of onion seedlings to sound stimulus, and another without. The sonically stimulated ones grew at least twice as fast.

I wouldn't pay anyone for a speaker that supposedly can stimulate up to 5 acres, though. If I were to (and I might) play around with this idea, it would be a simple thing to test it with stuff laying around the house.

As taxpayer, I'm not exactly thrilled to pay for court/police/investigations when crops mix unexpectedly. I mean seeds flying through the air are not aware of the concept of property, or fences, or borders.

But... I really don't see why companies should be able to patent existing species just because noone else did it before. You know, maybe I'm going to patent "dog", because the rest of the world didn't think of it! I'll be millionair in no time.

What if "human" gets patanted? Should I pay some yearly fee just for existing if some dumb patent office employee lets some company patent our own species?
