I have heard that it costs more to make a penny than the penny is worth. Well when is it worth more in material? What about a nickel? At some point as inflation continues the metal value would be worth more as material. If anyone has details on what the penny and nickel are made out of please share.

That is why it is illegal to now take pennies as well as nickels out of the United States.
The pennies prior to 1982 are the ones you want....COPPER. The newer ones are Zinc.
