Right after birth, a woman is incredibly susceptible to manipulation due to the effects of oxytocin on the brain.

Combine this with government agencies getting federal money for every adoption and how much easier it is to place newborns for adoption - scary stuff.

That is the only way I can see to get around that horrible bill. It ALL starts with the birth certificate. Don't sign it and YOU remain the ward of the child... NOT the state. Legally, they will ave NO jurisdiction. Not 100% sure about that... but it is worth a try.. There will be a percentage of mothers that WILL NOT leave the hospital with THEIR child because of those questions and the time they were answered. Factor this bill in with the SUICIDAL anti-depressent drugs they will talk MANY MANY mothers into taking before they give birth and that number WILL soar... This will send those children into the hands of SO CALLED foster homes that will grow to colonies of their own. This will decimate the family structure that has already been taken some serious blows over the years. Some or many of these children will then be subjected to rape, sodomy, experiments, mind control and so on. That can not be dismissed easily because of the obvious track record of the state and the corrupt child care agencies.

I have read the bill. The problem is this-just how do they "research" such depressions? They would have to do a questionnaire and follow up, etc. Do you really think they will stop there? If the questionnaire reveals-in their opinion-an issue, what will they do? It is not a LEAP to figure they will not allow the baby to go home until such time as "they" decide-if ever-that Mom and/or Dad pass "their test or research". Very slippery slope stuff here.

Couple this with the UN Convention of the Child TREATY, folks-we cannot be too careful of this Mother's Act bill. Treatys (such as this UN one) supercede Fed, state and local gov't. No way around and the UN will tell you how to raise your kids. Can you add 2+2?

this is easily dealt with; don't get married until you're 40 and rich, and then find yourself an 18 year old brazilian virgin, and move there!

someone needs to tell washington that for only 5% of the world, they're not very competitive. it's like if apple decided to charge ten times as much (as opposed to twice as much) for their computers, preloaded them with vista and then demanded you return them every six months with no refund.

It's in committee, not in the House. Also, there is no directions for mandated mental health screening in the hospital in the bill. Read the bill. Yes, it is a stupid bill and a waste of taxpayer's money (what else is new) but so far, it is not as threatening as all this.

Don't post something that isn't truly verified. We have so many things that really are right now. It's good to be aware of this frivolous bill that could lead to other things but it isn't relevant right now.

I am on antidepressants. They do NOT cause "psychosis, delusions, and even homicidal thoughts." Understand the "church" of Scientology puts out this kind of garbage. They also believe human souls were made by aliens. Do you believe them about that too?

Studies show the countries that use antidepressants have fewer suicides than the countries that don't. When first starting antidepressants often energy is increased before judgment and mood improves. During that danger period acts of suicide and violence can increase slightly and Patients should be watched and guided carefully. But even during this danger period fewer People with severe depression commit suicide while on them, then do who are not on them.

I don't feel chemically strait jacketed. I feel peaceful. They help me sleep and keep me from having 24/7 migraines. They let me enjoy life the way God wants us too. They are a Godsend. There are 23 different methods of healing used or advocated by Jesus in the New Testament and yes antidepressants are one of them. You do not want to know how I grew up due to my Mother not receiving the medical care she desperately needed and desired. She didn't deserve to live like she did due to darkness and superstition that should have cleared up decades earlier. Don't spread more trash around. It harms people by keeping them from getting easy, painless, effective help!

I didn't have a Mother until my Father died and wasn't around to "protect" the body in the bed that was all that was my Mother before medication and I could finally get her help. Unfortunately by then I was grown and she was in her 80's. Due to lack of serotonin caused by a strep throat infection she had hoarding OCD, and severe clinical depression all the years of my childhood. She hoarded spoiled and ROTTING food, composting newspapers, old food containers, used Kleenex, rotting paper towels that had been peeing on by the cats. The refrigerator could not be packed with one more piece of rotting food so the garage was also starting to fill up. The house had mold and mildew thousands of cockroaches and even rats. it was not a fit place to live. But on the other hand her OCD made her afraid to even touch me. If I tried to climb on her lap she would push me off. If I tried to get a hug she would shove me away. She would read to me but she would sit in a chair and I had to sit on my bed or in another chair. Once I touched her arm and her skin crawled. She was that repulsed by me due to her brain not functioning properly.

If I tried to clean up she would go in to a temper tantrum/panic attack and I would be in trouble for "upsetting your Mother." I had asthma, sinus problems and sleep apnea plus migraines when sleep deprived. I often had them 24/7. I desperately needed a clean house but when I asked my Mother why she would not clean up she said, "Because I love the trash and the garbage more than I love you." They know now if an allergic donor donates bone marrow the recipient of that bone marrow will develop the exact same allergies once his or her new immune system kicks in. But back then thanks to that Atheist Freud allergies were supposed to be all in one's head. I got threatened with confinement in a mental hospital if I complained about the mess so I didn't dare seek help. My few brushes with the mental health world were disasters due to my Aspergers' syndrome. No one would believe me about anything. Counseling consisted of scolding for not being a Neurotypical and disbelief when I told the couplers I didn't feel good. I've had enough psychobabble to fill the garbage dumpster it all belongs in. Jesus not Freud had it right, "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Jesus will live forever and Freud is dead and burning in the Hell he deserves. The man was an Atheist, a cocaine user, a cocaine pusher, an adulterer who caused his sister in law to go get an abortion, and he was so morally weak he couldn't give up smoking even though it killed him. After he died he was found to have several different kinds of venereal disease. And this is the man whose philosophy we think is better than medication and faith?

All my Mother wanted to do during much of my childhood was sit in the dark, thinking the neighbors were whispering about her and work crossword puzzles.

After my father died and I was able to get her to a geriatric Psychiatrist he put her on a mild dose of an antidepressant called Zolof. A miracle occurred. She woke up and warmed up. Judy and I were able to clean up finally. It took two years and thousands of dollars to get the house back to livable condition. We threw away over 18 huge trash bags of trash, spoiled and rotting food from the kitchen area lone and the garage was also full. Even more important she actually gave me a hug one day, one of only two she ever gave me in my life. She felt up to doing things and going places. It is so sad she could have had help decades sooner because the first antidepressant went on the market the year I was born. She didn't have to suffer the way she did. She could have had a life and I could have had a Mother.

This is a critical battle or we will end up with an entire generation being killed by the careless and irresponsible actions of the psycho/pharmaceutical industry. PLEASE take the time to read the act and LEARN FOR YOURSELF how dangerous and insidious this act is. The ironic part is that it is named after a woman who was killed by psychotropic drugging. Her psycho doctor deserves to be brought up on charges.

After reading Sec. 102 paragragh (a) of the bill, the government is giving the NIMH powers it should not have. No bill, act, or law like this should ever exist! As someone commented before, this opens the door for the Federal government to take custody of children, especially newborns.

This story is going around the email chain as the new biggest threat against mothers. The worst thing in this country is a bunch of people who don't even bother reading the bill and finding out what it is really about. This is not just for this particular issue but for all the chain emails that go around. The first thing anyone should do is research the issue and then make an educated comment. The author of this atricle, Sheila Matthews, uses scare tactics to get what she wants which doesn't help her issue one bit. This doesn't mean I agree with the bill but PLEASE do your research before calling your senator for this and all issues.
