A man working for the census bureau just rang my doorbell. I answered and I asked him what he was doing? He had a hand held phone like thing.
He said he was putting my address in a GPS for the census bureau. I asked him what for? He said, to make it easier for the census people. I asked what other personal info they were going to be putting online and he said he didn't know. I asked him why he rang my doorbell and he said he had to come up to the door for the GPS to work. This government is so scary!!!!

Really people do you think they don't already have your GPS coordinates or can find you from Google Maps?
This is just making the maps more accurate. The cencus IS constitutional.

GPS
These people aren't conducting a census and have no business on anyone's property. Their only purpose it to GPS your front door. They don't need to know where your house is, because the census bureau has no reason to come to your house - they send the survey through the mail. If they wanted to update maps, they could do it through the Post Office. They are not doing this to update maps because this information is supposedly not going to be shared - you all know why they are doing this. They want to have a dot and file for every house in the US so they can precision locate your house and keep information on your home - such as, "The 2 people at this home were vaccinated", "this house was checked for weapons", etc.
The only question that you must answer on the Census if the amount of people at your residence. It isn't even legal for them to ask anything else.
I told the lady that she could GPS my house at the end of the drive-way, she said OK but proceeded to do it right in front of me. "I'm just doing my job" is what she said. I told her it was unconstitutional and she said "I'm just doing my job." Lady didn't care and had no clue what the constitution was nor did she have respect for private property.
Tell them that they can't GPS your home and make sure they are not pushing any buttons or touchscreen and walk them to the edge of your property - tell them not to touch anything on that locator until you reach the end of your property. Don't get into discussions with them - they don't care and will use the time to GPS your house. Just escort them off the property and DON"T LET THEM PUSH ANYTHING.

The Constitution allows for the enumeration
of the poplulace. I had the "long form," delivered to my house once, where it asked about disabled in the household, income, and other personal information. I returned it with only the number in the household. The census person returned while I was away and my husband filled it out under duress.
The original purpose of the census was to determine how many reps you get. How does one's disability status determine the number of reps? or is this how we find where the "useless eaters" live.

I ran them off twice
it was a different person both times, seems to me their mapping theory is a cover for something else. I asked why did they need to know the position of my house when the census comes in the mail and who is going to use this info, both answered with "I don't know"! Keep an eye out and put up no trespassing signs . Both of them gave me a sob story about only doing their job, give me a break! Once they hand that info over it is out of their hands and who really knows if it is not going to the u.n ?

Calm down, folks. I've read so many forum posts threatening census workers, calling them Obama's minions, etc., etc. It's making me a little nervous. I'd like to try to override those internet rumors with some positive stuff before we're all afraid to do our job. Honestly, I am not a shill, not a paid plant. I'm a middle aged mother of 4 who is a census lister. It's a way to serve my country, meet interesting people and make a little money. I'm not going to explain the census; you all know that. I'd like to try to educate to lay to rest fears born of lack of knowledge. The GPS mapping is only to make it easier to find the houses, increase the geographic accuracy of the maps (I've found streets in the wrong place, for example) and keep us from getting lost. The current phase is in preparation for the census; we are adding new addresses, deleting defunct ones, correcting maps and stuff like that. The GPS displays less information about your house than Google maps. No pictures are being taken. We do not ignore no trespassing signs. As always, no identifying information will be released for 72 years. Also, we are all local people, not spies sent down from D.C. We are your neighbors, so please refrain from pointing guns at us, verbally assaulting us or infringing on our rights by posting YouTube videos of us without out permission.

Has it occurred to you that just because Google maps and satellite systems are photographing our properties, and gov't is ammassing data on us that we may not consent to or agree with these activities? Further, when all that data and mapping is combined the risks to security and privacy far outweigh any benefits to individuals.
You might think people on this site make a big deal out of small matters, or out of the inevitable, but remember liberty is often eliminated in tiny incremental steps. At what point does one object before it is all gone?

in my life. Not death, not terrorists, not drug dealers, and not even thieves or murderers. I fear Government. Especially the current US Government. I do not want them at my home.

I worked as a Census lister
I worked as a Census lister too, and my original post quieted the anxiety of this thread for several days after the original post.
First of all, it doesn't matter who's doing it, it's going to be done. Secondly, our gov't probably has detailed maps better than Google Maps. What is there to be afraid of? This happens every ten years.
Every ten years the Census goes around to make sure if a structure is still a residential structure. Lots of structures change, and that's what I found out. Many places turn into duplexes and some houses are torn down and become commercial property. The point of the "Address Listing" is trying to find what structures have changed. This way every house gets a census survey.
If you don't want a Census employee to come to your front door, post "No Trespassing" or "Beware of Vicious Dog with Rabies" signs. Or you could live in an office building.
Let's face it, the gov't could get whatever they want with much easier methods, but we all know they love wasting money. Some of that money went to RP supporters, so what? If you don't like US Census employees then what are you doing here? Michael Nystrom suggested that we all get a job with them because he worked for them ten years ago.

If you wanna be scared, then do that, but you're not always right about your far-fetched ideas. The ability to mark every house has been available for years. The Census Bureau probably waited until now because they were going to send people out anyway, so the employees could kill two birds with one stone.

The US Government already knows where houses are. They have map making programs that are equivalent to Google Maps. If they type in an exact address they can get an exact location from it. They know what streets cut off what blocks.
So what did I do that was so wrong? I placed a dot on a map that might be 10 feet more accurate than their maps. And meanwhile you're $#!++ing bricks.
We need logical level-headed members in this movement. Know your battles. This is a very small concept to fight, we should be more worried about VAT, losing our gun rights, one-world government, etc.

What information that the Census collects will later be used to round up people? The Address Listing campaign was used to check on living structures. Now all houses that have been turned into duplexes are noted in the Census's address list and all new addresses will get a form.
There is no where in the Census questionaire that asks if you're paranoid of our government and holding your finger on the trigger of a gun. So who would it round up? Middle Eastern people? Illegal immigrants? Neither. What about people that didn't respond to the Census? Are they going to get rounded up? Do you see how easy it is to incite fear as if opinions were facts?
Please focus your energy on something PRODUCTIVE, like contacting your representative about HR 1207, 2629 & 2630. Get other people to do the same. We have large important goals and we get nowhere when we begin to worry about other things that are not happening.

Please realize that a census
Please realize that a census is a constitutional and necessary process in the distribution of representatives in a district. Failure to participate allows your voice to become more dilute, as it is drowned out by the presence of other unaccounted voices. That is if your representative even listens to its constituents, which is quite rare.
You Are Confused
An Enumeration is constitutional. An enumeration is an anonymous head-count. That is all that can be done - a head-count. Not GPSing, not what color you are, not how much you make, not anything other than how many people... They are only allowed to conduct the census every ten years and this is not the tenth year. The people coming to your house now are not conducting a census. They are getting coordinates to your house which could be used anytime they would like to satellite/aerial vehicle monitor your house, come to your house for whatever reason (i.e. Katrina gun confiscations, or vaccinations) and be able to make an entry confirmation for each home, or if some other government entity would like to stop by your house quickly without warning. There is no other justification. Maps could be updated through the Post Office - that is how we know they are hiding their intentions. They say to update maps, blah, blah, blah - these are lies.
I see some of you people calling other paranoid - you don't get it. One of you post a legitimate reason which is constitutional and I will rescind my comments.

I think part of what they are doing is updating maps, and it will be tied in to the current FEMA digital map effort. The census, in my opinion, shouldn't be updating maps to front doors.

If the Address Lister was told to get off your property they will leave and estimate where your front door is. If you intentionally broke the Hand Held Computer, you would be going to jail. If a Census employee does not return it at the end of employment, US Marshals will come looking for it. So yes, breaking it would land you in jail for a while.

in order to have the proper number of representatives in congress, and this part is important. Any questions other that the number of people in the household are not important census business.
