Who and what are you going to believe? They're fighting over you, right now and the fight is taking place in your mind. Some people only watch CNN and read the New York Times. Others only watch Fox and read the Murdoch Street Journal. What they see and read is what they believe and talk about. They never learn to think for themselves. Garbage in, garbage out.
This is not news, it is merely a perverse form of tittytainment. This reporter is merely playing to her fan base:

If saying we want liberty and freedom is not being specific and just going after Obama is a big mistake. I now see what they are trying to do. I see this clip as an example of the liberal media (or should I say Democrat media) having a hissy-fit that the people are rising up against taxation. They are doing their damdest to marginalize us.

Marshall McLuhan was right; Alex Jones is often right; Michael Nystrom is usually right. No problem. There are good sites for info, and Daily Paul is excellent: full of smart people, with guts and compassion.
To turn off the TV is, for me, out of the question. I worked for NBC for many years and I know the game. It's not news, it's just entertainment. I laugh at it... usually. The to-do over the Presidential dog was an example of how downright stupid the media has become. This is news for kids, not grownups. And, Oh God, the egos. It's insufferable.
The reporter in the clip (above) was in way over her head. I suspect she was not hired for her brains. OK, that sounds' sexist, but if she had had any brains, she would have let the man talk and not try to debate with him. Debating a protester is not the job of a reporter, no matter what: Just report and shut up.
But sometimes they get it right. The coverage of Captain Sullenberger, when he landed his aircraft in the Hudson made for fine broadcasting. As well, the recent rescue of Captain Williams by the Navy Seals was worth seeing. Sometimes CNBC will have someone smart talk about the economy (OK, rarely). These incidents do not affect me, but I like stories of heroism, and they often get reported.
But mostly I watch movies. HBO, TCM, AMC and TNT are just fine. Where I live, they tend to re-run old classics. TMC had some great early black and white movies by Morris Engel and I was very happy to see them. He was the first real 'Indy' film-maker, in the 1950s, with the use of his hand-held 35mm camera.
I can't stand Bill Maher, but I do like to watch the opening monologue of Leno or Letterman. It's fluff, but I like to laugh a little before I go to sleep.
The Discovery Channel and the History Channel often have good stuff. I don't even mind watching the guys build motorcycles on Orange County Choppers, even though they act like babies sometimes/ But it's fun to see skilled workmen actually doing something. I even like watching the fishermen in the Bering Sea, as they try to out-crab the other boats. I don't watch often, or for long, but I am glad that there's real TV that is not insulting to the viewer.
I understand the frustration of not getting the truth on TV. We haven't had real news for decades: not on TV, not on the radio or (rarely) in print. The internet is our source now, but we have to be vigilant and make sure whatever is reported is confirmed. (That was one reason I didn't put the FEMA video on the front page. I couldn't get confirmation of the facts).
So my suggestion is: don't unplug the set. You could miss some wonderful shows. Use your noggin. Skip the news, watch the other stuff.

You are right to watch something not depressing before bed. Letterman and Leno are funny. And Leno has had some great one-liners about our liberty going away.
I almost never watch TV anymore, except when I am working out at the gym. Then, I make sure and do it in front of a monitor with ESPN. Concerning the news, the lies anger me and the truth depresses me.
