Journalist held indefinitely - now being denied food?!?
Just when you think that the scumbags of this world can't stoop any lower in an effort to hide their actions from the view of the public and the world, they go and prove otherwise.
Now some of you might think I'm talking about Roxana Saberi. I'm not. I'm talking about a man named Sam Dodson. He's been held for over 2 weeks in a NH jail for the amazing high crime of operating a video camera in a public building.
I thought that the freedom of the press wasn't to be interfered with here in the 'land of the free'. I guess not.
I found this article here --> http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?p=2101774#post21... while reading over at the RonPaul forums, and that led me to find this article here --> http://freekeene.com/2009/04/28/news-about-sams-treatment-fr...
All I can say is holy crap! WTF is wrong with our country? Where's the outrage and press covering this story? How can the dictates of one little man override the 'supreme law of the land'?

Sam gave his food away
The officers are not preventing Sam from eating. If Sam said, "Man, I have to eat, please give me my tray." I'm sure they would oblige. But Sam is giving his food away, and that is what the officers are stopping.
I'm sorry the prisoners are upset to not be eating Sam's food, since they respect his hunger strike, but to blame the gaurds because they are not giving Sam food to give to them is not going to get any sane grassroots movement. Too many people are trying to get one meal a day and the food banks are empty.
none, if you are putting out
none, if you are putting out a call for action, let me make a suggestion on how to be a bit more successful: Make it as easy as possible for people to help, make it easier than easy if you want an even higher level of support.
It may take you a few additional hours gathering all the pertinent info, but it will save other people combined maybe thousands or tens of thousands of hours by not having to search out the information themselves.
So, basically what you need is a contact list with names, positions (what they do, how they can be involved), phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses & even postal contact address. Include your local and regional media in the contact list as well. Maybe also include people who might not be able to directly assist, but have great influence.
I mention phone, fax, email & postal because different people prefer different methods. Remember, make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to help in this effort. Besides, receiving phone, fax and emails will be like contacting the various parties from every possible direction.
Next, post a call for action thread. Make your case as clear and concise as possible. Include a link for those who wish to do additional investigation. Then post all the relevant contact info so people can be of help without much effort.
Be clear & concise as possible.
Have your Free State Project friends assist you here and on other sites by posting in the associated threads.
As soon as a media article surfaces which is beneficial to Sam, get it up on digg and have your FSP friends help spread the news quickly.
I suggest someone making a video as well. Sometimes video can bring out the passion in viewers a lot better than written articles. Consider the pastor who was beaten by the border patrol recently, he probably would not have made it into the national media if his story was only written.
Once the grassroots news storm hits, bring the news to some larger media outlets - maybe Alex Jones and similar. He would likely cover this story in a big way before the mainstream media (as he did with the MIAC reports). Give him something really good to work with against those who are doing Sam wrong. If you can cite laws for AJ staff to research which show why Sam should not even be in prison, be sure to point them out. Point out similar cases where people may have gotten off with a slap on the wrist but the judge is putting it to Sam for political or some other purposes.
This could end up being a lot of work, so if you have a group of others who are personally involved, maybe split up all the work to help make it easier.
I can see your effort is gaining some success, but it would be good to see this issue gain even more attention.
one of the most consise and correctly written ideas ever
these are exactly my sentiments...
thanks for posting..
Has he had visitors?
Has anyone tried to bring food? I'm going to Keene tomorrow by the way.
can you stop by and get contact phone #'s so we can flood them
wth calls...
also the local sheriff. He has the authority to release this guy on his own recognizance.. if he wants to
I would certainly like to do SOMETHING
something reasonable, as I will have my 5 yr old and my 72 yr old mother with me. Going to Keene to see my 23 yr old for her birthday.
Here's one number
The number I've been able to find is 603-399-7794
I'm going to keep looking for more info.
here is a short excerpt from the situation as it stands now
received a letter from a fellow inmate of Sam's, who wishes to remain anonymous. This inmate describes how the jailers are refusing to give Sam food! I have not yet verified that this person is who he claims to be (i.e., whether this account is trustworthy), but the company he says he works (worked?) for does exist. I have not yet heard back on whether this person works there and is currently incarcerated. -Mike Barskey]
26 April 09
Dear Mike -
I am an inmate at the Cheshire Country Jail. I am in the same area of the jail as your fellow protester “John Doe,” “Sam D-.” When we are not locked away in our individual cells, Sam & I share a day room with 24 other inmates. During these time of congregation I have had the opportunity to talk with “Sam” of his politics, beliefs and convictions. I agree with some of his ideals and fully support his efforts to “inform the public” and make changes.
I am writing this letter to make known to the outside some occurrances here regarding “Sam.” As you know “Sam” has been on a hunger strike…I believe, he has been on this strike since his arrest. Recently the correction officers here in jail have started a new strategy against Sam. At various times they are refusing to give him food. During the 3 times a day we are fed in jail, we line up and are each individually handed a tray of food by a corrections officer. Sam has been taking his tray, and after everybody is seated to eat, Sam gives his tray of food away to another inmate. Today, April 25 @11:30am, at lunch, when Sam approached to receive his tray of food he was refused. The corrections officer, officer Anderson, refused to give Sam a tray of food and Sam moved on and returned to his cell, without food while the rest of us sat down & ate. I have witnessed this type of incident happen to Sam several times before. Also, it must be said that this does not occur all the time.
It is one thing for an individual to be on a hunger strike, it is another to refuse them food - regardless whether they will eat it or not. I am no expert in the field of international rights, but I would venture to guess that refusing food to prisoners violates some international lw and would warrant extreme scrutiny from human rights watch dog organizations.
To validate my letter I give you my name. I do not wish to jeopardize myself while in jail, so please to not share my identity. I have not been to trial as of yet and do not wish to have undue prejudice against me from the courts.
I support the cause you represent and look forward to reading more of your exploits in the media.

can you post some contact phone #'s for the jail? or the judge?
we need to slam them with calls...and cause them to re-evaluate what they hell they are doing!!!
The sheriff (local) can override this and release him...
He's still in jail
Sam is still in jail, still hasn't talked to his legal help in over a week, and still doesn't have access to the jail's law library.
If you don't like the current system, just remember...
You need to sit the hell down, shut the hell up, and do as you're told, OR ELSE! This is ameriKa, and the government will do what the hell it wants to and you'll like it! Oh yeah, one more thing...give the government your wallet and checkbook too. They'll decide what you get to keep.
Can we get an attorney to go visit him?
would they refuse to let him see legal adviser.
Wow, what a brave
young man. This sounds very serious. I have no clue what to do but I sure hope it works out for him.
Isn't New Hampshire
supposed to be the Freedom state & where RP patriots want to move to?

NH, the Free State
It is one of the freest states in the union, and certainly has the biggest freedom potential, but there are many areas that are just as bad or worse as New York or Illinois. The idea is not to move and enjoy your freedom but to move there to enhance it and work towards a free society.

"The best chance of liberty in your lifetime"
what?
did you just say......"biggest freedom POTENTIAL".....????
wow.
now we're talking about one state over another having certain attributes that "could" make it possibly free.....
holy shit dogs.
this just keeps getting worse and worse.
You know what's odd? Or
You know what's odd? Or maybe interesting? The first judge I thought of when I read about this craziness is the judge that freaked out on some guy last year because he didn't sit down fast enough. That video has been on YouTube for a while.
Turns out, a few comments down confirms that it is this very same judge.
Want to know something not so shocking?
It would seem that that judge was complained about to the state judicial review board about that childish outburst caught on video. Guess what? The review board found that the judge had done nothing wrong.
I found this article http://freekeene.com/2009/02/19/committee-burke-broke-no-rules/ that talks about the complaint and it's resolution.
Here's the complaint --> http://i40.tinypic.com/2hhoydy.jpg
And here's the review boards lengthy, well thought out response --> http://i39.tinypic.com/2n8vvpg.jpg
Just remember, you can use the system to change the system, right? What B.S.
If Sam has been refusing food for
2 WEEKS, he is in big big trouble. I looked at the FreeKeene site and couldn't see any clear action under way to help. This seems to need very fast action so his health is not permanently impaired.
Anyone local, where are addresses to send protests? Can we send care packages to Sam in jail, perhaps he'd accept food offerings from his supporters.
How about a contact bomb
to the state attorney general, filling complaints on that county and jail?
Bump

Manuel Lora posted the above about Sam Dodson. Looks like Freedom Watch material to me.
Is this the same judge???

Because he should be fired.
This too is horrible!

Yes, that's the video of the judge involved.
Yeah, that's the judge.
That really makes my head want to explode!
They'd have more than words for him in the day of the Founding Fathers.....

Terrible!
However, this may be a prelude to the removal of a sitting judge, and some of his henchmen.
They won't be able to defend these actions, it it may very well backfire in their faces and get them removed.
Let's hope so!
And let's see if we can shine some light on these scumbags, to help make their removal happen.
That is horrible.
Did his cellmates share their food with him?
Doesn't he have a lawyer??

The state has denied him access to his legal representative
The more I dig into the story, the more Orwellian it becomes. Apparently, he hasn't been allowed to see his legal representative for more than a week now. I have no idea WTF the state is thinking, because it appears that in NH there's no law that requires someone to give their name to the 'authorities' in order to be processed, booked, or even tried.
This apparently stems from a certain judge, Ed Burke, loosing it on camera in the courtroom when a guy named Ian didn't sit down fast enough for his liking...like a well trained dog. The incident made it way onto youtube and the embarassed judge decided that no more cameras would be allowed. I guess he feels in his little fifedom he can suspend the laws of the land, and by the results so far, he's right. This guy Sam was at the courthouse to record a hearing for a different guy, Dave Ridley, who was also arrested for video recording at the very same courthouse after the original incident had happened.
So, from the news that I've been able to find (2 articles on the Keene Sentinel's website) and read from the eyewitnesses on different blogs, this guy Sam's been mistreated in an increasing number of ways.
He's been denied access to the jail law library, denied access to his legal assistance, and now he's being denied food. And yet, no major news story has been broken, no calls to the governor have been made my anyone to relieve this injustice. Want to know why?
He's a libertarian and a Free State member.
Welcome to the new USSA where the political opposition is to be jailed indefintely. Isn't this what the German Nazi's did to silence the opposition?
pretty damn shitty

None of you care about freedom of the press?
A man has been sitting in jail for over 2 weeks for standing up for his right, allegedly protected by some magical words incanted over 200 years ago by people long since deceased, magical words most of you here argue about day in and day out, magic words that you claim are the end all be all of modern society, and when there's a clear cut violation of this man's right by a government entity right here, right now, in the USSA none of you care enough to even look at the story?
Do you want to know why the constitution is nothing more than a G-damned piece of paper? Do you wonder why the goverment uses it as toilet paper and mocks you every day through their actions, from the TSA bullsh!t to the roving 'border security' checkpoints?
Because when it happens right under your own nose, you don't even care enough about it to comment on it, let alone stand against it.
Our founding fathers would have kicked your collective a$$es.
