a tiny, vocal, humorless group of tyrannical busybodies used the code and zoning regulations as a cat's paw against another group who had a different ideology. At a city council meeting a spokesman for the tiny busybody group said right out loud that their intent is to use (twist) the law against this particular "other group", and no other people (in other words, everyone else could do the things the "other group" was supposed to not be allowed to do). The "other group" was being singled out for their beliefs, and the tiny busybody group's stated intentions were to run the "other group" out of town.

This went on for several years. The busybody group combed the city code for anything they possibly twist to use against the neighbors they hated. Many of the busybodies' accusations were the result of pure delusion and insanity. A libelous smear campaign against the "other people" happened on the internet and with fliers circulated locally. The busybodies paid to have busloads of people brought in from a city 300 miles away to make a protest parade through town. A lot of vandalism was perpetrated against the "other group's" houses and businesses and cars. A lot of time and money were spent by the "other group" to defend themselves against the spurious accusations, and by the city council, who was being used, like I said, as a cat's paw. The busybodies even filed criminal charges against one person from the "other group", which involved the police, who had to call in an out of town detective. No one from the "other group" was found guilty of any crimes in the slightest. In the end, after all the ruckus, nothing changed. Everyone is still here and going about their lives, doing their thing.

Of course, the mean people did all this only FOR THE LOVE OF THE CODE! Of course, don't you know!

I don't know what the details are of the situation that this thread is talking about, but my point is that strange, convoluted situations do occur that you might not believe could or every would happen.

P.S. The "other group" were two Christian churches, and the humorless busybodies were the extreme sort of stark, raving mad Democrats.

prompted this action. Local officials don't usually act until there has been a complaint and it may well be that one or more neighbors got sick and tired of the parking congestion and noise of the regular weekly gatherings.

We've all seen (and a few of us have even HELD) parties at private homes that lined the street out front with cars and poured a "joyous noise unto the Lord" out into the neighborhood while drinking sacramental beer but it wasn't every damned (OK, darned) week. What if the neighbors had a legitimate gripe that went unheeded by the Bible study household and finally turned to local officials for relief?

What we don't know about this case should make us wary of taking sides just yet.

This is unreal. What business is it of anyone else what these people decide to do with their friends in their own home.

Well actually he was one of the top weapons experts in Canada. Police knocking at his door would be saying "sir".

He has since left to devote himself full time to a rescue operation for exploited children.

To me this is no different than Ron Paul meetups, or any other gathering of people who share a desire for each others company in someone's home.

If this stands, it is yet another foot in the door. Perhaps the next time they will enter the home and arrest people for unlawful assembly. Perhaps if they don't like the content of the discussion, its off to indefinite detention.

She should not have answered any of their questions in the first place.

You don't have to say you are invoking the 5th amendment to do so.

It's inflammatory nonsense designed and inspired to anger Christians. It reads like a well crafted tale which knows just which buttons to press. A phantom menace created to enliven and inflame the reader.

Until this is corroborated by another, more credible source (It won't be), I suggest you take it for what it is....nonsense from a well known BS site.

This has nothing to do with the fact that they are studying the Bible. It is a zoning/building code issue. They could be studying Aesop's fables and the result would be the same. Not saying it is right. But it has nothing to do with persecuting Christians.

In the City where I live, zoning/building code violations are common but unless the neighbors complain, the City only enforces violations that are an immediate threat to public health and safety. I can't say what the situation is in San DIego, but if you make friends with the neighbors and are considerate (don't block driveways, make noise or snag all the parking etc.) you will never hear from the City.

I think breathing tax is next......don't pay your breathing tax and you have your mouth taped shut and one nostril plugged for a specified period of time...and if that doesn't learn you...the next time its a lung!!!!

This was many years ago, while I was a Fire Inspector I had to shut down a Haunted House. I was still in the dark and feeding off the Government Lies.....

This incident was a single family home in a neighborhood that had long been the place to go to Trick or Treat. All the homes (like 300) went all out for halloween, this was the place to be. Well one home opened their house as a haunted house and to support a local charity ( a young boy who had brain cancer - I don't remember all the details, but there was a donation jar in every 7-11 on every corner at the time) they decided to charge a small fee as a donation to this young boy. I had to go and shut them down for all kinds of fire code violations, then when they decided to not charge, but make it completely voluntary donations, it still wasn't legal. Then they said they would do it for free and charge no fee, not ask for donations, it was still illegal.

The premesis was when you invite the public into your facility (home) you are obligated to ensure their safety with regards to the occupancy classification at that time. Meaning a home is considered residential and is granted many exceptions with regard to exits etc... but when you invite people who are not your immediate family you could be considered a Business if it's less than 50 people, but if over 50 people it's an Assembly and has to be sprinkled.

Ooooh! It was a horrible job at times. So glad I am out of it.

I find this hard to believe. How many people were they hosting? 6 or 600? This might be where the permit comes into play. If it is only a small few this is outrageous. I guess nothing should surprise me nowadays.

the only churches in the soviet union or China were these types of churches.. People had to worship in secrecy.. now it looks like the idiots in government want them stopped here.. as what I can see, there is no way shape or form they can stop this from happening at a private home..
