Homeland Security To Fingerprint *US Citizens* *Exiting* US
Submitted by paulbu on Fri, 05/29/2009 - 00:00
From /. : "The US Department of Homeland Security is set to kickstart a controversial new pilot to scan the fingerprints of travellers departing the United States. From June, US Customs and Border Patrol will take a fingerprint scan of travellers exiting the United States from Detroit, while the US Transport Security Administration will take fingerprint scans of international travellers exiting the United States from Atlanta. The controversial plan to scan outgoing passengers — including US citizens — was allegedly hatched under the Bush Administration. An official has said it will be used in part to crack down on the US population of illegal immigrants."
All I can add is "WTF?!" And I still remember how I was getting an "exit visa" to leave Soviet Union... Anyone here bets it is not coming here soon as well?

yup had to deal with that TODAY.
but it could be because I'm going to the UK, which is an atrocious police state. I couldn't, of course, require the DHS to not take a peek at my information before handing it over to the Home Office. Fuck that shit. We should be allowed to issue a directive to delete any gov't records on us if we have not committed crimes in that jurisdiction.
That doesn't make sense.
That doesn't make sense. How is fingerprinting law abiding U.S. citizens supposed to cut down on illegal immigration?
it will make it easier for the government
when it becomes illegal emigration.
A free market will never exist as long as there is monopoly control over the money supply.

Just get a tan
Learn spanish and walk into mexico.
Funny that you mentioned that...
After our last trip to Costa Rica my wife is putting some pressure on me to buy Spanish Rosetta Stone... ;-)
After all, a language which is spoken in probably the largest number of countries in the world. At least, our native Russian, acquired English and some foggy remnants of German do not come anywhere near the utility of Spanish around the globe.
Mandarin would probably be another good one, but, despite the tremendous utility of it to awake and put your _other_ brain cells to good use, is not learning it a bit like putting all of your eggs in the same basket? Especially if you know Russian anyway... ;)

Yes, and we will all need to
Yes, and we will all need to speak the language of our overlords after La Raza reaches its goal!

And, by the way, they do take foreigner's fingerprints...
... at the border. Only not (so far) of US citizens, but if you are coming from anywhere else, well, Welcome to The Machine... US permanent residents, who, actually, gave their fingerprints to get their Green Card are not exempt (yes, I know), and many Europeans are just skipping a leg of flight through US because of this, opting for an alternative route because of this reason.

I know, I know...
I linked to the original /. thread instead of just the article to let all see all the sardonic comments people made there...
Can anyone corroborate this? Australian IT mag is not necessarily the most reliable source of info when we are talking about policy shifts *that* crazy!

There, there. Drink your flouride. Everything's fine.
Don't over-think it. Airplanes, immigrants, puppys, roller skate keys.
All better now.
