Two New Bills Introduced By Dr. Paul - "Coercion is Not Health Care Act" and "Protect Patients' and Physicians' Privacy Act"

From Campaign for Liberty

As referenced in his latest article, Dr. Paul has introduced two new pieces of legislation that bring a freedom approach to healthcare.

HR 2629, the "Coercion is Not Health Care Act", prevents the federal government from forcing any American to purchase health insurance or conditioning participation in any federal program on the purchase of health insurance.

Here's a few lines from Dr. Paul's speech introducing HR 2629:

While often marketed as a "moderate" compromise between nationalized health care and a free market solution, forcing every American to purchase a government-approved health insurance plan is a back door approach to creating a government-controlled health care system.

If Congress requires individuals to purchase insurance, Congress must define what insurance policies satisfy the government mandate. Thus, Congress will decide what is and is not covered in the mandatory insurance policy. Does anyone seriously doubt that what conditions and treatments are covered will be determined by who has the most effective lobby. Or that Congress will be incapable of writing a mandatory insurance policy that will fit the unique needs of every individual in the United States?

The experience of States that allow their legislatures to mandate what benefits health insurance plans must cover has shown that politicizing health insurance inevitably makes health insurance more expensive. As the cost of government-mandated health insurance rises, Congress will likely create yet another fiscally unsustainable entitlement program to help cover the cost of insurance.

HR 2630, the "Protect Patients' and Physicians' Privacy Act", allows patients and physicians to opt out of any federally mandated, created, or funded electronic medical records system, repeals sections of federal law establishing a "unique health identifier," and requires patient consent before any electronic medical records can be released to a 3rd party.

As Dr. Paul said while introducing this bill:

One of the major flaws with the federally mandated electronic record system is that it does not provide adequate privacy protection. Electronic medical records that are part of the federal system will only receive the protection granted by the Federal "medical privacy rule." This misnamed rule actually protects the ability of government officials and state-favored special interests to view private medical records without patient consent.

Even if the law did not authorize violations of medical privacy, patients would still have good reason to be concerned about the government's ability to protect their medical records. After all, we are all familiar with cases where third parties obtained access to electronic veteran, tax, and other records because of errors made by federal bureaucrats.

My colleagues should also consider the abuse of IRS records by administrations of both parties and ask themselves what would happen if unscrupulous politicians gain the power to access their political enemies' electronic medical records.

Excellent as usual!

Excellent as usual!

Dr. Paul, true to his profession to serve, both the electorate as well as that particular corpus of the electorate who suffer physically, has again showed his sound understanding to the freedom message. In this bill he upholds again the principles of liberty, and sound interpretation of the fundamental truths and prohibitions under which he and all his colleagues in the House labor.

This bill aims true, in the direction least violative of the Constitution, as it should be. This is a very key element in rededicating Congress to it's collective oath.

Though it may seem narrow in focus, it is nonetheless broad in concept and needs support as much as anything he has sponsored to date! It strikes at the core of the socialistic pressure, which aims in destroying freedom, including health care, a liberty fundamental to a free people. Many a nation has and presently suffers under oppression of health care freedom, both financially as well as physically, sadly the latter of even greater proportion than the former.

Keep in mind that mistakes in the health care system now constitute the number one cause of death in the USA, exceeding even cardiovascular and cancer origins, and under the promised agenda of more repression, will only grow far worse! Freedom has always resulted in a healthier people and a shrinking state, whereas slavery has resulted in a sicker people and a bloating state!

In an era of decreased cost in all the technology industries we see criminally contrasted with that, death from medicine and hospital mistakes exceeding three(3) 747's full, 400 passengers each, crashing everyday, 365 days per year.... I think that should have made the headlines already... exactly... ENOUGH ALREADY!

Talking

Thats what I am talking about!

Go Ron!

My path to health

Like all liberty plans,
it involves you individually,
be a great human.

Here goes:

Free drugs is deceptive madness.
Holistic health is true wealthiness.
No one else can earn it for you.
To gain it, find the whole truth.

To set your illness at ease,
Shift focus from your sole disease.
Seek foremost to uphold your dharma,
Shunning it will bring bad karma.

Upholding your holy honor,
Holistically heals the whole.
Do not yield to falsehood,
With the truth, be resolute and bold.

To alleviate your disease,
Metaphorically get on your knees.
Say prayers for realignment
To divine nature's true assignments.

Troubles are then alleviated,
As mind, then body, are recreated.

You need a more practical guide you say?
Exercise heartfelt creativity everyday.
Eat hearty foods, not those that cause delirium.
Excessive worry leads to the sanitarium.
Sleep well, awake w/ the light.
Do some deep meditation each night.

Move your body, jive and dance.
Pursue a passionate romance.
By sattvic music, be entranced.
Direct your thoughts with higher plans.

Take your whole life - (experiences, thoughts, feelings, logic and ALL)
and perform an integration
Use intuition to solve the equation.

I'm glad you posted this. I emailed my reps about H.R 2630 using DownsizeDC "s campaign's just this morning.

Awesome.

We need an easy way to support all of the bills Dr. Paul introduces!

Does DownsizeDC accomplish this?

I apologize. I just "came down" from being frustrated and I did not realize how tacky that sounded toward you. Thank you for posting and being concerned about this.

This is how I feel about the bills:

Are we going to "HR1207" our reps on this or what?

I think a commitment is in order to see this through for Dr. Paul and ourselves.

While Dr. Paul has spent a large part of his life delving into economics and we really ran with HR1207, he's also dedicated his life to medicine in the most precious way so IMO, we owe him this one big time.

Another round like HR1207 is in order for this.

I also wish Michael was "here". I am just now realizing all he really does do. He will take this and do something with it. Thank you Michael for all you do. I did not miss the water til the well ran dry.

It's spring and everyone is a little giddy I do believe, we have to get back down to business people. I know the spring kool-aid is enticing but these health care issues are chief among our problems and potential problems.

Dr. Paul also has some other bills concerning health care (maybe more I've not found), the Comprehensive Health Care Reform Act of 2009 HR 1495 IH & Seniors' Health Care Freedom Act of 2009 HR 164 IH ....should these be included? Should we push a "grand slam" of bills?

This is more important than you know, apparently

Are you all back on the flouride?
This is your BODY they are claiming rights to, and all of your PERSONAL health information.

Yes this needs some HR1207ing

I'm very frustrated. The video concerning this is posted on the front page and only has 16 comments. I had gathered his remarks two days ago, found a really appropriate cartoon to go along etc etc and was going to addendum the post that we need to "HR1207" these bills but I still have the long post sitting on my notebook....I mean, why bother, is anyone listening to me anyway? I post items that someone else will come along with 4 days later and exclaim a "Newsflash". I'm tiring of this. My stuff falls off into the abyss. You know, I'm 42, I don't need "attention" but it would be nice to be acknowledged particularly when I'm living in a state that has very little RP support and I thought this was my support base.

I simply cannot count the number of posts I've never posted. Maybe I just feel extra bad because I'm not feeling well but I've about had it. It's pretty bad when you feel you're "too weird" for the DP crowd.

I'm not threatening to take my toys and go home, it just hurts.

Peace!

I still come check the headlines, but have largely given up posting or replying to posts. There is not much "movement" left in the movement, and I have a garden and chickens to tend.
I do not think either of is is "too weird" but this is a collective of individualists... we may show each other cool videos, but no one seems to be coming to any agreements.
Send me your posts, I will read them and reply. I am through talking to trolls and preaching to the choir. The choir could use a few new tunes, but many are stuck on the "Ron Paul is everything" hymn, and have no ears for what I say.
I decided to try to start a couple threads (it has been too rainy to get into my garden much) and very few folks even watch. Even the "truthseekers" here tend to have fallen into the "agreement seeker" game and only read threads that have a title they approve of. Sad.
I appreciated your post, and your vigilance on health issues. The big clinic I used to manage is drooling over all the government money they will get under socialized healthcare. In Idaho. How sad is that?

Hey paul4won

I never thought I'd see the DP crowd fall into a lull. Perhaps we're all just burnt out.

I suppose I take the health care issues personally since I was put through the ringer by my neurologist so badly that I no longer trust most doctors.

"They've" had access to our medical records for years. Perhaps this sounds paranoid but I've seen too many people blackballed over health issues, particularly when trying to find work. Now that "they've laid claim" and announced the intrusion, I shudder to think what will come of it.

I do not believe that there is no "movement"...

left in the movement. That's akin to saying that the catepillar has given up and entered the coccoon. Looking at fractal geometry, one can see growth both inward and outwards. I will put it this way, "If you have not made yourself into an asset, then you are a liability." Sovereignty requires individuals who are self-prepared first and foremost. I think that this movement has moved into high gear in terms of individuals taking care of themselves first. That way, they can then properly move to help others. Have you ever considered you are told on an airplane that if the face masks drop to secure your own before you help others secure theirs? That is the essence of preparedness, the proper flow of Liberty. Bright lights and flashing signs are indicative of nothing. Truth, rightenous and love are the tools for accomplishing anything of value. I believe that people are setting their own houses in order because the upcomming fight will keep us busy for a very long time.

We need to build political strength and political will.

I suppose you're right

It is entirely possible to keep rehashing old news, discussing tabloid issues and improving our love lives while we prepare for armageddon. But is it beneficial or just "busy work" when there are bigger fish to fry? I have no problem with blowing off a lil steam, I'm often very snarky and silly but when serious issues come to light, they need to be addressed and not lost to our libido or beating dead horses like the moon landing.
